ASTM A131 Standard Specification for Structural Steel for Ships This specification covers structural steel plates,

shapes, bars, and rivets intended primarily for use in ship construction. Material under this specification is available in the following categories: Ordinary Strength-Grades , !, ", #S, and $ with a specified minimum yield point of %& 'si ()%* M+a,, and -igher Strength-Grades -, "-, $-, and .- with specified minimum yield points of either &/ 'si (%0* M+a,, *0 'si (%*1 M+a,, or *2 'si (%31 M+a,. Shapes and bars are normally available as Grades , -%), or -%/. Other grades may be furnished by agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. 4hen the steel is to be welded, it is presupposed that a welding procedure suitable for the grade of steel and intended use or service will be utili5ed. See ppendi6 7% of Specification /0 /M for information on weldability. The values stated in either inch-pound units or S8 units are to be regarded separately as the standard. 4ithin the te6t, the S8 units are shown in brac'ets. The values stated in each system are not e6act e9uivalents: therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. #ombining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with this specification. Terminology "efinitions of Terms Specific to This Standard: #ontrol rolling, n-a steel treatment that consists of final rolling within the range used for normali5ing heat treatments so that the austenite completely recrystalli5es. Thermo-mechanical controlled processing, n-a steel treatment that consists of strict control of the steel temperature and the rolling reduction. high proportion of the rolling reduction is to be carried out close to or below the rc transformation temperature and may involve rolling towards the lower end of the temperature range of the intercritical duple6 phase region thus permitting little if any recrystalli5ation of the austenite. The process may involve accelerated cooling on completion of rolling. =isit our site to download http:;;;>8?Os!
