IN MEMORIUM
Lectionary Readings
Easter Sunday Color: White. Acts 10:34-43 (Peter proclaims to Cornelius and his household: We are witnesses that Jesus Christ is raised and ascended, Lord of all, and appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead.) Psalm 118:(1-2), 14-24 (Use Tone 1 in B-flat major.) Colossians 3:1-4 ("You have been raised with Christ and your life is hidden with Christ in God.") John 20:1-18 (Peter and the beloved disciple verify Mary Magdalene's story that the tomb of Jesus is empty. Mary Magdalene, weeping by the tomb, hears angels tell her Jesus is raised from the dead, but does not believe it. Jesus calls her by name and sends her to announce his coming ascension to the other disciples.) OR Matthew 28:1-10 (An earthquake accompanies the arrival of an angel who rolls away the stone covering the tomb and announces to Mary Magdalene and another Mary that Jesus is raised from the dead and going to Galilee to meet his disciples there. On their way to tell the disciples, Jesus greets them and tells them to tell the disciples to meet him in Galilee.)
Easter Lilies
he Easter Lily is a symbol for the resurrection. Since the lily comes from a bulb that is buried in the ground, it represents life after death. When the flower bursts open, it reminds us of opening Christs tomb to find it empty on Easter morning. It also resembles a trumpet that proclaims the Good News of Easter. The beautiful Easter Lilies on the stage this morning were placed in honor or memory of someone: In Memory of Loved Ones Raymond & Mary Lou Bay In Memory of Alyce & Hank Binney Rich Binney In Memory of Wilbur & Fern Strom In Memory of Brett McQuarrie Bill & Kelly Brown In Memory of Bill & Betty Brown In Memory of Joyce Burrow Rev. Welcome to Worship
elcome to New Hope Church, now into our third century serving God! If you are visiting, you will discover a loving, spirit-filled church family. Here is some helpful information as you join us in worship today: All who worship here are equals in the sight of God, regardless of race, age, gender, physical disability or religious affiliation. Communion, when celebrated, is open to all who profess Christ as Lord and Savior, whether affiliated with this church or not. Children may partake of Communion as well, if parents approve. A nursery is available during the service; please see a greeter for directions. (This is for infants and children up to 3 years of age.) Handicap-accessible restrooms are located off the narthex (main foyer) and adjacent to the entrance lobby in the Fellowship Hall/Gym. Please complete the tear-off attendance slip attached to the bulletin and drop it in the offering plate so we will have a record of your visit with us today. Thank you for remembering to silence your cell phone during the service. We ask that there be no food or beverages in the sanctuary, please. If you arrived as a visitor we hope that you leave as a friend and worship with us often! New Hope Church exists to: Glorify God in worship and rejoice in our life together; Share the Good News of the Gospel in word and deed; Reach as many as we can with the saving love of Jesus; Help each person grow toward Christian maturity, and find their place of service in the church and in the world.
Bicycles for Pine Ridge Indian Reservation: We are collecting bikes and trikes for the Masters Hands Outreach Ministries on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in Oglala, SD. Bob Martin is heading up a mission action. Fiddlers Grove Cowboy Church is Collecting BICYCLES IN ANY CONDITION. If you have a bike or trike to donate please call, 615-585-5890 and we will be happy to pick up your donation. Deadline - May 25. Church Camps are fast approaching - We are dedicated to every child in our church, those ready for the 4th grade and older, having the privilege of going to camp this June. We serve a lot more children than we have ever served before. We have traditionally paid one half of the camp fee for every child. That will be more costly within itself this year because of the increased numbers. We also know that some of our children will not even be able to pay half their fee. We are setting a $20 minimum for each child attending camp, just to make sure that each child and their family has some investment in the program. So it may be that some of you who dont have children camp age will adopt a child and help them. See Pastor Brad if you would like to help a child get to camp this year. Stephen Ministry - Got a burden? You dont have to carry that burden alone. You can have a STEPHEN MINISTER who will spend time with you, listen to you, and walk beside you. If you or someone you know is interested in receiving care through the Stephen Ministry program at New Hope, please contact the pastor through the Church office at (615) 449-7020 and request that a Stephen minister contact you.
Romans 8:8-17 New International Version (NIV) Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[a] because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[b] his Spirit who lives in you. 12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligationbut it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. 14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[c] And by him we cry, Abba,[d] Father. 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are Gods children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirsheirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
