PEACE CORPS - JORDAN Pre-Service Training (PST) Homestay Coordinator/ Driver Position Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION The PST homestay coordinator/driver is responsible for identifying communities and host families where Peace Corps trainees will live during their pre- service training. The homestay coordinator/driver serves as a liaison for all host families and maintains regular communication with them. Also, acts as community entry training facilitator, translator and mentor for trainees. Contract dates: July 1- December 31 2014. Major Job Duties Interviews potential host families and documents family profiles (ages, gender, make-up, facilities in the home, etc.). This includes preliminary judgment on the safety and security of potential host family homes. Ensures that host family homes fall under the established criteria for acceptable placements such as proximity to transport, training center, health care facilities, etc. Manages day to day issues regarding Homestay families including payment, and, with PST staff, manages issues that may arise between trainees their families. Assists Training Manager in assessing the needs of the Trainees and host families. Provides training guidance and direction to PST staff involved with homestays Encourage host family participation in developing self-reliance of future PCVs by sharing their skills and knowledge of life in Jordan and encouraging PCVs to live independently. Organize and facilitate host family meetings prior to new trainees arrival. Monitor and evaluate trainees home stay safety program in coordination with Safety and Security Coordinator. Explore and promote opportunities for practical learning, application of skills and interaction between Trainees and host family members.

Work Experience Requirements and Qualifications Required Qualifications: Fluent in Arabic and good in English. Experience living and/or working in rural communities in Jordan. Knowledge of and respect for local (non-Amman) Jordanian cultures, religions, and traditions. Knowledge of structure and operations of local communities. Organizational skills, problem-solving, communication and facilitation skills. Ability to work as a team member in a cross cultural environment. Ability to use computers, including the Microsoft suite of software, and the ability to learn new programs Ability to act with diplomacy and tact with staff, Volunteers, community members, and government officials Desired Qualifications: University or college degree in any subject. Experience with international volunteer organizations, other development or cross-cultural organizations. Experience in working in social field, and with people in small villages. Knowledge of Peace Corps philosophy, goals, and policies
