PART 1 QUESTIONS 1. What is a CAFO and how is it different from traditional farming?

CAFO-Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation they are different from traditional farming because CAFOs are "Farm Factories" are facilities that raise large numbers of farm animals ., area for the majority or entirety of the animals life

2. What types of CAFOs are in Farmville? How many animals are housed in each CAFO?
There are Four CAFOs located in Farmville I none of each corner of the country and have 80000 laying hens between 5,000-8500 pigs over 75000 swines 3. Based upon what you currently know about CAFOs, what can you infer are some of the issues for each side of the CAFO controversy? What are some of the viewpoints that proponents and opponents may state for and against CAFOs? The amount of space animals have for each other are probably an issue and the amount of food they have to feed each animal also feels like it would be an issue sanitation as well. PART 2 QUESTIONS

I learned that CAFO is another way of farming animals and are located 4 in each corner of the country.

2. What are or might be some of the negative concerns with CAFOs?


Negative concerns could be potential economic gains come at too great a cost when put beside the increase in environmental contamination and also a dramatic effect on animals habitat. 3. You can tell that all the reference material are biased because it has national institutes and also acts.

1. What concerns and medical conditions have you heard the residents express? Asthma is a concern of medical conditions, Also stomach ailments, including upset stomachs, nausea, and diarrhea."

2. What do they believe is the source of their illnesses?


I think all the animals and waste that is in the CAFO is the source of their illness.

3. Should you consider their experiences with the CAFO for your vote?

I think we should consider their experience with the CAFO for a source to vote because we can see if at the end there positive or negative things are happening because of it. 4. using the facts you have learned from your independent research and the concerns you have heard from the residents, what is your current position concerning the proposed CAFO expansion? I go against the CAFO and based on the things Ive read there is negative effects that affect human health and I think the most important thing is humans and their health so I am fully against the CAFO because of every negative effect that it caused.

PART 4 QUESTIONS 1. What are some of the types of microorganisms identified in Hatties water samples?
Bacteria, E. coli, and pathogens such as Cryptosporidium or Giardia.

2. What are the levels of E. coli in water that the EPA consider safe for recreational use? What are the levels for drinking water?
133 E. coli colonies/100 ml for recreational use and our state recommends no physical contact with water having over 1,000 colonies. Drinking water cannot have any E. coli bacteria present in the water or it can be harmful

3. What are some of the bacteria levels detected in Hatties samples?


E. coli levels that have gone beyond the EPA recommendation for safe recreational use.

4. What is the proposed plan the farmers are considering to help their cause against the CAFO expansion? Their proposed plan is to create a meeting talking about all the negative and positive things CAFO brings and try to persuade opposite of the people that are against the cafo
5. If you were one of the farmers, would you participate in the board meeting and/or help collect samples? If I were a farmer I would participate in the meeting because it can benefit if the smaples come to be bad.
