Pathfinder
Literature: Pathfinder Literature Classes worked very hard this Spring to prepare for the CRCT. We are extremely proud of the accomplishments they have made. We are also so proud of the many students who not only met but EXCEEDED their Lexile Goal for this year! As we approach the end of the school year, we will be finishing up our Titanic unit and refining skills that students will need to be successful in 8th grade next year! Information about Summer Reading will be coming soon, so stay tuned! World Geography: We are presently concluding our analysis of the continent of Africa. Study topics include; the European partitioning of Africa, rise of nationalism in a post- World War II environment, and the end of apartheid in South Africa. Next week we review for CRCT. Language Arts: In Language Arts ,on PATHFINDER, students are working on a joint performance task with Literature. As students work through the texts Titanic: Voices from the Disaster, 882 ! Amazing Answers to Your Questions about the Titanic and Titanic Sinks!, they will gather evidence for a research project. The project will require the student to complete a 3-5 minute presentation about one particular passenger who was aboard the Titanic on her maiden voyage. The passenger may have been a survivor or one of the unfortunate many who lost his or her life that day in the frigid Atlantic. Another important resource we will be using throughout this unit is a website called http://www.encyclopediatitanica.org/. Students may use this website at any point to gather additional information about the passenger that has been selected. It is highly recommended that students do some research on their own. Also, students have learned to use an app called MORPHO and it allows them to make a picture talk for 30 seconds. They will have the use of iPads here at school and can create a MORFO of their passenger. Math: After wrapping up our unit on probability, the students have been hard at work reviewing for the CRCT. The math section will be held April the 24th. Each week weve focused on different topics including expressions and equations, angle relationships, ratios and proportions, as well as other cumulative topics. Students should have various study materials to bring home each night to get in a little extra practice. After the CRCT, we will focus on our spring final exam. The weeks are flying by, so it is important for students to stay focused to ensure that they conclude a successful 7th grade experience. Science: Pathfinder Science students are finishing up the unit on the Human Body. Students have been learning about how the body functions, the various body systems and how those systems function together. Starting next week students will begin reviewing for the CRCT. Your student will be bringing home multiple review sheets and should take time to study those sheets.

Stardust
In Stardust we are all working hard and reviewing in preparation to show what we know on the CRCT!
In Ms. Moody's class, as we near the end of the school year, we are diligently preparing for final activities. We have been reviewing and studying for the Reading CRCT for the past two weeks. We are also taking the Scholastic Reading Inventory test for the final time in order to measure growth in student Lexiles. The expected reading Lexile entering the high school is a 1080. Please ask your student about their Lexile! In the next two weeks we will be finishing our final novel Black Ships Before Troy and putting our knowledge to work through a frozen scene, and a hero essay. Final exams will be the last week of school. This has been a fantastic year and we have seen excellent improvement in all our students! In Ms. Ray's class we are working with Mythology and reviewing hard for the CRCT. We are looking forward to showing off what we have learned this year in class on the CRCT. Ms. Carles' science classes are going back to each of the units we learned about this year to review for the upcoming CRCT. Throughout the year, we've discussed matter, energy, electricity and magnetism, force and motion, and light and sound waves. Up until the day of the test we will touch on the main ideas from each unit to refresh our memories and prepare to show what we know on the CRCT. Students in Ms. Chapman's classes have finished going through and learning all of the eighth grade mathematics standards just in time for the CRCT! At this point, students are

going back and reviewing every single concept that was taught throughout this year. Our review of the standards will end on April 23rd, and students will take the mathematics portion of the CRCT on April 24th (Thursday). After completion of the CRCT, we will begin working on our study guide and reviewing for the final exam that the students will take the last week of school. In Ms. Beavers' class, we finished up our government standards and have moved right along into CRCT review. We are reviewing material in centers groups, as well as going over a CRCT study guide for Social Studies that every student has with them in their notebook. We are heavily reviewing the people of Georgia Studies and the major government concepts, as well as covering each major time period of Georgia's history. We are looking forward to showing off all of our knowledge of Georgia on the CRCT on April 30th!
The last day to check out books for the 2013-2014 school year is May 2. All books are due by May 9, 2014. Students may turn in, pay for, or replace books up until the last day of school. Students with overdue books will not receive their report card until the debt is settled in the front office.
