On April 23, the Finance Committee and County Commissioners will meet to discuss next years county budget. Drastic cuts to library services are being proposed. Show up and tell your County Commissioners to fully fund our libraries now! The more people they see, the better for this precious resource. Facts at your fingertips: The library system (which is less than 1% of the county budget) is in trouble today because the county cut the millage (property tax) rate in 2011. Since then, the libraries have been forced to raid their reserves, cut hours and stop buying many books, including in the childrens collection. Theres a simple fix. The library has its own special taxing district. The millage rate needs to be raised for that district only. To return to full funding of the library system ($64 million) will cost a homeowner with a $100,000 property, just $35 for the entire year.

Libraries make our community better. Its worth a small price to save them.
