Gamma Zetas in the Community

Director of Social Events Morgan Simpson had the main goal this semester of to be different! She wanted people to have the opportunity to socialize in different settings, straying away from the fun but typical events. Beta Upsilon Chi, or Brothers Under Christ, Vice President Solomon and Simpson brainstormed a service exchange, where members could unite for a fun day of contributing to the community. On October 6, 2013, ninety DGs & thirty BYX members volunteered at the Yelp Yappy Halloween 5k, walking dogs, signing in runners, handing out water, even adopting a dog Pepper! Yelp!BR is a local nonkill animal shelter. Two chapter members adopted a sweet pup named Pepper and several members now volunteer on a regular basis. Recently a chapter member found a lost dog, brought him to Yelp!, where he was then adopted by a new member, Katie Fleuriet! Gamma Zetas are not only dedicated to their philanthropy, but also to contributing to the local community in any way possible.

COOL DOWN WITH DG

Cool Down With DG is an annual fall event we host to boost panhellenic bonding. We provide snacks and invite the Greek community to hang out with us and each other. vp: Panhellenic Savannah Grey organized the event along with help from her hardworking crew. Greeks and non-greeks alike came by during the two hour event to enjoy snow balls, cookies, and ice cream sandwiches. More than 500 Panhellenic sisters stopped by to enjoy!

World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. On Thursday October 10, to raise awareness in the Baton Rouge community, Gamma Zetas encouraged others to post what they were grateful to see that day, using the #DGLSU, #TodayIamHappytosee, and #WorldSightDay. They also taught passerbys visual impairment facts, statistics, and collected glasses to donate.

Initiation 2013

Every one of the 99 new members were initiated into the Gamma Zeta 20132014 class, the largest in Delta Gamma history! My favorite part about leading the new member process was seeing them grow with each other through Delta Gamma. This pledge class is absolutely amazing and I was so blessed to be a part of the beginning of their journey, said Lyndsay Neel, vp: member education.

Happy Holidays!

Ever since the first time I visited LSUs campus, I knew I wanted to join a sorority. Coming from a small all-girls high school with only 500 students, a large school such as LSU is a big adjustment. I knew it was important to find a place where I could go that was familiar and felt like home. While participating through recruitment, I knew I had found that with Delta Gamma. Once I joined Delta Gamma, everything that I had been looking for in a sorority was becoming a reality. There was always something about Delta Gamma that felt like home and as my time went on, there would be something new every day that would make me proud to be a DG. The friends and memories that I was making through DG are the parts of college that I could not imagine not experiencing or having them during my college years. I knew I was gaining more than 200 sisters. Participating in leadership positions has always been a big part of my life. By taking on leadership positions in the Panhellenic community and recruitment through Gamma

Zeta allowed me to see a whole different outlook on my love and pride for Delta Gamma. The summer before my junior year, I was fortunate enough to be selected to represent the Gamma Zeta chapter at the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute (UIFI). I learned so much about myself and what I am capable of achieving. After the amazing experience from UIFI, I decided to run for Gamma Zeta president because of the love and extreme passion I have for Delta Gama. In November I was elected the president of Gamma Zeta, which is where I am today. The amount of goals I want to accomplish for Gamma Zeta is limitless, but there is one principle that continues to stick with me, which is elevation. I want our members to elevate themselves individually and elevate our chapter. We know we are the best and need to continue to exude that confidence. I love Delta Gamma so much and cannot wait to serve as our president and give back to the chapter and sisterhood that has given so much to me. ITB, Katelyn Gross Gamma Zeta president
