the most widely known D-Day invasion in history. MAIA: The Longest Day focuses on the READY CAM 3 TAKE CAM 3 human element of D-Day. The film portrays how every soldier on both sides were real people with real thoughts, opinions and lives. Every character in the film speaks his native language and correctly depicts his nation.
READY CLIP 1 ERICH MARCKS: ROLL CLIP 1 FADE CLIP 1 READY CAM 1 TAKE CAM 1 ABBY: As you can see, the German general, Erich Marcks, spoke German. From the different perspectives, the audience learns that every country had hardships and their own people to protect.
MAIA: As the movie progresses, General Eisenhower is burdened with deciding whether or not to launch the attack on Normandy. Eisenhower had to take into account the terrible weather on June 6th and that the window of opportunity was very small.
ABBY: In the following clip, two soldiers argue about the Allies anticipated attack. The Germans interpreted many letters that gave hints about the Allies plans, but the axis powers could never have known how, when, or where the Allies
MAIA: Patriotism is one of the universal themes of war. But The Longest Day brings this ideology to a more personal level. Patriotism is shown through French troops coming back to their home country. They chant in unison as they rush off their ship in order to reach
their country.
ABBY: As you can see, The Longest Day is a war film that shows the perspectives of not just military leaders, but individual soldiers fighting for their country on a bloody, death-filled day in history.
