- 2 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions This operating manual is valid for the perma NET network and its components. These are the central control unit perma NET GATEWAY, the power supply unit perma NET POWER, perma NET DRIVE, the distributor perma PRO MP-6 and the interface module perma NET I/O. These components are connected to each other by means of a special cable via which they are supplied with power and which ensures the communication between all network participants. A perma NET network can consist of up to 100 network participants and constitutes, consequently, an extensive lubrication system. It permanently and precisely supplies all lubrication points connected to it with lubricant, at a pressure build-up of max. 25 bar (360 psi), and independent of temperature. Every single network participant can be programmed and monitored via the central control unit perma NET GATEWAY. This operating manual will help you in programming and monitoring the perma NET and all of its components. With the help of this operating manual you can install and connect all the components of a perma NET with each other. You can also carry out any necessary modifcations or changes in a perma NET. Attention: Please remember that the initial programming and the setting into operation of the network can only be carried out by your local supplier! 2010 perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions 3 Network Description and Technical Data 3.1 Functional Specifcations of the Network perma NET perma NET is a networked lubrication system which connects together individual multi-point lubrication systems - each of which is independent from the others - by means of a cable. Access to the perma NET is provided by a CAN Ethernet Gateway on which a web server is installed. The data are displayed on a PC/laptop via a PC network. This requires the use of a commercially available internet browser. The entire system can be confgured and the lubrication function centrally monitored via the perma NET GATEWAY. Errors, warnings or PRO LC unit changes are indicated immediately via the browser. Lubricant can be supplied to up to 600 lubrication points, optimized in quantity and quality. With a cable length of up to 1,000 meters or with up to 100 separate perma NET DRIVEs, the individual lubrication systems can be distributed throughout the entire production area, with centralized monitoring via the perma NET GATEWAY. All participants in the perma NET are displayed in the internet browser, according to their status. Different symbols are used to display different types of participant (lubrication system with/without perma PRO MP-6 distributor, perma NET I/O). Given that the network can consist of up to 100 participants, the size of the symbols will vary according to space availability. When a network participant is selected, a detail overview opens where necessary settings (e.g. setting of the discharge amount, confguration of the inputs and outputs of the perma NET I/O) can be made. Fig. 1: The network perma NET concept Network Description and Technical Data - 15 - perma NET The perma NET can be accessed by a number of PCs concurrently. Different users can be allocated different user rights. This confguration therefore allows the perma NET to be accessed from a distance without using up valuable lengths of cable. It also means that an internet connection for the purpose of remote servicing and/or sending E-mails/text messages is also possible. 3.2 Network Components and Associated Technical Data 3.2.1 perma NET GATEWAY WARNING! Cables on the inside of the housing are live. You may get fatally injured from an electric shock. f Under no circumstances should you open the housing! Fig. 7: perma NET Termination Resistor 3.2.7 perma NET Connection Cable A special perma NET Connection Cable (available by the meter) is used to connect the individual network participants to each other. This special cable supplies the network participants with a direct voltage of 24 VDC. Moreover, via the special cable and a CAN bus system, the individual network participants can communicate with each other and with the perma NET GATEWAY. The special cable is ftted with direct plug-in connections for simple customizing. The strands of the perma NET Connection Cable are identifed by a number printed on them. Fig. 8: perma NET Connection Cable Pin number Strand number Function 1 1 +24 VDC= 2 2 CANH 3 3 GND 4 4 CANL 5 5 POS Table 7: Pin assignment of the perma NET Connection Cable and plug Planning the perma NET - 23 - perma NET 4 Planning the perma NET Using the perma NET network makes it easier for you to check up to one hundred network participants at a glance from a central location. The perma NET network is a complex lubrication system which can consist of many different network participants. Up to 100 network participants can be connected to a perma NET GATEWAY and programmed and monitored via the perma NET GATEWAY. Only components that actively communicate with each other in the perma NET can be participants in a perma NET. This means that only lubrication systems perma NET DRIVE, any perma PRO MP-6 distributors connected to them, interface modules perma NET I/O and other devices of the perma NET line (various upgrades are planned) can be used in the perma NET. One precondition for trouble-free programming and monitoring of all network participants is that all participants are connected to each other with a special cable from perma-tec, that a perma NET Termination Resistor is in- stalled and that only components of the perma NET line are used. We recommend consulting your local supplier to assist you in planning, installing and programming a perma NET for several machines or a complex plant. The experts of your local supplier are always at your disposal to support you in the many tasks that need to be performed when installing a network. 4.1 Positioning the perma NET Network Components The individual network participants must be connected to each other in a sort of "series connection" by means of a special cable from perma-tec. The cable can be up to 1000 m long, depending on the number of network participants. However, with 100 network participants connected to the network, the length of the cable should be limited to 500 m to ensure that each of the network participants is supplied with power and can communicate with the perma NET GATEWAY. The central component of a perma NET is the perma NET GATEWAY as this is where all the data comes together and where the network and all its participants are programmed. From the perma NET GATEWAY the special cable leads to the perma NET Power - power supply unit, and the next special cable leads from the power supply unit to the frst network participant. Then all the remaining network participants are connected to each other by means of the special cable. On the last network participant the perma NET Termination Resistor is mounted directly onto the last plug. perma NET structure: Fig. 9: perma NET structure perma NET I/O Participant N Participant 1 perma NET Power - power supply unit perma NET GATEWAY Termination resistor Planning the perma NET - 24 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions Participants 1 to N can be the lubrication system perma NET DRIVE (possibly with perma PRO MP-6 distributors connected), interface modules perma NET I/O or other components of the perma NET line. The distance between the perma NET Power - power supply unit and the perma NET GATEWAY should not exceed 10 m! 4.2 Function of the perma NET I/O in the perma NET The perma NET I/O is the interface module for connecting external participants to the perma NET. Via this interface even devices that do not belong to the perma NET line can communicate with the perma NET. This means that system functions of the perma NET can be controlled by external signals and that the perma NET can signal working conditions to external devices and control units. Therefore, external signals and devices that are not perma NET compatible can be evaluated and controlled via this interface module. For example, control signals (e.g. from a PLC) can trigger lubricant discharges. Moreover, a signal can be triggered (e.g. an external warning light or a siren) when an empty PRO LC unit needs to be replaced. For this purpose, the perma NET I/O features four digital inputs for controlling the perma NET or its components and four digital outputs for signaling working conditions and for controlling external devices. The inputs and outputs of the perma NET I/O have to be connected to the external network participants in accordance with their connections, since these connection names are also used for the programming of the required functions in perma NET GATEWAY. 4.3 Creating Groups within the perma NET A group is a logical combination of several lubrication systems perma NET DRIVE. Therefore only lubrication systems and perma PRO MP-6 distributors connected to them can be assigned to a group. perma NET I/O cannot be assigned to a group. Groups are created to simplify the controlling of several lubrication systems. These groups are controlled via the independent perma NET I/O. The modules evaluate external input signals and internal working conditions and control the groups existing in the perma NET. Example: A perma NET supplies all lubrication points in a plant comprising several machines that with one exception (machine 2) work 24 hours a day, with lubricant. The perma NET supplies all machines belonging to the plant with lubricant. To prevent overlubrication of the lubrication points in machine 2, all the lubrication systems installed there will stop discharging lubricant when this machine is stopped. This is achieved as follows: all lubrication systems in machine 2 are combined into a group. One input of a perma NET I/O is connected to the control signal from the machine. This input is confgurated in such a way that all lubrication systems in this group work only if a signal is connected to this input of the perma NET I/O. Installing the perma NET - 25 - perma NET 5 Installing the perma NET The perma NET and all its network participants are mounted and installed in accordance with the following descriptions. On request, this work can also be carried out by your local supplier. WARNING! Live cables. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions 7 Setting Up the perma NET GATEWAY and Setting it into Operation WARNING! Dangerous voltage! Incorrectly connected components can cause fatal injuries from electric shocks. Components could also get damaged. f Please have the entire perma NET checked and accepted by your local supplier to make sure it functions properly before it is set into operation. Please bear in mind that only components of the perma NET line may be used as network participants. Devices that are not perma NET compatible may be connected to the perma NET only via the perma NET I/O module. Your local supplier will check the individual network participants and the special cables to make sure they function properly. Then he will program the perma NET together with your staff and show them how to monitor and oper- ate the perma NET. 7.1 Preparing the perma NET f Install the perma NET Power - power supply unit in a switch cabinet; alternatively, attach it securely to your system or mount it on the wall. f Install the perma NET GATEWAY in a dry location where it is also protected from damage. f If an interface module perma NET I/O is used, it must be installed only in a switch cabinet; this work must be carried out only by a qualifed electrician. f External devices may be connected to the network only by a qualifed electrician. This operating manual and the operating manual of the external device must be observed in doing so. f Only the perma-tec special cable may be used to connect all network participants to each other. This cable may be laid and connected only by a qualifed electrician. The total length of the special cable used must be determined together with your local supplier to ensure that all network participants are supplied with power. f Before you install the lubrication system (and any perma PRO MP-6 distributor connected to it), pre-lubricate the lubrication point and the complete lubricant tube with a suffcient amount of the same lubricant that is con- tained in the PRO LC unit. f When you install the perma NET DRIVE, use the supplied perma-tec mounting device. f If the lubrication system is connected to a perma PRO MP-6 distributor, attach both the lubrication system and the perma PRO MP-6 distributor to the mounting device together. f Each lubricant tube must be laid and installed correctly. The lubricant tube must not be longer than fve meters per outlet, and it must be from perma-tec. f Check if the thread of the perma NET DRIVE (G3/8 or G1/8) matches the connection thread of the lubrication point. If this is not the case, use a suitable reducer or a connecting piece from the range of perma connecting pieces. When a perma NET DRIVE is set into operation for the frst time, the pump system in the drive unit is pre-flled with SF04 from the perma standard range of lubricants. One exception are lubricants for the food industry. About ten discharges are required before the charge which is already in the pump system has been completely discharged (carry out additional discharges if necessary). Setting Up the perma NET GATEWAY and Setting it into Operation - 41 - perma NET 7.2 Prior to Operation Please have the installation of your perma NET checked by your local supplier before it is set into operation. Without this check, perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG cannot give warranty. Please check the following points yourself in advance: f Check the perma NET GATEWAY, the perma NET power and the perma NET I/O for obvious damage! (These components will be electronically checked for correct function by your local supplier.) f Is the power supply to the perma NET ensured? f Did you install the perma NET Termination Resistor on the last network participant? f Are all network participants connected to each other by means of the special cable? f Check all parts of the lubrication systems and and perma PRO MP-6 distributors for obvious damage! f Is the PRO LC unit that is connected to the lubrication point flled with the required lubricant? f Did you set the drive unit of the lubrication system to the correct size of the PRO LC unit by inserting the jumper into the corresponding slot? f Have the connecting pieces and the plugs been installed correctly and securely on the perma PRO MP-6 distributor? f Have the lubricant tubes leading from the PRO MP-6 distributor to the connecting pieces been connected correctly to the connecting pieces? f Is the perma NET I/O module installed correctly into a switch cabinet? f Did you assemble and mount all of the parts correctly and tightly? Please observe the following when programming the perma NET: f You must program each drive system to the desired discharge amount. f You must program every single outlet of the perma PRO MP-6 distributor individually to the desired discharge amount! 7.3 Setting into Operation WARNING! Dangerous voltage! Incorrectly connected components can cause fatal injuries from electric shocks. Components could also get damaged. f Please have the entire perma NET checked and accepted by your local supplier to make sure it functions properly before it is set into operation. The user must always discuss the desired settings with your local supplier and check them once more with the experts from your local supplier when setting the network into operation! When carrying out modifcations or making settings later, the instructions in the operating manual must be observed. Please contact your local supplier if you have any problems. The work of setting into operation for the frst time may only be carried out by the expert from your local supplier. Setting Up the perma NET GATEWAY and Setting it into Operation - 42 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions 7.4 Replacement of the PRO LC Unit If the replacement of an empty PRO LC unit becomes necessary, it will be indicated on the start page of the perma NET GATEWAY software. Lubrication system with a yellow background: replacement required within the "lube time remaining" Lubrication system with a red background: PRO LC unit is already empty. Since there is an integrated real-time clock, the exchange date for replacing the PRO LC unit is displayed in the "Details" screen of the perma NET DRIVE. If you replace the PRO LC unit by a PRO LC unit of a different size, a corresponding protection cover must be used. After the installation of the new PRO LC unit, the control system continues to operate using the previously valid setting of the discharge amount. 7.4.1 Setting the Volume of the PRO LC Unit You have to set the size of the PRO LC unit by inserting the contact pin (jumper) into the base plate of the lubrication system in the drive unit (refer to fgure 27). You can use pointed pliers for plugging in the jumper. If the position of the jumper does not correspond to the size of the installed PRO LC unit, incorrect signals of the control unit will lead to malfunctions. Fig. 27: Setting the size of PRO LC unit via a jumper Since the drive unit and the control board must be protected against moisture, an exchange may only be carried out in dry places! If a PRO LC unit has been removed from the lubrication system and another PRO LC unit has been installed, the control system always assumes that this PRO LC unit is new and full. Therefore you should never use a PRO LC unit if it is not completely full! Contact pin (J umper) Top-mounted jumper on size 250 ccm Setting Up the perma NET GATEWAY and Setting it into Operation - 43 - perma NET 7.4.2 How to Replace the PRO LC Unit Since the drive unit and the control board must be protected against moisture, an exchange may only be carried out in dry places or you must take precautions to ensure that moisture cannot penetrate! f Turn the protection cover on the drive unit counter-clockwise and remove it. f Remove the empty PRO LC unit. f Remove the plug (refer to fgure 13, Chapter 5.3) of the PRO LC unit. f Push the PRO LC unit into the protection cover until lubricant comes out of the outlet (refer to fgure 14, Chapter 5.3). f Place the new PRO LC unit on the drive unit, turn it until the catch locks and the teeth of the PRO LC unit and the drive unit interlock. The control system automatically recognizes the new PRO LC unit. You should use only completely full perma-tec PRO LC units to guarantee a trouble-free operation. f The lubrication system continues to operate with the previous setting of the discharge period. f If necessary, change the confguration of the lubrication system (refer to Chapter 10.2.2). The discharging process automatically starts using the previous settings of the discharge period if the lubrication system was switched on prior to the replacement of the PRO LC unit. Operating the perma NET GATEWAY - 44 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions 8 Operating the perma NET GATEWAY 8.1 Switching the perma NET GATEWAY on To switch on the perma NET GATEWAY you simply have to apply the supply voltage it may take up to three minutes for the device to fnish starting up and be ready for access. When the perma NET GATEWAY starts up, it carries out a NET Initialization and NET Verify to check for any changes in the perma NET. If no abnormalities are found, the perma NET switches automatically to "Online" status. If any problems were found, the display status does not change from "Offine", i.e. the data displayed may not be up to date. Switch to the "perma NET Confguration" menu and work through the messages shown there. The status (Online/Offine) is shown at the top of every page. f Always check that the perma NET GATEWAY is in online status every time after the perma NET GATEWAY has been restarted. Fig. 28: Status display 8.2 During Operation f Carry out regular inspections of the perma NET during operation. You should pay special attention to warnings and error messages on the start page of the perma NET GATEWAY. f In spite of the software monitoring system carry out regular visual inspections of the lubrication systems and the perma PRO MP-6 distributors connected to them. Look especially for leakages and check the condition of the individual components and tubes! f Check the condition of the lubricant tubes and connections regularly! f Check the flling level and, if necessary, the remaining discharge time of the individual PRO LC units regularly on the start page of the perma NET GATEWAY! f Whenever malfunction messages are displayed by the perma NET GATEWAY, you can determine and elimi- nate the individual errors by following the menu instructions. If a malfunction cannot be fxed, please contact your supplier for technical support. When using PRO LC units with a long discharge period of more than 12 months, you must take into account the durability of the lubricant. Replace the PRO LC unit with a new one when the durability period has expired. Operating the perma NET GATEWAY - 45 - perma NET 8.3 Logical Statuses of the Participants NET status: status of the perma NET Group status: status of the group to which the NET DRIVE is assigned. If the NET DRIVE is not assigned to a group, this status is automatically "On". NET DRIVE status: status of the NET DRIVE. MP-6 outlet status: status of the individual outlets of a perma PRO MP-6 connected to a NET DRIVE. A perma NET DRIVE can only discharge lubricant if NET status AND Group status AND NET DRIVE status =On. If at least one of these statuses =Off, there will be no discharges. A perma NET DRIVE with perma PRO MP-6 can only discharge lubricant if NET status AND Group status AND NET DRIVE status AND at least one MP-6 outlet status =On. Discharges are then made at all outlets with MP-6 outlet status = On. If at least one of the frst three statuses = Off, there will be no discharges. If a perma NET I/O controls a perma NET DRIVE, the NET DRIVE status is set to On or Off by the perma NET I/O. If a perma NET I/O controls the perma NET, the NET status of all perma NET DRIVEs is set to On or Off by the perma NET I/O. If a perma NET I/O controls a group, the group status of all perma NET DRIVEs assigned to the group is set to On or Off by the perma NET I/O. If a perma NET I/O controls a perma NET DRIVE MP-6 outlet, the MP-6 outlet status is set to On or Off by the perma NET I/O. 8.4 Assigning ID Numbers Identifcation numbers are automatically assigned to the network participants by the perma NET GATEWAY. The ID numbers appear in the start page (below the drawing symbol that represents the participant and in the "Details" screen for the network participant). In addition, the ID numbers are transmitted to the network participant and shown in the display of this participant. This applies both to the perma NET I/O and the lubrication system. Assigning IDs for a new perma NET The identifcation numbers that are used to identify the individual network participants are automatically assigned by the perma NET GATEWAY. This process can take some time, depending on the number of participants in the perma NET. The ID numbers cannot be assigned manually. They are assigned by the central control unit in the physical order of the network participants connected to the network (exception: when you add or remove network participants from an existing network). This means that the frst network participant that is connected to the perma NET Power is given the ID number "one", and the last participant in the perma NET is given the last ID number. In a perma NET that is used to capacity, this ID number can be 99. Assigning IDs for new participants in an existing perma NET New participants should only be added with the power supply to the perma NET switched off. When the perma NET GATEWAY is switched on again, it will fnd that changes have been made to the perma NET when it carries out the NET Initialization and NET Verify. The system then remains "offine". If new participants were recognized, you select the menu item "New IDs for New Participants" in the "perma NET Confguration" menu. This means that the ID numbers already assigned to the "old" network participants are maintained and the numbers for the new network participants are increased by one per participant, starting from the highest "old" existing number. This is done regardless of the physical position of the newly added network participants; for example, in a network with 30 "old" participants the frst new participant with the ID number 31 can be positioned directly beside network participant number 1. Operating the perma NET GATEWAY - 46 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions Assigning IDs for all participants in an existing perma NET To assign participant numbers for all participants in the perma NET, select the menu item "New ID distribution for all" in the "perma NET Confguration" menu. However, when you select this, you should be aware that all data of all network participants must be checked. The names of the network participants, the designations of the lubricant in the perma NET DRIVEs as well as the groups and the allocations to groups must be checked very carefully and changed if necessary. Because when you select this menu item, all the data saved for each network participant can be lost. Deleting IDs of participants removed from an existing perma NET If you remove a participant from an existing perma NET, this participant must be deleted in the stored data. When the participant is deleted, its ID number is automatically deleted as well. This interrupts the consecutive numbering, e.g. if participant 27 was deleted, the numbers are no longer 26 27 28 but only 26 28. 8.5 Replacing Participants To avoid having to make all the settings again from the start whenever you replace a participant, proceed as follows: f Select the menu item "Download area-> Participant Confgurations". f Download the confguration of the participant to be replaced. f Shut down the perma NET GATEWAY (refer to Chapter 8.6) and switch off the power supply. f Replace the participant. f Switch on the power supply again. 9 The perma NET GATEWAY starts automatically. This takes up to three minutes. 9 The NET Initialization recognizes new participants; select "New IDs for New Participants". 9 The new participant gets the highest number. f Carry out a NET Verify. 9 The NET Verify reports "Participant position + confg changed". f Select "Save new Positions" and then "Read data from participants". f Select the menu item "Download area-> Participant Confgurations". f Select the participant which has been newly connected ("Selected participant"). f Select the confguration fle of the replaced participant f Set the check mark for "Import in expert Mode". f Import the downloaded confguration of the replaced participant. f Carry out a NET Initialization and NET Verify again. 9 The new participant has now been given the same confguration as the old one. Operating the perma NET GATEWAY - 47 - perma NET 8.6 Extending or Reducing an Existing perma NET Adding a participant f Shut down the perma NET GATEWAY by calling up the address "http://<IP-Adresse>/shutdown.esp" in the browser window. The following message appears when it has shut down: "NET GATEWAY has been shut down and can now be disconnected from power supply". f The perma NET can be disconnected from the supply voltage. f Install new participant and connect it to the perma NET. f Switch on the perma NET Power - power supply unit again and start the perma NET GATEWAY. When the perma NET GATEWAY starts up, it carries out a NET Initialization. The results of the NET Initialization are displayed in the "perma NET Confguration" menu. f Carry out a perma NET check. To do so, select the menu item "NET Verify" in the "perma NET Confguration" menu. The result of the NET Verify is "Participant position + confg changed". f Select the menu item "Save new Positions", then the item "Delete Missing Participants". The data will be saved in the perma NET. The perma NET is "Online". Removing a participant f Shut down the perma NET GATEWAY by calling up the address "http://<IP-Adresse>/shutdown.esp" in the browser window. f The perma NET can be disconnected from the supply voltage. f Remove the participant and reconnect the perma NET Connection Cable correctly. f Switch on the perma NET Power - power supply unit again and start the perma NET GATEWAY. The result of the NET Verify is "Participant position changed +missing". f Select the menu item "Save new Positions", then the item "Delete missing participants". The data will be saved in the perma NET. The perma NET is "Online". Adding or removing a perma PRO MP-6 distributor f Install another perma PRO MP-6 distributor in the perma NET or remove a perma PRO MP-6 distributor from the perma NET. f Select the menu item "NET Init"; a NET Initialization will be carried out. f The result of the NET Initialization is "Consistent NET". f Carry out a perma NET check. To do so, select the menu item "NET Verify" in the "perma NET Confguration" menu. f The result of the NET Verify is "Participant confg changed". Then select "Read data from participants". The system will ask you to confrm whether you want to save the change and then the new data will be saved in the perma NET GATEWAY. The result is then "Confguration checked, OK" and the perma NET GATEWAY is "Online". The perma PRO MP-6 distributor will have been added or removed. Operating the perma NET GATEWAY - 48 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions 8.7 Low-Temperature Cut-Off of the Network Participants CAUTION! At temperatures below -20 C (-4 F), lubricant will no longer be discharged! Your system may get damaged if operating without lubricant. f Make sure that the temperature is always above -20 C (-4 F). In order to protect the system from damage, the low-temperature cut-off of the perma NET DRIVE lubrication system is carried out automatically by a built-in temperature sensor. If the temperature falls to -20 C (-4 F) or below, the lubrication system is switched off by the low-temperature cut-off function, and the bar below the picture which represents this lubrication unit turns yellow in the start page on the perma NET. As soon as the temperature rises and reaches -19 C (-2.2 F) or higher, the perma NET DRIVE is switched on again and takes up operation at the point where it had been switched off. The perma NET GATEWAY start page shows the bar below the picture of the lubrication system in green again. 8.8 Communication in the perma NET Every participant in the perma NET can send messages on the CAN bus and carry out tasks at any time. The perma NET GATEWAY does not take any active action here. The CAN bus uses CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access / Collision Avoidance) as the method of access. This method works on the basis of the following principle: Every participant which is able to transmit is able to hear whether the bus is occupied (Carrier Sense) and only starts its transmission when the bus has been free for a certain time. It is possible for a number of participants to start transmitting at the same time (Multiple Access). The resolution of a collision which may occur is dealt with in the arbitration process. If one participant fnds that the level on the CAN bus is not the same as that which it sent, it immediately stops its transmission. This means that the highest priority message is given access to the bus, without the message being destroyed in the process (Collision Avoidance). A participant that stops its bus access because of losing in arbitration will automatically initiate repetition of its message later. This arbitration mechanism ensures that no messages are lost. When a perma NET DRIVE initiates an action, e.g. a discharge, it frst "reserves" the CAN bus by following the aforementioned procedure. If the reservation process was successful, the participant starts its action. No other perma NET DRIVE is permitted to execute an action during this time. Once the perma NET DRIVE has completed its action, it cancels its reservation. Other perma NET DRIVEs can then start their actions. By coordinating the network participants with each other in this way, it is possible to operate up to 100 participants with just a single perma NET Power - power supply unit. Given that at any one time it is only possible for one perma NET DRIVE to carry out a perma PRO MP-6 distributor initialization or a discharge, there can be delays in the carrying out of additional discharges. Additional discharges triggered during an action by another perma NET DRIVE can only be carried out when that action has been completed. Security Concept - 49 - perma NET 9 Security Concept 9.1 NET Inspection At a certain interval, which can be set, users in the group of NET inspectors may be regularly requested to inspect the perma NET when they log in. This has to be confrmed and is recorded with the user name and time. In order to assign users to the group of NET inspectors, the applicable check box has to be activated in the User Management (refer to Chapter 10.7.3, User Management). If the request time is exceeded by a certain amount of time without an inspection of the perma NET having been carried out, a specifed user can be informed of the fact (refer to Chapter 10.8, Security Settings). If the set time for the inspection is reached and the user concerned logs in to the system, a dialog box will prompt him to inspect the NET. A confrmation link appears in the data area. The dialog box appears with every login until the NET Inspection has been confrmed in the data area. Fig. 29: NET Inspection dialog box 9.2 Power Failure The perma NET GATEWAY can survive a power failure for at least 2 weeks without losing the time and date. If the perma NET GATEWAY is without power for too long, the system time gets "forgotten". If the system fnds that this is the case during booting, each user will be issued with a prompt for the time/date to be set with every login (regardless of whether the user has the rights required for setting the time). 9.3 Automatic perma NET Monitoring When the perma NET is in operation, it is constantly monitored on a cyclical basis. Errors are displayed on the start page by red bars below the affected participants. The error is shown in plain-text in the "Details" screen of the participant. Missing participants are shown in the form of a gray image when the system is in operation and are marked with the red bar on the start page. Double identifers, e.g. because a participant was installed from another perma NET, cannot be recognized. The only way to resolve this problem is to re-assign the participant numbers to all participants. perma NET GATEWAY software - 50 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions 9.4 Error Prioritization Errors and messages can have different priorities. In addition, an error clarifcation management system can be created, so that different people can be informed by E-mail or text message on the basis of ascending priority. Refer to Chapter 10.8.1 "Alarm Confguration". Every error and every message has a standard priority of 1 (saving of the error and display). If the "Security Settings ->Alarm Confguration" contains E-mail addresses for Priority 1, the error message will be immediately sent to these addresses. If a problem is found during the NET Initialization or NET Verify, an error "Problems during NET Verify. NET is OFFLINE" will be generated, with Priority 5. However, this will not trigger the sending of any E-mails/text messages. E-mails/text messages will only be triggered if the priority is subsequently increased. The priority of each error is increased by 1 in the rhythm of the error prioritization interval (refer to Chapter 10.6.1 "perma NET Confguration->General Settings"). The highest and therefore most important and urgent priority is 10. An E-mail/text message can be sent whenever any of the priority levels is reached. With every increase in the error priority, all recipients who are entered for lower priority levels will also receive the error message again as well. If the highest priority is reached, the E-mail/text message will be sent repeatedly to all recipients who are entered for all priorities, in the rhythm of the error prioritization interval. The reaching of a state of "lube time remaining" before empty is not treated as an error and is therefore given a priority of 0, and this is not increased. 10 perma NET GATEWAY software 10.1 Operation Access to the perma NET GATEWAY is via a web browser, where the IP address has to be entered. In the condition on delivery the perma NET GATEWAY attempts to get an IP address via a DHCP server. If the PC network does not have a DHCP server connected to it, the perma NET GATEWAY can be accessed via a second fxed IP address. IP: 192.168.5.155, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 (refer to Chapter 10.7.4) The following versions of the web browser, as a minimum, should be installed on the accessing systems: Mozilla Firefox 3.5.1 Internet Explorer 8.8.6001.18702 Opera 9.64, Build 10487 J avaScript must be activated. If older versions or other browsers are used, it will not be possible to guarantee that the display will be correct. perma NET GATEWAY software - 51 - perma NET Setting into Operation for the First Time Once the perma NET GATEWAY has been connected to the power supply and the software has been opened with a web browser, the start page appears with the menu overview. The NET Initialization starts automatically and is shown in the data area. After successful completion it is followed automatically by the NET Verify. Fig. 30: NET Initialization and NET Verify If both checks were passed, the perma NET will be in "OFF, Online" status. 10.1.1 Screen Layout The web pages have been created for a screen resolution of 1024 X 768 pixels.

The user name and password have to be entered to log in. Different predefned rights are assigned to set user groups. Users are created and then also assigned to a specifc user group in the perma NET GATEWAY Confguration (refer to Chapter 10.7). Login after a power failure If the perma NET GATEWAY is without power for too long, the system time gets "forgotten". If the system fnds during booting that the date contains the default year, each user will be issued with a prompt for the time/date to be set with every login (regardless of whether the user has the rights required for setting the time). Logout To log out, use the "Logout" link next to the system time and user information. This menu item is only visible if a user is logged in. A user will automatically logged out by the system if a preset timeout time is reached. The "Logout-Timeout" timeout time can only be changed by a user with administrator rights ("perma NET Confguration", "General Options"). Confguration changes are saved, with the date, time and user name, when the user logs out (either when the user consciously logs out via the menu or as a result of a timeout logout). Multi-session capability The perma NET GATEWAY is multi-session-capable, i.e. several users can log in from different computers at the same time. If one user with writing authorization is logged in, another user who logs in will only be granted restricted writing access, in order to prevent data inconsistencies. The user will be advised accordingly and will be shown the name of the user who logged in frst. Lost connection Should there be a loss of connection between the web browser and the perma NET GATEWAY, the user who is logged in will be automatically logged out after the timeout-logout time. Processes/operations currently running on the perma NET GATEWAY will be completed in full. This applies especially to operations that require somewhat more time than others. Where such operations are interrupted by a power failure, a NET Initialization and NET Verify are carried out automatically after a restart. This is to ensure that the perma NET is not in an undefned condition when the perma NET GATEWAY is restarted. Timeout-logouts are saved as error records (refer to Chapter 10.9.3) 10.1.4 Language Switch The pages are displayed in the standard language that each user selects for himself. The language of the user interface of the perma NET GATEWAY software can be changed at any time, however. f Select the desired language in the drop-down menu in the header area of the page. 9 The language changes. Physical order With the "Physical Sequence" menu item the network participants are displayed in physical order. Sorting by group membership With the "Group Overview" menu item the perma NET DRIVEs are sorted on the basis of their group membership (see Chapter 10.3, perma NET Group Membership), i.e. the perma NET DRIVEs in Group 1 are displayed frst, then the perma NET DRIVEs in Group 2, etc. Then the lubrication systems which do not belong to a group are displayed, followed at the end by the perma NET I/O devices. The groups are separated by horizontal red lines to make the display clearer. The group name is shown as a heading; the corresponding lubrication systems are displayed below it. This form of display can result in a lengthy list you may therefore have to scroll down to be able to see the rest of the list. Fig. 35: Sorting by group membership Sorting by participant No. With the "Sorted by Participant Number" menu item the network participants are displayed sorted on the basis of the participant numbers (meaning independently of their physical order). 10.2.2 Participant Details To switch between the "Details" screens for each of the participants, use the "Previous Participant" and "Next Participant" menu items. Additional discharge With an additional discharge, a lubrication point can be supplied with an additional amount of lubricant. This is how to carry out an additional discharge: f Click with the left mouse button on the "Additional Discharge" "menu item or the "Additional Discharge Outlet X" for participants with 6 outlets. f Confrm the question that appears. 9 The additional discharge starts. When the additional discharge is carried out, an amount of 0.5 ccm is supplied to the lubrication point. An additional discharge is only possible at temperatures above -20 C (-4 F). Every additional discharge reduces the remaining discharge time since an increased amount of the lubricant has been supplied. The remaining discharge period will then automatically be calculated by the control unit and shown on the "Details" screen. The minimum period between two additional discharges is 30 seconds. If a further additional discharge is triggered within these 30 seconds, it will only be carried out after the minimum period has elapsed. Only one additional discharge can be triggered per participant during the waiting time. Additional discharges triggered during an action by another perma NET DRIVE can only be carried out when that action has been completed. perma NET GATEWAY software - 62 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. An overview about the perma NET and the status of the NET Initialization and NET Verify appears in the window. Fig. 46: perma NET confguration Network confguration covers the steps of NET Initialization (network initialization) and NET Verify (network verifcation) and associated messages and actions, including error handling. The perma NET is scanned; missing or new participants are reported, as are confguration changes. The NET Initialization identifes the number of perma NET DRIVEs and perma NET I/Os installed in the perma NET and also identifes their physical order. In addition, the participant numbers and the type of participant (perma NET DRIVE, perma NET DRIVE MP-6, perma NET I/O) are also recognized. Problems found during the NET Initialization are displayed. If the NET Initialization was successful, the NET Verify is carried out automatically. The NET Verify reads all the confguration data of the participants identifed by the NET Initialization and compares them with the data saved internally in the perma NET GATEWAY. If the NET Verify is also successful, the perma NET will then be "Online" and all actual data are displayed and can be changed. Any physical and logical problems in the perma NET which are identifed by the NET Verify will be displayed and can be acknowledged once they have been eliminated. The perma NET remains in offine status until all problems have been eliminated and acknowledged. In this case the data shown are therefore not actual data and it will not be possible to access all data. The NET Initialization starts automatically when the perma NET GATEWAY is started. To be able to see all the data in up-to-date form, the NET must be in "Online" status. This status can only be achieved if the NET Initialization and NET Verify have been completed successfully (even if a problem occurred during an action and it was then eliminated and acknowledged accordingly). Where such operations are interrupted by a power failure, it is important to ensure that the perma NET is not in an undefned condition when the perma NET GATEWAY is restarted. To ensure that this is the case, a NET Initialization is carried out automatically after every restart. perma NET GATEWAY software - 74 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions Example: NET Verify reports "Confg changed". The original condition is shown below it, with a direct comparison to the current condition. The "Turn ON perma NET" menu item appears in the "perma NET Confguration" menu as soon as the perma NET is switched off. Whenever one of these two menu items is selected, the NET status of the perma NET is set to "OFF" or "ON" accordingly. This does not mean that the participants are disconnected from the power supply. They are in a form of standby mode. This menu item provides an easy means of preventing all lubrication activities, e.g. for production breaks. Switching on the lubrication again afterwards is just as easy, without having to carry out any new confgurations. 10.6.5 New ID Distribution for All The command "New ID distribution for all" re-numbers all perma NET participants in accordance with their physical position within the perma NET. These new participant numbers are shown in the display of the participant concerned. This is how to allocate new participant numbers. f Select the menu item "New ID distribution for all" in the "perma NET Confguration" menu. 9 New participant numbers will be distributed. The NET Initialization starts automatically after re-numbering and this is followed, after successful completion, by the NET Verify. Re-numbering may cause the assignment of data to participants to be lost. It is therefore essential that the confguration data of the participants and the group confguration are checked after re-numbering and corrected if necessary. perma NET GATEWAY software - 80 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. If the memory should run out of memory space, the oldest data will be overwritten to make sure that the most up-to-date data are always available. This remaining time warning indicates the number of days before such an overfow that an error message with priority 1 will be generated. The priority of this error message is then increased at the priority interval so that it forms part of the error clarifcation management system. The remaining discharge time is calculated once a day on the basis of the average data volume. When records are downloaded, this memory is released again. In order to ensure that the calculation of the time remaining is as accurate as possible, both discharge records and error records should always be downloaded. If the tick is set in the box next to the user, that user will receive the error message in the form of an SMS text message if the error message has reached the relevant priority. Table 34: Fields in "Alarm Confguration" With every increase in the error priority, all those recipients who are contained in the lists for lower priority levels will also receive the error message again as well. This applies to both E-mail and SMS notifcation. 10.8.2 SMS Confguration The format for the SMS text messages to be sent is specifed in this menu item. All users who are selected in the "Security Settings" - "Alarm Confguration" menu to receive SMS text messages, will receive the SMS text messages in this format. The perma NET GATEWAY uses E-mail-to-SMS gateways for sending SMS text messages. These gateways receive a message in E-mail format, convert it into an SMS text message and then forward that SMS text message to the recipient . Sending SMS text messages via E-mail-to-SMS gateways is a universal means of sending SMS text messages. It is possible to use not just the major mobile network operators with this method, but the independent ones as well. For the required settings, please contact your E-mail-to-SMS service or telephone provider. The required settings then have to be entered in the relevant felds in the "Security Settings" - "Alarm Confguration" - "SMS Confguration" menu. In a normal import, general confguration data such as the name of the participant and the lubricant are transferred. In expert mode, by contrast, the complete confguration (including the data affecting the perma NET system) is transferred. That means participant numbers, for example, are also included. perma NET GATEWAY software - 101 - perma NET f Click on "Browse..." button and select the required fle in your PC. f Set the check mark for "Import in expert mode". f Click on the "Import" button. 9 All participant data will be imported. Example of a faulty import: If the confguration of a participant is overwritten and another participant already has this participant number, it will no longer be possible to differentiate between the two participants, i.e. if, for example, an additional discharge is carried out, both participants will carry out an additional discharge. If the functionality of the NET becomes impaired because of incompatible confguration data, it is only possible to reset the status using the "NET GATEWAY Confguration" menu and the "New ID Distribution for All" submenu item. Then, however, all the confguration data, from the discharge amount to the NET I/O settings and the group confguration, have to be checked and, if necessary, corrected. 10.9.6 Total NET Confguration Fig. 64: Total NET Confguration Downloading Total NET Confguration In the "Total NET Confguration" menu item you can download the current confguration of the perma NET to your own user PC in the form of a txt fle. Importing in expert mode can destroy the working effectiveness of the perma NET beyond repair Importing in expert mode causes changes to the system confguration data. f Only import in expert mode if you are completely familiar with the perma NET. f Before starting to import, make sure that the physical structure of the perma NET is compatible with the structure saved on the fle to be imported. In a normal import, general confguration data such as the name of the participant and the lubricant are transferred. In expert mode, by contrast, the current system data are overwritten by the imported data. Examples: If the confguration of a NET DRIVE with distributor is sent to a NET DRIVE without distributor, it will report an error by the time of the next discharge at the latest. If the confguration of a NET I/O is sent to a NET DRIVE, it will no longer be possible for that NET DRIVE to be addressed. If the functionality of the NET becomes impaired because of incompatible confguration data, it is only possible to reset the status using the "NET GATEWAY Confguration" menu and the "New ID Distribution for All" submenu item. Then, however, all the confguration data, from the discharge amount to the NET I/O settings and the group confguration, have to be checked and, if necessary, corrected. perma NET GATEWAY software - 103 - perma NET Confguration Data History The perma NET confguration is saved every time a user logs in and out. In the "Confguration Data History" menu item you can restore or save the confguration of the perma NET to a very specifc time. Fig. 65: Downloading history of confguration data perma NET GATEWAY software - 104 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions 10.9.7 Entire perma NET The "Entire perma NET" menu item displays an overview of the confguration of the perma NET. All participants are displayed with their most important confguration data in table form. This table can be downloaded in the form of a csv fle. Fig. 66: Entire perma NET 10.9.8 Group Confguration perma NET In the same way that you can download the group overview in the "Group Confguration perma NET" menu, you can do the same in the "Download area" menu. A description of how to download is contained in the "Group Confguration perma NET" menu (refer to Chapter 10.3). 10.9.9 Overview Remaining Discharge Times In the same way that you can download the remaining discharge times in the "Overview Remaining Discharge Time" menu, you can do the same in the "Download area" menu. A description of how to download is contained in the "Overview Remaining Discharge Time" menu (refer to Chapter 10.5). perma NET GATEWAY software - 105 - perma NET 10.10 " CAN-Diagnosis" Menu The CAN diagnostics tool is an application that allows messages on the CAN bus of the perma NET to be monitored, logged and sent. The "CAN-Diagnosis" menu contains a description of how to open the CAN diagnostics tool. Only users in the "Superadmin" group are able to open it with a login. The CAN-Diagnosis tool accesses the communication of the perma NET directly. The sending of messages can destroy the integrity of the perma NET GATEWAY. Use of the CAN-Diagnosis tool without precise and detailed knowledge of the structure of the messages and the way they work may therefore have an adverse effect on the functionality of the entire perma NET. This menu item is only available to "Superadmin" group users. f Click on "CAN-Diagnosis" in the start menu. 9 Information about the CAN-Diagnosis is shown in the data area. Fig. 67: CAN-Diagnosis Saving Records of the Individual Actions in the Network - 106 - perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG The Expert in Lubrication Solutions 11 Saving Records of the Individual Actions in the Network Data of the actions concerning the individual network participants, e.g. carrying out a lubricant discharge, are recorded and saved by the network participant itself and by the perma NET GATEWAY. In the following text, these various actions will be called "records". All records created when discharges and errors are saved are given a time stamp by a real-time clock. In a perma NET to which a perma NET GATEWAY is connected, all actions performed by the individual network participants are transmitted to the perma NET GATEWAY where they are saved. When the perma NET with the perma NET GATEWAY is in operation, each record, immediately after being generated in a network participant, is transmitted to the perma NET GATEWAY where it is saved. The central control unit offers a memory capacity for 55,000 records. Once the memory capacity is full, the oldest records are overwritten. The perma NET GATEWAY therefore always contains the newest 55,000 records at any one time. Before any records are overwritten, the perma NET GATEWAY can be confgured in the "General Settings" menu item in the "perma NET Confguration" menu to issue a warning message. The records saved in the perma NET GATEWAY can be transferred to a a PC by means of the download function or with the help of the fle transfer tools (FTT). perma NET without a perma NET GATEWAY Without a control unit, all records are saved in the individual network participants. Each participant has a memory capacity of 200 records for this purpose. When this is full, the two oldest records of the same type and with the same date are combined. These combined records are marked accordingly and given the more recent date. This means that the combined discharge records no longer indicate each individual discharge but the total of all discharges carried out on one day. If no more records can be combined, all other records generated after that will be lost. Nevertheless, all discharges of lubricant are stored in one single value so that the total amount of discharged lubricant is available. This value is called "accumulated discharges". This procedure makes it possible to operate a perma NET for an extended period without data loss even without a perma NET GATEWAY. Then, if a perma NET GATEWAY is connected to this existing perma NET, a NET Initialization and NET Verify are conducted, and all records saved in the network participants are transferred to the central control unit. The data is saved there and then deleted in the individual network participants. This process can take some time, depending on the number of participants and the data saved there. Types of record Explanation Discharge Record Is generated after a successful discharge from a lubrication system. PRO LC unit exchange record Is generated after replacement of a PRO LC unit, at the time when a new PRO LC unit is installed. perma NET I/O, "condition changed" record The state specifed in the condition set in perma NET I/O has changed (e.g. the signal is no longer connected to an input). Defnition of conditions in the description of the perma NET I/O output. perma NET I/O, "action performed" record An action set in an perma NET I/O was performed. Possible actions: see description of the perma NET I/O. Malfunction and warning record Malfunctions and warnings are recorded by the network participant where they occur. Table 36: Types of record Saving Records of the Individual Actions in the Network - 107 - perma NET 11.1 Transferring Records to a PC The records can be transferred to your own computer in the download area of the perma NET GATEWAY software in the form of a csv fle. They can also be transferred by means of a fle transfer tool. The transfer starts automatically if the tool connects via a telnet connection via Port 3401. You do not need to enter a password. To make them easy to view and sort, the CSV fles, which are formatted in Unicode (UTF-8), can also be imported to spreadsheet programs (e.g. MS Excel, OpenOffce Calc). The coding has to be set when the data are imported, otherwise umlauts and special characters will not be depicted properly. 11.2 Explanation of the Records The individual values in a record are listed in the CSV fle in a line, separated by separators (refer to Chapter 10.7.1, "NET GATEWAY Confguration" - "General Settings" menu). Date and time format The date and time are saved in the ISO 8601 format. Date and time are listed together. Example: ;2002-06-20;15:21:00; Meaning: 20.06.2002 at 21 minutes and 0 seconds past 3 pm Structure of the records The frst number in every record specifes the type of record. The following types can occur: Type Explanation 1 Discharge Record This record describes the exact time of a lubricant discharge from a perma NET DRIVE and indicates how much lubricant is left after the discharge. 2 LC Exchange Record This record describes the time when a PRO LC unit was replaced. 3 IO State Exchange Record This record describes the time of the change of a condition in a perma NET I/O as well as the resulting action 4 IO Action Exchange Record This record describes the time when an action was performed by a perma NET I/O as well as the event that triggered the action 5 CAN Error Record Error messages from the network participants. 6 GATEWAY Error Record Error messages that are generated by the perma NET GATEWAY.
