ber den Traum: Water Drops

crochet pattern
By Asimina Saranti
This pattern is more about the
motif, and less about the
earrings themselves.
The instructions are not
based on yarn - you can use any
type of yarn, any type of hook -
whatever you like. The motif
can be used in various ways - as
a part of a multi-motif ower,
an afghan, decorative pieces:
free your imagination, there is
no limit!
But if you want to duplicate
exactly what is shown in the
photos, I will give you the
details of the materials I used:
For the turquoise ones I used
Schachenmayrs Catania cotton
yarn suitable for (US) 2
1/2
/(metric)
3 size hook. For the purple ones I
used ELBAs Cotone Egitto Mako
cotton yarn suitable for (US) 6/
(metric) 4 size hook but crocheted
it with a (US) 2
1/2
/(metric) 3 size
hook.
In case you want to use more
than one colors, you can use a
different color in each round, or
just a multicolored yarn.

In this pattern I used the sliding loop
technique to begin working, and since
its not a widely known technique, I
thought it would be a good idea to
write about it.
I should note that this is not a
technique that I developed - I learned
it from the book Beyond the square:
Crochet motifs by Edie Eckman. You can
nd it on Page 10.
So here it goes:
1 While holding the yarn with
your right hand, wrap the yarn around
your left forenger two times. A
double ring should form.
2 Hold the yarn tail with your
thumb and middle nger and insert
the hook through the ring. Having
passed the rst two strands, grab the
working end with the hook and pull it
through.
3 Begin crocheting as your pattern
suggests.
4 Before joining the rst round,
gently pull the beginning tail. The
circle on the centre will begin to
tighten. Continue only for a bit - dont
close the ring completely. There is one
strand of yarn that will not tighten
and will create another ring.
5 Now pull the tightened thread of
the circle/ring in a way that will make
the additional ring, that was created in
the last step, close.
6 Pull the beginning tail once more
to close the main ring as much as you
want.

Taking care of the tails:
Once you have nished the
motifs, you will have two tails,
one from the beginning and
one from the end. We dont
want them to show, so we will
hide them inside the motif.
Take the tapestry needle and
insert the beginning tail in the
end of the needle. Now insert
the tip of the needle through
the base of the dc stitches
around the centre of the ring.
Make sure to do so in the same
direction the tail comes out of
the other end of the ring.
Circle around the needle a
couple of times and pull the
thread. Pull the needle out and
cut any excess yarn.
Now, do the same for the
end tail, but this time, try to
hide it in the stitches close to
the end - nd tight ones, so the
yarn wont come out later
while using the motif.
The earrings:
Take your earring wires,
and if like those in the photos,
slightly pull the ball of the
base up. You will see a small
opening in the wire circle. Try
to pull through the centre of
your 3 chained corner. And
you are done!
Things you will need:
- any yarn you want,
one or more colors -
your choice
- any crochet hook that
matches your yarn
weight
- tapestry needle
- a pair of earring wires
(in case you make
earrings)
I love this color
It reminds me of summer -
and sea of course!
