1. INTRODUCTION
To enhance the learning process through the digitization of the curriculum, each e Primary school in the Republic of Mauritius is equipped with one or more sets of SANKORE EQUIPMENT where each set consists of Interactive Video o Projector (wall mounted)

Laptop

Remote control, infrared pens, infrared pen holder, battery charger, CDs

Whiteboard

Each set of equipment will be installed in a classroom, hereunder called DIGITAL CLASSROOM (DC).

2. DC ORGANISATION
The DC can be DEDICATED (a a special room identified for this purpose) or NONDEDICATED (equipment installed in existing classroom) The DC will have the following features : - Equipment installed as per guidelines of the Ministry of Education - Doors and Windows are burglar-proofed - Aeration/Ventilation provided whenever the equipment is being used via opened door and windows or fan - Whiteboard and equipment installed IN-FRONT of the classroom

- A locker to keep laptop, stylus, CDs and log-book log

The DC is under the direct responsibility of the Headmaster.

3. SANKORE BENCHMARK
The Ministry of Education and Human Resources and its agents will monitor usage of Sankore equipment according to a benchmark set as follows :

Whether the DC is DEDICATED or NON-DEDICATED, NON DEDICATED, the Headmaster must ensure that a rotation system or timetable is put in place to allow all Standard IV, IV V and VI pupils to use Sankore for at least 5 hours ho per week for each class. .

4. HEADMASTER RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HEADMASTER


It is the responsibility of the Headmaster to ensure that the equipment provided for the Sankor Project is used for official purposes only. Accordingly the Headmaster will have to: keep the key of the DC and associated accessories in safe custody; ensure that the DC is operated by authorized persons only; ascertain that proper entries are made by Educators in the Log Book before and after use of the DC; DC ensure that the laptop is i kept in a safe and secure place when it is not being used, to prevent access to unauthorized people and to guard against theft and/or tampering; take necessary action to deal with any issue regarding the physical security of the DC ; ensure that all the equipment is switched off prior to the end of the school day (including after Enhancement Programme sessions); ensure that all windows and doors of the DC are properly locked prior to the end of the school day (including after after Enhancement Programme sessions); ensure that during torrential rains, thunder and lightning or cyclonic weather, the equipment is switched off; ensure that the windows are opened every day during the school holidays for at least an hour in order to ensure ensure ventilation and to prevent overheating of the room; ensure that batteries are removed from the remote control and the stylus before school holidays in order to preserve them;

5. EDUCATOR RESPONSIBILITIES IES OF EDUCATOR


It is the duty of the Educator using the DC to: Have e followed appropriate training, read and be familiar with the Quick Start Instructions for Users as per the projector manual; make the necessary entries in the Log Book each time the DC is used; used ensure that the laptop, projectors remote control, infrared pen and econtents on CDs/DVDs is kept in a safe place(locker or Headmasters office) after his/her class; hand over to the Headmaster the key of any piece of furniture in which any accessories forming part of the DC have been kept under lock. lock report any problem linked with the equipment in the DC to the Headmaster; Headmaster Ensure that no excessive pressure is applied while using the stylus. Only light contact suffices. ensure that the stylus is always kept in its holder after use so as to minimize the possibility of constant pressing of the stylus tip on other objects. Constant pressing of the tip can result in battery drainage or cause permanent damage to the infrared emitter; ensure that the projector is placed on standby e.g. during lunch time when it i will be idle for more than 20 minutes; ensure that the USB connecting cable is not left trailing on the floor; ensure that ensure that all the equipment is switched off prior to the end of the school day (including after Enhancement Programme sessions);

6. ICT SUPPORT OFFICER RESPONSIBILITIES OF ICT SUPPORT OFFICER


The ICT Support Officer has to inter alia: ensure that educators are making proper use of equipment in the DC; perform preventive maintenance on laptop in the DC including cleaning of screen, cleaning of keyboard, checking the OS, loading of virus definitions, disk cleanup and defragmentation and other relevant procedures; make first level intervention on the equipment for any problem reported; contact the supplier or the Computer Computer Technician of the Zone for further intervention or repair; and fill in the History Sheet / Intervention Report for any intervention done on the equipment.

7. SCHOOL INSPECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF SCHOOL INSPECTOR


The School Inspector will have to: ensure that educators are making regular use of the Sankore equipment; equipment ensure that educators ors include include usage of Sankore in their lesson plans; indentify training needs of the teacher in ICT or Sankore usage; use the Sankore Monitoring sheet to report on Sankore usage per DC per school on a regular basis; basis

8. CLEANING & MAINTENANCE CLEANING & MAINTENANCE


The Headmaster will ensure that the white boards are cleaned fortnightly with normal alcohol since white board markers may leave some residue after normal cleaning; the projectors are cleaned once a month with a clean and dry piece of flannel cloth; preventive maintenance of laptop is done at least once in 2 months; the school purchases and uses a dust cover for the protection and safety of the projector during school holidays;

report any problem with equipment being used in the DC to the Computer
Technician hnician or the Coordinator at Zone level;
