Module Description

Actuator-sensor interface
The actuator-sensor interface connect to the analog module by means of an ASi ribbon cable (yellow) with penetration technique.

Auxiliary power
The auxiliary-power cable (black ribbon cable) with penetration technique has to be connected to the analog module if total current required for the sensors of the analog input module (applicable to current and voltage modules only) is in excess of 46 mA. If an auxiliary power source is connected the sensor supply is not short-circuit-proof (max. 500 mA). The output modules do not require auxiliary power. The auxiliary-power cable can, however, be connected through for other modules.

Status LEDs
The green AS-i LED and the red FAULT LED indicate the module's operating status. The following combinations are possible:
AS-i LED (green) Off FAULT LED (red) Off Operating status No voltage at module (AS-i powerfail) Polarity of AS-i cable is incorrect On On Off On Module is being polled by the AS-i master. No data transmission Hardware fault Flashing On Module's slave address is "0" No triples transmission Watchdog timed out (output module) Sensor supply overload (input module)

Remedy Apply AS-i voltage Check polarity (OK) Connect or configure AS-i master Replace module Assign a slave address in the range "1" to "31" Use AS-i master to Specification 2.1 Set CPU to RUN, activate output 1) Disconnect M12 plug, check sensor

Alternate flashing

) With CP343-2 and Link20E , SFC 58 "WR_REC" must be called with the slave address and suitable data record (140 ... 147) in order to activate triples transmission.

Table 1-1: Status LEDs

The green AUX PWR LED is on when auxiliary voltage is applied. Only input modules for current and voltage have this LED.

The modules have two analog inputs or outputs, as applicable.

Cap
Caps must be fitted to all unused inputs or outputs to ensure that IP 67 protection is maintained.

Shielding / Ground
The modules can be grounded by means of their mounting plates. This is the recommended means of grounding the modules. The shield of the cable connected to the analog input or output can be grounded via the metal collar of the M12 socket. Suitable connectors include the Series 713 shielded M12 connectors manufactured by Franz Binder GmbH.

Operation
The requisites for operating the analog modules are:
A higher-order PLC (for example S7 series) An AS-i master to AS-i Specification 2.1 and compatible with the higher-order PLC An analog module suitable for the application requirements, complete with mounting plate

1.1.1

Module Variants
A distinction is drawn between input modules and output modules.

Input modules
Modules are available for the following measuring modes:
Current measurement Voltage measurement Resistance/thermal-resistance measurement

Output modules
Modules are available for the following output modes:

2.1

Addressing
Each module must be assigned one individual address at the actuator-sensor interface. The range of possible addresses is 1 - 31: each address must be unique on the AS-i master. A module's address can be changed any number of times. Each module has a complete address. Other A/B modules cannot be assigned the same address. The requisites for addressing the analog modules are (see order numbers in Appendix A.2):
An addressing device or a programming and service device (PSD) with yellow connecting cable and AS-i power supply unit connected or a GOSSEN GMC Metratest 36 AS-i A connecting cable between addressing device and analog module

The addressing socket is concealed by a removable screw cap.

The illustration below shows the position of the addressing socket and the connecting cable.

Addressing socket Connecting cable Screw cap (tightening torque: 40 5 Ncm) Figure 2-2: Setting the Address

See the User Guide (of the addressing device or PSD, as applicable) for instructions on how to set the address.

Notes Remember to reinstall the screw cap after addressing, in order to maintain IP 67 protection. A module's address can be changed any number of times.

Description of Input Modules

3.1

General Properties of the Modules

Input modules are available for the following measuring modes:
Current measurement Voltage measurement Resistance/thermal-resistance measurement MLFB: 3RK1 207-1BQ40-0AA3 MLFB: 3RK1 207-2BQ40-0AA3 MLFB: 3RK1 207-3BQ40-0AA3

Module variants and order MLFB

Watchdog
The red FAULT LED on the slave module lights up if the module does not receive a data frame from the AS-i master for longer than 50 ms.

Periphery fault
In the event of a sensor-supply overload (input modules for current and voltage measurement only) or if data transfer compliant with profile S7 .3 with the module is discontinued, periphery fault bit S1 is set in the slave's status register.

Interference-frequency suppression
You must parameterize interference-frequency suppression for the analog input modules for 50 or 60 Hz, as appropriate.

Wire-break detection
In the 4 ... 20 mA and 1 ... 5 V ranges, the value for overrange/underrange is read in for a wire break (32 767/-32 768 decimal, see also Table 3-4 in Section 3.2.5 and Table 3-8 in Section 3.3.5).

Zero-scale, Full-scale calibration

The analog inputs are automatically calibrated on run-up.

Common mode voltage

The common mode voltage UGL is measured between IN- (pin 4) and GND (pin 3) with the sensor connected and must not exceed 2 V. At the same time, the measured-value signal must not exceed the maximum input voltage of the module variant in question. Correct representation of the measured value is ensured only within these range limits.

Description of Input Modules

Equipotential bonding
Equipotential bonding is necessary between the individual machines and sensors if two or more analog modules are operated in a common AS-i network. The maximum permissible voltage between sensor and AS-i network is 50 V. The formula for calculating this voltage is as follows:

U S1 U 1 50V

Description of Input Modules

Smoothing of the Measured Values

The individual measured values are smoothed by digital filtering. The filter is a digital lowpass filter of the 1st order. Smoothing can be activated or deactivated by means of a parameter:
Parameter bit P3 = 1: without smoothing k = 1 module scan cycle Parameter bit P3 = 0: with smoothing k = 8 module scan cycles

The formula for calculating time response for a given step of measured value x and a smoothing factor k is as follows:
xn + ( k 1 ) yn 1 y n = --------------------------------------k y n = Transfer value to the system in the current cycle n

The graph below shows step response for a smoothing factor k = 8 plotted against the number of module scan cycles.
1

0 0 8 k=8 50 Module scan cycles 100

Figure 3-2: Step Response with Smoothing ON (k = 8)

With 2 channels and 50 Hz interference-frequency suppression, a module scan cycle takes approximately 130 ms (see also Figure 3-3 and Figure 3-4).

3-4

AS-Interface Analog Modules GWA 4NEB 333 0352-02

Description of Input Modules

Analog/digital converter
The analog/digital converter in the modules operates on the sigma-delta principle. The sigma-delta converter calculates the mean value over a defined measuring period (reset time) of 20 ms. The 20 ms value is applicable for 50 Hz interference-frequency suppression; the corresponding period for 60 Hz is 16.6 ms. The mean of a 50 Hz or 60 Hz interference voltage and its harmonics thus approaches zero. The converter computes the digital measured value from three individual measuring periods and outputs this value. The conversion time tc for a module can cycle is thus
tc = 2 channels * (3 * 20 ms + 5 ms) = 130 ms (for 50 Hz) tc = 2 channels * (3 * 16.6 ms + 5 ms) = 110 ms (for 60 Hz)

The 5 ms are due to internal processes in the A/D converter. The following is a block circuit diagram illustrating the layout of the A/D converter.

Description of Input Modules

Transfer time, analog value

The time for transferring a new analog value from the analog module to the AS-i master under worst-case conditions for 2 channels is 21 AS-i cycles. The transfer time for the two channels can be calculated as follows: ttransfer 21 * tAS-i + tPLC Whereby: tAS-i = max. 5 ms tPLC = transfer time between PLC and master. Example for locally installed CP343-2: typically 250 s, max. 650 s

The two channels are multiplexed (alternate transmission). The maximum transfer time is therefore: ttransfer 105 ms + tPLC

Total processing time

The total processing time ttotal for the complete transfer of 2 channels is the sum of:
Conversion time tc AS-i transfer time ttransfer PLC transfer time tPLC

The maximum total transfer time for 2 channels (with local CP 343-2) can therefore be calculated as follows: ttotal 130 ms (tc) + 105 ms (ttransfer) + tPLC ~ 235 ms

Parameters
The parameters are set jointly for the channels and are automatically sent to the analog module by the AS-i master after a powerfail. The modules can be re-parameterized in the field. The parameters printed in bold type are set by the AS-i master if there are no changes made to the configured slave parameters in the AS-i master (as-delivered status of the AS-i master). See Chapter 5 for information on parameterization.

Note If invalid parameter settings are sent to the module, the parameters default to the settings printed in bold type.

Description of Output Modules

4.1

General Properties of the Modules

Output modules are available for the following output modes:
Current output Voltage output MLFB: 3RK1 107-1BQ40-0AA3 MLFB: 3RK1 107-2BQ40-0AA3

Module variants and order MLFB

Transfer time, analog value

The time for transferring an analog value from the analog module to the AS-i master under worst-case conditions for 2 channels is 21 AS-i cycles. The transfer time for the two channels can be calculated as follows: ttransfer = 21 * tAS-i + tPLC Whereby: tAS-i = max. 5 ms tPLC = transfer time between PLC and master. Example for locally installed CP343-2: typically 250 s, max. 650 s

The two channels are multiplexed (alternate transmission). The maximum transfer time is therefore: ttransfer = 105 ms + tPLC [ms]

Time response, output step(settling time tt)

Settling time tt for the analog output channel depends on the load. This time is
0.6 ms for resistive loads 6 ms for inductive/capacitive loads.

The analog output signal is stable at the end of the settling time.

Total processing time

The total processing time ttotal for the complete transfer of 2 channels is the sum of:
PLC transfer time tPLC AS-i transfer time ttransfer Settling time tt

The maximum total transfer time for 2 channels (with local CP 343-2) can therefore be calculated as follows:
ttotal tPLC + 105 ms (ttransfer) + 6 ms (tt) ~ 111 ms

Description of Output Modules

Watchdog and periphery faults

The outputs are pegged at 0 V or 7 .3 mA, as applicable, if there is no exchange of data in accordance with slave profile 7 .1 for longer than 5 s or if the analog module does not have a data frame call within 50 ms. In other words the watchdog is triggered and a periphery fault is registered if the analog module is connected to an AS-i master which, although it has included the analog module in cyclic data interchange, does not supply the analog module with analog output values in accordance with slave profile 7 .3. The red FAULT LED on the analog module lights up if the watchdog is triggered. The watchdog signal is automatically reset as soon as the output module starts receiving analog output values. The periphery fault is reported by setting periphery fault bit S1 in the slave's status register.

Resolution
The D/A converter's resolution is 11 bits + sign. The value is processed with a resolution of 15 bits + sign in the PLC. This means that the step width for a change in the output value at the output module is 16 steps. Changes in the 4 least significant bits are ignored.

5.1 Parameterization
The parameters are sent to the AS-i master by the CPU. In the case of the S7300 controller, this requires function block FC "ASI_3422" (FC 7). FC 7 is on a diskette enclosed with the manual for the CP-343-2 and the Link 20 E. When the CPU runs up, FC 7 executes commands including "Erweiterte_Parameter-liste_schreiben" (write extended parameters list) (3CH). The structure of the command data in the send buffer is illustrated in the table below.

Example for S7-300

SFC 59 is used in the S7-300 to read the analog values from an analog input module, while SFC 58 is used to write analog values to an analog output module. Both these SFCs are included in the CPU. 4 channels (8 bytes) are reserved for each slave when analog values are transferred. Channels 3 and 4 are not relevant for these modules. The example below illustrates a call for reading and writing an analog value.

AWL //Read analog input data for slave 5: CALL SFC 59 //RD_REC REQ :=TRUE //Continuous trigger IOID :=B#16#54 //Fixed value LADDR :=W#16#100 //CP address (in this case 256 dec.) RECNUM :=B#16#8D //DSNR=141 (Analog data, slave 5) RET_VAL :=MW 14 BUSY :=M 9.2 RECORD :=P#DB20.DBX64.0 Byte 8//Target range, analog input data //Examples: Process analog values: L DB20.DBW 64 + 400 T DB20.DBW 88 T DB20.DBW 106 //Slave 5, input channel 1 //Slave 6, output channel 1 //Slave 8, output channel 2

//Output analog data for slaves 5 through 8: CALL SFC 58 //WR_REC REQ :=TRUE //Continuous trigger IOID :=B#16#54 //Fixed value LADDR :=W#16#100 //CP address (in this case 256 dec.) RECNUM :=B#16#8D //DSNR=141 (Analog data, slave 5...) RECORD :=P#DB20.DBX80.0 Byte 32//Source range, analog output data RET_VAL :=MW 16 BUSY :=M 9.3

Glossary
A/B address
AS-i Spec. 2.1 specifies that max. 62 A/B modules can be connected to an AS-i master. Consequently, each address (1 ... 31) is subdivided into an A address and a B address. Analog modules are not A/B modules and each requires a complete address. Consequently, no more than 31 analog modules can be connected to an AS-i master.

A/D converter
(analog/digital converter) Converts an analog signal into a digital bit pattern. Used in the analog input modules.

Address

Each slave is assigned an individual address by which it is identified by the master. The address is in the range 1 - 31. Address 0 has a special function automatic addressing. The master addresses its slaves by means of their addresses.

Address 0
Address 0 has a special significance: It is the default address of each Automatic addressing.

slave when shipped.

Actuator
Element which performs actions in response to commands (e.g. contactors, valves, analog control signals).

Analog
In contrast with binary signals, these are continuous values, such as temperature, pressure and so on. A given analog value can be assigned a given electrical current or voltage value.

Analog value transfer

The development of a secure protocol for analog value transfer meant that the actuator-sensor interface could be used to transfer non time-critical analog values. The process is compatible with existing masters and slaves.
