Strand: History submitted by:Pietra Jerome

Modeling (noun) - To show how to do something correct. Sharing (verb) - To have, use, or do together with another or others. Resolve (verb) - To find a solution to.

F. Procedure: 1. Refer to the Quick Look on TE-page 40 Extend Quick Look Explain to the students that we have been talking about how to be respectful of others all week. Call the students attention to pages 40 & 41. Have them look at the Helping Hands Tree. Introduce new vocabulary words.

2. As a whole class we will have a mini discussion and review of what he have covered this past week. Students will tell what they have learned about being respectful, how to help when someone is in need, how to corporately work together, etc. 3. Tell the students we will be making a helping tree today. Each child will need to write one helping job on the leaf they are given. The student will model what the job is and then place it on the helping tree the teacher has created. (Examples: opening the door for someone, sharing a toy, sharing school supplies)

G. Assessment: For the assessment the student will each receive a graphic organizer provided on page 41 in TE. The student will need to write words\draw pictures on how they can model good behavior.

What will you use to measure student understanding? I will listen and watch the students model their behaviors to help resolve problems. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will know the students understand the concepts by hearing them talk in the whole group lesson. I will also make sure and look at what the children are writing on their leaf before they model the good behavior they wrote about. H. Closure: Teacher will conclude the lesson by sharing with the students that all these jobs they modeled can help resolve classroom problems.

1.Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? The easiest part of this lesson will be teaching the students the new vocabulary words. Students have seen the teacher model how things should be done. Students also know that sharing is an essential part of the classroom. Students need to share with one another so everyone can get a chance to learn and play. Resolve has been a vocabulary word that the students are familiar with because it appears in textbooks and classroom readings. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? The most challenging part of this lesson that I will have to teach is helping each student come up with different ways they can model good behavior. I would ideally want each student to write and show a different way they can share or be respectful in the classroom to help resolve problems. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? For an extension of this activity I will use the song on page 40 of the TE. The students will practice the song daily to help them remember how to be good helpers inside and outside of the classroom. 4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? For students who do not grasp the concepts I can have them tell me about a way they have seen something been resolved, whether it be at home or at school. I will write what they say on the leaf and have the child hang it on the tree. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? As of right now I dont think I need to change any part of the lesson. Once I actually teach it to the students I may need to alter or add additional information. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part for this lesson plan was finding a standard that I have not already used. I also needed to make sure that the standard I did find fit in with my lesson theme.
