Most people do not like change because of the unknown. Worldwide seminars are presented on how to adopt to change and how to embrace it with a positive attitude. Life changes everyday; technology has evolved over the past decade, and a vast number of people are using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Still there is a pronounced need for the printed media, especially community newspapers, and I am proud to announce that GPS News is now expanding to Hazyview as well. There are people that do not posses a computer, or have the skills to use social media. To see the joy on their faces, or to receive their thanks after having read GPS News, justifies the long hours of hard work. The only constant factor that will never change is God. If change in your life hurts and you dont know how to get through it, trust the One that will never change. May you have a blessed Easter with your families, and if you are travelling, please be safe.

Barking mad adventurer cycles through

Gerda van den Bos

n 14 March, adventurer, writer and photographer Sean Fraenkel embarked on a journey to cycle from Musina to Cape Town with his two Jack Russels, Turbo and Tequila. Sean and the dogs are doing this in aid of Pet Empowerment in Townships (PETS), a non-profit organisation in the Western Cape that looks after animals in townships and poor communities. GPS News caught up with him on 27 March, when he was en route between Graskop and Sabie after having spent the night in Pilgrims Rest. After 12 years as a commercial diver, Sean had returned to Cape Town, but soon longed for another adventure. He decided to follow the route from Musina to Cape Town through Lesotho as described in the book Riding the Dragons Spine by David Bristow and Steve Thomas. He calls his adventure the Barking Mad Charity Ride because he is cycling with his Jack Russels. The two dogs ride along in a specially-tailored doggy trailer, but sometimes they enjoy running along the bicycle. I do this as a labour of love, Sean told GPS News. Although he is alone most of the time on his journey with only the dogs for company, he said: So far the people have made this trip. They are so generous. While passing through Sabie, he

He said he hoped to complete the trip in three months as he was trying to avoid the harsh winter conditions in Lesotho. Sarel from Sabie

Sarels bakery crazy enough for croissants

Sarel Loots (or Sarel from Sabie, as he became known when he competed in the TV show Masterchef) started a new venture in Sabie. Joining hands with brother and sister team Riaan and Elizca Davies, Sarels Crazy Butter Bakery came into existence. They specialise in baking a vast variety of croissants, and also sell unbaked, frozen croissants for the hospitality and restaurant industry. A croissant is a buttery viennoiserie pastry named for its crescent shape. Croissants and other viennoiserie are made of layered yeast-leavened dough. The dough is layered with butter, rolled and folded several times in succession, then rolled into a sheet, in a technique called laminating. The process results in a layered, flaky texture, similar to a puff pastry, according to Wikipedia. Sarels Crazy Butter Bakery also specialises in wraps and other delectable treats. Sarel says: I have good news for gluten intolerant sufferers Sarels Crazy Butter Bakery now has a range especially for you. We only use 100% butter in our products, and I am sure once you have tasted it, you will come back for more. Orders are taken on a daily basis. See the advert on p. 14 for contact details.

he annual glamorous Miss Sybrand beauty pageant was held at Sybrand van Niekerk High School in Sabie on 27 March. The participants had to compete in two categories: semi-formal and formal. A Mr Personality was also chosen from the guys accompanying the girls on stage. An array of vibrant colours fluttered across the stage. Shernice Grounds classical black dress looked very sophisticated. Hot pink, like the dress Present Khoza wore, and the glittering purple of Mpumi Moyenis dress were also hits. Ellen Mashego made a brilliant white dress look chic, while Natasch du Plessis wore an elegant turquoise dress. Brilliant red on the outfit of Michelle Harrison and the vivacious green of Clarisse Janse van Rensburgs dress also made it across the ramp.

Mr Personality contestants. The guys outfits mostly complemented those of the girls they accompanied on stage. Thabo Ngwenya, Ethan Scrimmiger and Liam Mashego looked as if they stepped from a fashion page. Most of the guys looked quite confident on the stage and it was clear from the cheering who were firm favourites. The beautiful Mpumi Moyeni was chosen as Miss Sybrand. Clarisse Janse van Rensburg and Michelle Harrison were chosen as the two princesses. The Mr Personality title went to Ethan Scrimmiger. Thabo Ngwenya won the Table of the Year title with a beautifullydecorated table.

BRIEWE LETTERS
Sweet lies, eternal hope
The article about old advertisements in the last edition of GPS News reminded me of an advert aired some years ago. When the duel blade for razors was first launched, there was a TV advertising campaign which went roughly as follows. A gorgeous hunk, with a snow white towel round his midriff, was seen rubbing his chin with an expression of unbounded satisfaction. The insert showed that the first blade almost made it whilst the second finished the job to perfection. Good stuff. Today we have the quad blade. Based on the evidence of the advert above, the third and fourth blades are removing two layers of skin. Little wonder that the shelves are packed with bottles of aftershave for sensitive skins. At a time when we are getting increasingly sensitive to environmental issues, consider these further impacts: more plastic, more steel, more energy. What is the solution? Grow a beard so that daily you can allow yourself a warm glow of satisfaction for helping to save the planet and your face. Give the money you save to a deserving charity of your choice. Your daily joy is now complete. I think it was Abe Lincoln who said:

BP staff honesty
Whilst compiling GPS News on Saturday 5 April, the power suddenly went off. My initial reaction was: eish, it must be lightning or load shedding, but no... the pre-paid units had run out. Wanting to buy units to the value of R300 at BP in Sabie, I was told that they do not accept debit cards, and went outside and withdrew R350. Without thinking, I handed the cashier the money, took the slip and went to my vehicle. The cashier, Nella Mashego came running to my vehicle with the balance of R50. GPS News recently also reported about a customer who had left cash at the ATM and was called by BP staff after having investigated on CCTV who the money belonged to. I would like to compliment BP on the calibre of the staff they employ. Thank you, Nella, for your honesty. Valerie Kemp, GPS News

Groot pret vir kinders by biblioteek

Students enjoy practical training

Gerda van den Bos
Thuso Malomane, Mmathabo Mmila, Engela Moreku and Millicent Malele have become familiar faces in the Graskop library the past five months. They are students at ATTI College in Nelspruit and are busy with their six months practical training. Thuso said they have gained a lot of experience by working in the library, especially of customer service. The students have helped out with large projects such as the implementation of the scanning system. They also assisted children who do research on the librarys computers. April is their last month of practical training before they will continue their studies in Nelspruit.

Vaccination programme for gr. 4 girls

Gerda van den Bos
The Department of Health, in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, introduced the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programme in schools. This programme aims to reduce the number of cases of cervical cancer in the country as HPV is the leading cause of this type of cancer. Research has shown that HPV infection can be prevented if girls receive the vaccination early in life. That is why the programme is targeting gr. 4 pupils of nine years and older. Participation in the vaccination programme is voluntary. On 20 March, health practitioners visited Graskop Primary School, and the gr. 4 girls lined up to get their vaccinations. Most of them looked a bit nervous, but they took responsibility for their own health. They will receive a second dose in September.

Topes maak hul tydrendrome waar

You have to finish to win, is Shaun se slagspreuk.

Theunissens takel Sasol 14de keer

Nick is n selferkende speed freak.

just had to go and find out more about the Toyota Fortuner D4D for myself as I see so many of them on the road. My test vehicle was 2010 Fortuner D4D 4x4 automatic with around 75 000 km on the clock from a local dealer. I set off for a weekend of driving around the Lowveld, going for breakfast in Pilgrims Rest, picking stuff up from a hardware shop and running around town. My wife, Liesel, also used the Fortuner and she was bowled over by the ease of driving, parking and carting around our daughter. She was also very happy with the low boot lid opening that made loading shopping bags easy. I did a bit of four-wheel driving around the area and the 3.0 l turbo diesel with 120 kW and 340 Nm of torque made light work of most obstacles. The auto gearbox is a pleasure and you can sit back and relax in the super comfy and luxurious ride in town or on the open road. I was also amazed by the fuel consumption. The Fortuner returned an average of 10 litres per 100 km in combined highway and town driving. For the fortunate ones among us buying a new one does not get any better, but I would opt for a two- or threeyear-old model with low mileage with the balance of mo-

Motorists should note that there will be a stop-and-go traffic point on the road near Mac Mac Forest Retreat between 08:00 and 09:00 for the start of the race.
