Amusement Park

Team Blueberry
Ang Zhang, Piyu Sun, Yanshan Chen, Zhixing Li
Objective
Determine the appropriate presentation time
maximize customer throughput
balance the utilization between presentation
and ride
minimize customer wait time
minimize unfilled rows

Why Simulation ?
Creates a computer-based model of a real
system to evaluate the systems behavior
Output performance data to be analyzed
Strategies before implementation on live
customer
Improve business performance

Modeling Boundary
Priority groups, standby groups, and singles
Two types of Presentation Queues
Designated batching rule

Customer
Arrival

Riding Leave
Verification and Validation
Single replicate and single entity to verify
the system logic
Change one of the parameter and
determine the system response
Ask system expert to ensure the model
validate to real world

Assumptions
The park operate 9 hours per day
The group cannot split
Each row only contain one group
No breakdown involve during operation
If no single available to fill the row, the row
contain one group only and enter system

Initial Parameters
Party size distribution
Party of 2 20% Party of 3 15%
Party of 4 45% Party of 5 20%
Load time for enter presentation room rows : 5 seconds
Load time for enter presentation room : TRIA(6,7.9,12) seconds
Presentation time: 3.5 minutes
Delay to fill the staging area: TRIA(0.2,0.4,0.5) seconds
Delay for loading vehicles: UNIF(12,15) seconds
Delay for safety check after loading: UNIF(19,23) seconds
Ride time: 3 minute
Unloading for ride: 10 seconds

Modeling of Pull System
Logical entity is a dummy entity to initiating this pull
system
Entities are waiting at hold modules for a specified signal
to proceed
Once the last group entity release a resource, the next
group in line will seize this resource and start processing
Batching customer entities to one row entity
Batching 8 row entities to one group entity

Justification line worker
Action: Fire the line worker

Why? 1.Resource utilization low (10.59%)
2. Operating Cost
3. Reduce overall flow time
Solution: Place a written board with
instructions
Justification Unloading
Combining loading and unloading
together
Open two sides at the same time
to reduce redundant waiting time
Designed to increase utilization
of riding and throughput of the

Final Recommendations
The suggested presentation time is 3.5 minutes.
Firing worker and combining unloading time do
not significantly improve output performance
measures.
We suggest that system should not be changed
based on our current analysis.
