Dear RPIA Families,
As you know, our students this week have started taking the big test. By this, I am referring to
ISTEP. The importance of this assessment cannot be understated. Students are viewed by their mastery
of skills. We as educators use this level of mastery to determine needs for the individual and then
differentiate instruction to match the individuals needs. This standardized test measures all skills
learned over the course of the year. Each child's performance this year, will then give information to
next year's instructors on the needs of the child. If this information is inaccurate, then time is
wasted. Although I personally do not believe it is an absolute measure of childs growth, I do know that
ISTEP acts as a one-stop-shop to look over their level of ability.

As your principal, I am here to affirm that my staff has done, and will continue to do, everything that
is necessary to ensure your child is exposed to, and given opportunities to work with, every skill
required by not only Indiana, but also Warren Township.

Please take time this weekend to discuss your childs success this year so he/ she will know that he/
she IS prepared for this last week of testing. Our students will finish this last round of testing on
Friday. I ask that you, the parent, ensure your child continues to get plenty of sleep, balanced meals,
and has a healthy social environment, so that your child will not have obstacles facing him/her when
being asked to show knowledge. I also ask that you continue to ensure your child is ready for school, on
time, and prepared during this last week of testing. In my experience, when routines fall, so do
academics and behavior.

I am confident that our students have done their very best and will continue to do their best throughout
next week. Parents, I cant thank you enough for your tireless efforts and the support you provide your
child each and every day. I am blessed to be a part of such an amazing team, the RPIA team!!!!
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!
As always, I appreciate your support. Mr. Koomler

COUNSELORS CORNER
Our conversation continues with our students regarding the importance of respect, and
especially self-respect. As we talk about self-respect, we talk about the importance of doing
your best. Doing your best is a sure sign of students showing their respect for themselves
and for others.
One day next week our 6
th
graders will be taking a math placement test to determine the most
appropriate math class for them in 7
th
grade. Thank you to those of you in 6
th
grade who
turned in your related arts request for next year. We are still missing a few of those and you
may still turn them in. Enjoy your weekend!
