Invitation: You are invited to participate in this study because you are a medical student
at UBC.

Purpose: The purpose of this project is to assess the efficacy of using virtual patient
simulation case to teach interdisciplinary teamwork

Study Procedures:
If you choose to participate in the study, you will be asked to complete an online
virtual patient simulation case on interdisciplinary diabetes case which we estimate will
take 1 to 2 hours of your time. You will work independently at your own leisure via the
Internet. Throughout the case, you will receive immediate feedback on questions and
correct answer will be presented.
Prior to the case and immediately after, you will be asked to complete an
anonymous Interdisciplinary Education Perception Scale. This will allow us to
understand how this virtual patient case affects attitudes of allied health professionals and
interdisciplinary team work.
If you have any concerns regarding your performance, any of the study
investigators are available to discuss this with you at the completion of the project.

Potential Risks: There are minimal risks anticipated with participating in this study. As
a student, you are familiar with taking tests. One potential risk is that your self-esteem
may be affected if you perform poorly on the test. However, we believe this risk to be
minimal and no greater than that encountered throughout your education from
assessments and examinations. If you have any concerns regarding your performance you
will be able to discuss this fully with the study investigators.

Potential Benefits: The potential benefits from participating in this study are two-fold.
First, you will learn up-to-date evidence based care of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Second,
you will have contributed to our understanding of ways to improve interdisciplinary
collaboration.

will be password protected. Participants will not be identified by name in any reports of
the completed study.
