The Oil Sands Division of Alberta Energy provides administrative and regulatory services for Oil Sands Royalty
Regulations, Oil Sands Tenure Regulation, and Crown and individual agreements to ensure that appropriate royalties
and rentals are calculated and collected for the benefit of the people of Alberta. The Oil Sands Policy branch ensures
that policies, projects, and oil sands development remain competitive and responsible for the sustainable use of the
resource for the benefit of all Albertans.

Role
Be at the forefront of Albertas economy and energy sector! As the lifeblood of Albertas energy sector, the oil sands
accounts for the majority of the crude oil produced in the province. Be part of this exciting team, as we look toward
future development of the oil sands.

The Oil Sands Policy branch is looking for a dynamic Policy Analyst to support the analysis of oil sands policies,
strategic development of the resource, and identification of emerging trends in the industry. This position works
collaboratively within a small team to enhance and evaluate oil sands policy and develop strategic recommendations
for timely, efficient decision-making. To support the important work of the branch, the Policy Analysts will be tasked
to:

- Contribute to the development of business rules, policy recommendations and legislation pertaining to oil
sands royalty.

- Monitor oil sands royalty issues raised by government or industry, and identifying any necessary changes to
business rules, policies, or legislation; and

- Provide support for interpretations, advance rulings, and dispute tribunals

- Participate as required in government (branch, department or cross-ministry) or industry-government
meetings, committees, task forces or working groups relating to oil sands royalty.

- Research and write background papers in support of changes to business rules, policies and legislation.

- Contribute to the oil sands royalty guidelines, information bulletins or letters and other correspondence.

- Provide research and analytical support with respect to business rules, policy recommendations and
legislation changes.

- Monitor oil sands development to highlight emerging impacts and trends in order to create proactive
recommendations for future developments.


As the successful candidate, you will utilize your breadth of knowledge and experience in policy, finance, resource
and environmental economics, business, and the oil sands industry. You will have the ability to understand and
analyze complex business, technical and legal issues related to the oil sands industry. You will also possess
advanced research, data analysis and computer modeling skills in order to determine business impacts and assess
financial / economic implications. The ability to step back and assess options and implications of issues and
problems individually and as part of a team and relate them to the solution of policy and business rule issues will be
an incredible asset in this adaptable environment. Your leadership and abilities to collaborate with internal and
external stakeholders will give you a strong foundation for this position. Overall, your excellent written and verbal
communication skills, ability to nurture effective relationships, and willingness to learn and be flexible will ensure your
success in the dynamic oil sands industry.

Qualifications

This position requires a bachelors degree in a related field (such as Economics, Business, Engineering, Public
Policy) plus 4 years of progressively responsible related experience. A masters degree is an asset. Equivalencies
will be considered. A high level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
is also required. Experience in the energy industry and policy development is desirable and knowledge/skills in
financial modeling and database will be considered an asset.

Salary
$2,596.42 to $3,403.56 bi-weekly (~$67,766.56 to $88,832.92 annually)
