Personal Statement

Alexandria Pearson

All my life I have wanted to be a teacher. According to my mother, I would sit
in my room with my chalk board teaching my younger sister to read and write, just
as I was learning to read and write. I wanted to share my knowledge with others
and I did this through teaching. While I have not been a teacher for very long, I
know that that I am passionate about what I do and want to be the best at what I do.
Shortly after beginning my teaching career, I saw a need in my school for strong
leadership both in the classroom and in the Hertford County Public School system. I
decided that was what I needed to focus on.
I believe that all students have the right to the best education available to
them and that often times many students are left out of the equation because so
many teachers are teaching to the middle. It is my goal to ensure that all students
receive a meaningful education and are pushed beyond what they are used to. In my
short time teaching, I have been included on many different school development
teams and have taught in tested-subject areas. Within the first semester of my
teaching experience, I was transitioned to the main campus to take the place of a
teacher who left mid-year. Not knowing the curriculum, I dove right in and was
determined to be the best teacher for my students. I wanted them to know that I
was there to help them succeed and that I would give 110% to them every day. By
my second year of teaching I had every class passing the US History end of course
test and had a pass rate of 100%.
It has been a goal of mine to have every student who crosses my path know
that I believe in him or her, that I am a believer of a high-quality education and
expect them to as well, and that I do not stop until my goal is reached. I also want
my students to know that I care about their well-being and want the see each
student for who they are and what they can become.
I am a Beta-club sponsor, Project-Unify sponsor, a part of the Common Core
and Essential Standards team, Data-Planning team, and I am the head teacher for
Hertford County Schools Alternative Learning Program. I take pride in being a
successful teacher and having successful students. In bettering myself through
schooling, I want my experiences and understandings to carry over to my students
and their experiences. I am of the belief, that if I expect my students to better
themselves and be life-long learners, I too need to do the same. It is my goal to
become the best teacher I can possibly be and to help all children see that they are
capable of becoming more than they imagined.
