SOUTH CENTRAL SCHOLARS FOUNDATION (SCS) Research & Evaluation Manager

Organization Background:
The South Central Scholars Foundation is a unique Los Angeles-based nonprofit with a proven replicable
model for positioning talented, underserved students in top universities so they achieve strong outcomes
after graduating from college. Our mission is to assist highly motivated students from disadvantaged
communities around Los Angeles to achieve academic and personal success in college and beyond
through financial scholarships, mentorships, career development, and more.

Reporting Relationships:
The Research & Evaluation Manager works under the supervision of the Executive Director and in
collaboration with our Program Coordinators, President of Student Services, Board Members, and Office
Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Data Collection: Develop and implement most efficient and effective way to collect data across
multiple programs including the Summer Academy, Career Development, Mentoring, and
Scholarship programs. We collect data on students from the moment they enter our program in high
school through all years of college and into graduate school and their career. The Research &
Evaluation Manager will regularly assess our collection methods and improve when necessary.
2. Database Administration and Infrastructure: Works in collaboration with SCS team to develop a
technological infrastructure for efficient data storage and retrieval using Salesforce.com. Responsible
for oversight of database and quality of data.
3. Data Analysis: analysis of multiple sources of data relevant to evaluation across various SCS
programs and services, for the purpose of monitoring the following:
Data quality metrics - responsible for consistency in data collection and reliability of data
inputs
Programmatic impact - analyzing student participation and performance in SCS programs,
using statistical software, such as SPSS, to interpret data (transcripts, test scores, surveys)
Quality of program services and effectiveness of service delivery
4. Reporting: Submit timely, high-quality reports that enable the Executive Director and Board of
Directors to make decisions and manage the organization more effectively.
5. Training: As Salesforce.com is modified over time, the Research & Evaluation Manager will develop
and conduct trainings for staff to understand new functions. (approximately four times per year)

Qualifications: Required
1. At least 3-5 years experience as well as advanced knowledge in program evaluation and research
methodology
2. Advanced knowledge of data analysis and evaluation design
3. Highly proficient in MS Office and creating tables, charts, and graphs with the ability to learn
new systems quickly
4. Strong familiarity with Salesforce.com or similar CRM software
5. Strong familiarity with SPSS, or similar statistical analysis
6. Experience designing and administering surveys
7. Experience maintaining computerized collection and tracking of survey data, as well as
integration of survey data with files generated from other databases
8. Ability to develop metrics that best evaluate our impact
9. Bachelors Degree required

Qualifications: Recommended
1. Knowledge and passion for issues facing higher education
2. Experience working with college students and young adults ages 16-25
3. Advanced degree in a related field
