OBJECT: Measuring the secondary voltage of an unloaded transformer as function of the
primary voltage for several ratios of windings between primary and secondary coil.
. !"#ET$ %OTE!:
1. Increase AC voltages on the transformer only gradually; do not apply higher voltages
directly.
2. Avoid overheating of the transformer.
3. Maximum permissible AC voltage per inding 1! " AC.

A transformer usually consists of to coils hich are inductively coupled by an iron core.
'ransformers are used to change the voltage amount of alternating currents. 'he fre)uency of the
voltage is not changed by the conversion. Input voltage is applied to *primary* coil+ hile the
output is measured across *secondary* coil. 'he alternating current in the primary coil induces an
alternating magnetic flux that *flos* around the ferromagnetic core. 'he alternating flux in the
core in turn induces an alternating current in the secondary coil. 'he output voltage of
transformer depends on the ratio of number of turns. i.e.
