Type of Computers

Desktop- A personal computer small enough to fit conveniently in an individual workspace

Laptop- A computer that is portable and suitable for use while traveling.

Netbook- a small laptop computer designed primarily for accessing Internet-based
applications.

Tablet- a writing pad.

Operating System

Operating System- The software that supports a computer's basic functions, such as scheduling tasks,
executing applications, and controlling peripherals.

Computer Parts
Motherboard- a printed circuit board containing the principal components of a computer
or other device, with connectors into which other circuit boards can be slotted.

CPU-i s the abbreviation for central processing unit. The CPU is the brains of the computer where
most calculations take place.

RAM- is an acronym for random access memory and is the most common type of memory found in
computers and other devices

Hard Drive- a high-capacity, self-contained storage device containing a read-write
mechanism plus one or more hard disks, inside a sealed unit. Also called hard disk drive.

Solid-state Drive- is a data storage device using integrated circuit assemblies as memory to store
data persistently.

Magnetic Drive- Memory device such as a floppy disk

Expansion slot- a place in a computer where an expansion card can be inserted.

Network card- is a computer hardware component that connects a computer to a computer network.

Audio card- A sound card is an internal computer expansion card that facilitates the input and output
of audio signals to and from a computer under control of computer programs.
Graphic card- A video card is an expansion card which generates a feed of output images to a display.
