Banana Smoothie ( Baby and Toddler Recipe)

Bananas are a very baby friendly fruit and one of the very few that babies can eat raw. Bananas
when combined with curds and orange juice in this velvety concoction provide your baby with
energy, carbohydrates, iron, calcium, vitamin a and vitamin c.
Ingredients

1/2 cup banana , chopped
1 tsp curds (dahi)
2 tbsp orange juice
Method
1.

Combine all the ingredients in a blender and liquidise into a smooth pure. Serve immediately.
Tips
1. All the ingredients for this drink should be at room temperature.

Corn Sambar

A quicker version of sambar thats also a variation of the traditional recipe. Grated corn is
tempered with mild curry powder. This dish is good with steamed rice or uttapas. Curry powder is
a blend of spices that is available at most grocery stores stores. While cooking for your baby,
choose the mildest variety of curry powder available
Ingredients
1/4 cup sweet corn kernels (makai ke dane) , grated
1 tbsp onions , chopped
1/4 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
a pinch asafoetida (hing)
1/4 cup tomatoes , chopped
1/2 tsp mild curry powder
1/2 tsp ghee
salt to taste
Method
1.

Heat the ghee and add the cumin seeds. When they crackle, add the asafetida.
2.

Add the onion and saut for 2 to 3 minutes.
3.

Add the tomato, corn and curry powder and saut for another 4 to 5 minutes.
4.

Add 1 cup of water and bring to a boil.
5.

Add salt and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
6.

Serve lukewarm.

Dal and Vegetable Soup ( Baby and Toddler
Recipe)

This colourful soup is a good way to combine dal and vegetables, giving your little one protein
from dal and iron, calcium, folic acid, vitamin a and fibre from vegetables. Serve it with whole
wheat bread sticks and watch your baby dip them into the soup and munch them with relish.
Ingredients
1 tbsp green moong dal (split green gram) , washed and drained
1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage
1 tbsp chopped spinach (palak)
salt to taste

For The Garnish
1 tbsp crumbled paneer (cottage cheese)

For Serving
whole wheat bread sticks
Method
1.

Combine all the ingredients along with 1 cup of water in a pressure cooker and pressure cook for 2
to 3 whistles.
2.

Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid. Keep aside to cool slightly.
3.

When cooled, blend it in a blender till smooth pure.
4.

Transfer the pure into a broad non-stick pan and add the salt. Mix well and bring to a boil.
5.

Garnish with paneer and serve lukewarm with whole wheat bread sticks.
Tips
1. If cow pea leaves are not available, you can use spinach instead. If your baby likes cheese, you
can also add half slice of cheese to this soup.

Fruits with Custard ( Baby and Toddler Recipe)

Ingredients

2 tbsp mixed chopped fresh fruits

For The Custard
1/2 cup milk
1 digestive biscuit , crushed
1 tsp sugar
Method
1.

Bring the milk and sugar to a boil and add the biscuit. Allow it to mix with the milk so that the milk
thickens. Mix well so that the custard does not have any lumps.
2.

Cool completely and add the fruits. Serve immediately.

Soya and Vegetable Pulao ( Baby and Toddler
Recipe)

A vegetarian diet is deficient in vitamin b12 and soya is the only vegetarian food source that is rich
in this vitamin. This nourishing pulao has a lot of flavours that will probably be new to your baby.
Serve it with curds or dal to mellow down the flavours so that she can adjust to these new
additions to her meals.
Ingredients

1/4 cup rice (chawal) , washed
1/4 cup soya granules
1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
a pinch of asafoetida (hing)
1 small stick of cinnamon (dalchini)
1 cardamom (elaichi)
1/4 cup onions , chopped
1/4 cup carrot , peeled and chopped
1/4 cup green peas
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
1 tsp coriander-cumin seeds (dhania-jeera) powder
1 tsp ghee
salt to taste

For The Garnish
1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
Method
1.

Boil the soya granules in 1 cup of water till they are soft. Keep aside.
2.

Heat the ghee in a pan and add the cumin seeds, cinnamon and cardamom. When the cumin seeds
crackle, add the asafoetida and onions and saut for 2 to 3 minutes.
3.

Add the carrots, peas, rice and soya granules and saut for another 2 minutes.
4.

Add the turmeric powder, coriander-cumin seed powder and salt and mix well.
5.

Add 1 cup of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Mix well.
6.

Garnish with the coriander. Serve lukewarm with curds or raita.
Tips
1. If the soya granules are hard to find, use 4 to 5 soya nuggets. Boil them first and then chop them
finely.

Spring Vegetable Risotto ( Baby and Toddler
Recipe)

Ingredients

2 tbsp rice (chawal) , washed
2 tbsp carrot , grated
1 tbsp broccoli , chopped
1 tbsp french beans , chopped
2 tbsp spring onions , chopped
1 tbsp onions , chopped
1 clove of garlic (lehsun) , grated
1 tsp butter
1 1/2 tbsp grated processed cheese
salt to taste
Method
1.

Heat the butter in a pan, add the onions and garlic and saute for 2 to 3 minutes.
2.

Add the rice with 3/4 cup of water and allow it to cook till the rice is done.
3.

Add the carrots, broccoli, spring onions, french beans and cup of water and cook till the
vegetables are soft.
4.

Add the cheese and salt and mix well.
5.

Mash it to the consistency your baby likes. Serve lukewarm.

Apple Vegetable Soup

this soup is an excellent soup for babies who have started on solids (8 months onwards)
Ingredients
1 apple , deseeded , peeled and diced
1 medium sized carrot , peeled and diced
1/2 potato , peeled and diced
1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
salt to taste
2 cm stick of cinnamon (dalchini)
Method
1.

Combine all the ingredients in a pressure cooker.
2.

Add 2 cups of water mix well and pressure cook on high flame for 4 whistles.
3.

Allow the steam to escape, before opening the lid.
4.

Remove the cinnamon stick
5.

Blend the mixer till the required consistency.
6.

Heat the pan and pour the soup and simmer for 5 minutes.
7.

Serve hot.
8.

Optional: You can add a pinch of cumin seeds powder if necessary.

Easy Rice Pudding Recipe

Ingredients
5 cups chilled water
1 cup rice (chawal)
400 gms condensed milk
Method
1.

Boil the water and rice together on medium heat stir regularly so it doesn't stick.
2.

The rice will start to break you may need to add more water make sure you use cold water.
3.

Once the rice is broken add the condensed milk and stir vigorously until thick.
4.

Note the rice pudding will get thicker as it cools so when you serve if its too thick add a little milk.
5.

Enjoy hot or cold.
