Located below the title bar of the Game Maker window. It contains commands and menus that can help you during game making. The contents of this bar changes depending on the mode you use. SIMPLE MODE ADVANCED MODE
SIMPLE MODE
New - Choose this command to start creating a new game. If the current game was changed you are asked whether you want to save it. There is also a toolbar button for this.
Open - Opens a game file. Game Maker files have the extension .gmk. You can also open old .gm6 files. There is a toolbar button for this command. You can also open a game by dragging the file into the Game Maker window.
Recent Files - Use this submenu to reopen game files you recently opened.
Save - Saves the game design file under its current name. If no name was specified before, you are asked for a new name. You can only use this command when the file was changed. Again, there is a toolbar button for this.
Save As - Saves the game design file under a different name. You are asked for a new name.
Create Executable - Once your game is ready you will probably want to give it to others to play. Using this command you can create a stand- alone version of your game. This is simply an executable that you can give to other people to run.
Advanced Mode - When clicking on this command Game Maker will switch between simple and advanced mode. In advanced mode additional commands and resources are available.
Exit - Probably obvious. Press this to exit Game Maker. If you changed the current game you will be asked whether you want to save it.
ADVANCED MODE
Advanced Mode has the same set of commands like in the simple mode but it has more additional commands to choose from.
Publish Your Games It allows you to publish your game in the official site of Game Maker: http://gm.yoyogames.com/publish.php
Import Resources Allows you to open old versions of game maker files.
Export Resources Allows you to save your games into old version of game maker file.
Preferences Allows you to edit the properties of your games during RUN MODE.

4 The File Menu contains usual commands to load and save files just like the others, the difference is it has some unique commands especially made for Game Maker. The contents of this menu changes depends on the mode that you use.
SIMPLE MODE
Insert - Inserts a new instance of the currently selected type of resource before the current one. A form will open in which you can change the properties of the resource
Duplicate - Makes a copy of the current resource and adds it. A form is opened in which you can change the resource.
Delete - Deletes the currently selected resource (or group of resources). Be careful. This cannot be undone. You will, though, be warned.
Rename - Gives the resource a new name. This can also be done in the property form for the resource. Also, you can select the resource and then click on the name.
Properties - Use this command to bring up the form to edit the properties. Note that all the property forms appear within the main form. You can edit many of them at the same time. You can also edit the properties by double clicking on the resource.

Create Group Creates a folder where you can sort all of your sprites according to your usage.
Find Resource Search for a resource (it can be a sprite, object, background, etc.) inside the RESOURCE EXPLORER.
Expand Resources Reveal all resources inside the RESOURCE EXPLORER.
Collapse Resources Hide all resources into their respective folders / group inside the RESOURCE EXPLORER.
Show Object Information Show the information of all objects (like the sprite used, its events, etc.)

5 The edit menu contains a number of commands that relate to the currently selected resource (object, sprite, sound, etc.). Depending on the type of resource some of the commands may not be visible. The contents of this menu also changes depends on the mode that you use.
SIMPLE MODE
Create Sprite Allows you to insert a sprite inside the resource explorer. You can use this sprite for your objects.
Create Sound Allows you to insert a sound inside the resource explorer. You can use this sounds for your game like background music and more.
Create Background Allows you to insert pictures inside the resource explorer. You can use this picture for your background image and tiles.
Create Object Allows you to create an object for your game. These objects can be either solid or visible. You can even put some events on it.
Create Room Allows you to create a room for your game. You cant run the game without a single room.
Change Game Information Allows you to put some information about your game like instructions or information about yourself.
Change Global Settings Change the Graphics, Loading State and the Behavior of your game during run time.

Create Path Allows you to create a specific path for your object.
Create Script Allows you to insert some codes for your game.
Create Font Allows you to create a font style.
Create Time Line Allows you to create a time frame.
Select Extension Packages Allows you to add packages from the extension packages.
Define Constants Allows you to have user-define constants.
Define Triggers Allows you to add triggers.
Include Files Allows you to add files to include in the stand-alone executable.
ADVANCED MODE 6 In this menu, you can create new resources of each of the different types. Note that for each of them there is also a button on the toolbar and a keyboard shortcut. Also you can change the game information and the global game settings. The contents of this menu also changes depends on the mode that you use.
7 This menu is used to run the game. There are two ways to run a game. Once your game is finished, you can create a stand-alone executable of the game using the command in the file menu. RUN NORMALLY
Runs the game as it would normally run. The game is run in the most efficient way and will look and act as in an executable game. RUN IN DEBUG MODE
Runs the game in debug mode. In this mode you can check certain aspects of the game and you can pause and step through it. This is useful when something goes wrong but is a bit advanced. In this menu you find some of the usual commands to manage the different property windows in the main form:
Cascade - Cascade all the windows such that each of them is partially visible.
Arrange Icons - Arrange all the iconified property windows. (Useful in particular when resizing the main form.)
Close All - Close all the property windows, asking the user whether or not to save the changes made.
SIMPLE MODE Contents - Use this command to show the help file.
Tutorials - Use this submenu to show the different tutorials that are provided with Game Maker to teach you how to make your first games.
News - Here you can see the most recent news about Game Maker.
Book - This command will bring you to a location on the website where you can find information about the Game Maker book.
More Tutorials - This command will bring you to a location on the website where you can download some more tutorials.
Website - Connects you to the Game Maker website where you can find information about the most recent version of Game Maker and collections of games and resources for Game Maker.
Forum - This command will bring you to the forum where users help each other with many aspects of Game Maker.
Wiki - This command will bring you to the Game Maker wiki where you can find plenty of information about the use of Game Maker.
About Game Maker - Gives some short information about this version of Game Maker.

Extension Packages Allows you to add packages from the extension packages.

8 Here you find some commands to help you. It has one additional command when in Advanced Mode.
9 You can only see this menu when you are in Advanced Mode. It is located between the Resources Menu and the Run Menu. This menu allows you to view all available scripts in Game Maker. Import Scripts Add other scripts from other files or older Game Maker software.
Export Scripts Save your own created scripts to other files or older Game Maker Software.
Show Built-in Variables Show all variables that are available in the Game Maker.
Show Built-in Functions - Show all functions that are available in the Game Maker.
Show Extension Functions - Show all extension functions that are available in the Game Maker.
Show Constants - Show all constants that are available in the Game Maker.
Show Resources Names Show all the names of the resources.
Search All Scripts Search for a particular script that is available in the Game Maker.
Check Resource Names Check if there is a conflict between the names of every resource.
Check All Scripts - Check if there is a conflict in all scripts.
