Discuss what you learned, its importance to you, what improvement you can make: How to measure: Heart rate Blood pressure Respiration rate Temperature Pain It is important for me to know how to take blood pressure because I am often responsible for my grandmothers health while my family is busy. While in my care, I hold the task of taking her blood pressure manually, in order to do this I need to know her systolic and diastolic pressures, in order to treat her with her medication. An improvement I can make would be for clinics to accurately take blood pressure, in order to prescribe the right dosage of medication for the right period of time. Work Sample Reflection Sheet

Explain the purpose for including the item: The skeletal system protects the body's vital organs (brain, heart and lungs) and provides the body with shape. We are only able to move due to the presence of a skeletal system. It is important to know the bones and the types of injuries that can happen.
Discuss what you learned, its importance to you, what improvement you can make: I learned about all types of injuries that can affect the bones in our systems. It is important to know this piece of critical information in order to properly treat and injury to any bone in the body. An improvement that I can make would be the techniques and materials that are used during care of these injuries. Such as casts; inventing a material that is waterproof, that way the struggle of wrapping it wouldnt be such a problem.

Explain the purpose for including the item: Knowing about vision and the problems that can affect eyesight is something to be aware of in order to maintain the health of eyesight.
Discuss what you learned, its importance to you, what improvement you can make: I learned about: Extra ocular eye muscles (EOM). For example, EOM intact means the muscles of the eyes that control the movement work right. Nystagmus: the jumping of the eyeball. This would be detected in a drunk person. Cataract (opaque lens; disk shaped) has a cloudy affect, usually found in elderly people and premature babies. Pterygium: a non-cancerous that starts in the clear, thin tissue (conjunctiva) of the eye. Blown pupil: asymmetric pupil size, due to: head inury, cerebral bleed, or hemorrhage. Dilated pupils: symmetric, this is a classic sign of drug use. It is important to know about these changes in vision in order to correctly diagnose and treat a patient. An improvement that can be made would be to notice these signs in the early stages in order to treat the problem from enlarging.

Explain the purpose for including the item: To prevent the spread of disease from one individual to another
Discuss what you learned, its importance to you, what improvement you can make: I learned that in order for an infection to develop, each link of the chain must be connected. Breaking any link of the chain can stop the transmission of infection.
It is important to know chain of infection, because we can stop the spread of pathogens by washing our hands and wearing personal protective equipment. An improvement that can be made would be to inform the public about the chain of infection and how to prevent it. Such as: providing classrooms with hand sanitizer along with posters in the restrooms about effective hand washing.

Explain the purpose for including the item: Hand washing is by far the best way to prevent germs from spreading and to keep from getting sick.
Discuss what you learned, its importance to you, what improvement you can make: How to wash hands, effectively and prevent the spread of infection. It is important to have knowledge of effective hand washing techniques in order to keep from spreading germs. Working in a health care setting requires cleanliness, so it important to know how much soap to use and to lather for how long in order to kill off any bacteria. Improvements that could be made in hand washing would be to offer the general public pamphlets about effective techniques along with the dangers that could come with not washing hands, and how germs are spread.
