It hadnt been a pleasant few days for Konohamaru, following his ill encounter with Kurenai and Sayuri.

He had surrendered himself to the gentle stupor of sake to allay his discomfiture at the possible
severance of ties between him and Kurenais little daughter. It hurt more than he cared to admit. Each
night he was taunted with visions of bitter green eyes and betrayed red ones, all mixed over with gleeful
high cold laughter. Each morning he woke up mentally and physically exhausted. Each morning he would
resolve to march straight to Kurenais house and prostrate himself at her feet till she forgave him, but at
the last moment his nerves would fail him. The grim atmosphere didnt help matters any.
The days following Tentens death had been cloudy with sporadic rains. The winds would lash out
sharply, knocking the branches against windows with a steady crack, each crash loud enough to rouse
the dead. The courtyard of Sarutobi Mansion was awash with decayed fallen leaves which protested
loudly when stepped upon by the melancholy young Jounin. The leaves seemed to accuse him too, in
their crinkled whispers. Traitor, oath-breaker the leaves seemed to call, and Konohamaru could
merely bow his head and agree.
The days were long and the nights longer. The day after the incident with Kurenai was the wake and
final ceremony for Tenten. They were all there: a somber looking Gai, flanked by his protg Lee and old
teammate Genma. Jiraiya, the Toad Sage, walking tall though supported by an ornate cane to
compensate for his long years. Next were Inuzuka Kiba and his partner Akamaru, not displaying their
usual exuberance, followed by an equally grim Sasuke who was dressed in his usual black. Sakura had
hurried in with her friend Ino, both still dressed in Medic uniforms. Shikamaru and Temari had sent
flowers for remembrance, seeing as they were out on a diplomatic mission. Kakashi dropped in
unexpectedly to offer a few words of comfort to Gai before fading away in the background. Last to
arrive were Hinata and Naruto who presided over the burial ceremony.
Tentens corpse had already undergone the traditional rites given to a warrior. As she had no extant
family, the cost of funeral and the burial ceremony were borne by Lee and Gai. It was with solemn steps
that the reliquary containing her ashes was reverently placed in the grave by Lee, who bowed down,
muttering a few prayers of gratitude and grief. With that, the mourners formed a loose circle,
instinctively leaving the places held by their now departed comrades. Never had the absence of the
quiet Shino or the ever reliable Chouji felt so keenly as it did now. Sighing, Naruto had bent down and
scooped up some dirt and then let it fall on the open grave. Soon, the others followed suit, performing
the last labor of love for their fallen friend.
