Cherokee Nation and Cherokee
Nation Businesses were named
finalists in the following cate-
gories: Annual Report, External
Publication, Online Newsroom
and Public/Governmental/Civic.
Were fortunate to have
remarkably talented people work-
ing hard every day to tell the
story of the Cherokee Nation and
our people, said Amanda Clin-
ton, director of communications
for Cherokee Nation and CNB.
We know our jobs are important
in keeping Cherokees informed
of the activities of their govern-
ment, and we take that job very
seriously. Its also been a tremen-
dous help to have the support
of our leadership in allowing us
to think outside the box and try
new things. It truly is a team
effort, and we couldnt be more
proud of this recognition.
About the entries
In the Annual Report catego-
ry, CNB is a finalist for Proud
Partner of Oklahoma, a report
telling the story of the tribes
$1.3 billion economic impact on
northeast Oklahoma. The report
illustrates the impact on local
businesses and individuals, both
Cherokee and non-citizens. It is
up against six other finalists,
including Tiger Woods Founda-
tion and Coca-Cola de Mexico.
The report can be found at www.
CherokeeNationImpact.com.
Where the Casino Money
Goes is a finalist for External
Publication. It is published three
times per year in the Cherokee
Phoenix newspaper, distributed
at more than a dozen Cherokee
Nation health centers and other
locations, and posted online at
www.WhereTheCasinoMoney-
Goes.com. The publication clear-
ly and concisely details how casi-
no profits are spent and shares
individual stories about how
casino profits impact the lives of
Cherokee citizens. Other finalists
include the Federal Reserve Bank
of Dallas.
In the Online Newsroom cat-
egory, Anadisgoi.com is a finalist,
competing against online news-
rooms such as Coca-Cola Jour-
ney (206 for The Coca-Cola Com-
pany), NissanNews.com (Wieck
for Nissan Americas), Adidas
NEWS STREAM (The News Mar-
ket for Adidas) and four other
organizations. Anadisgoi [pro-
nounced AH-na-dee-sko] is the
Cherokee word for news.
The site is the Cherokee
Nations official online newsroom
and heavily incorporates social
media elements. It serves as a
gateway to both media and news
consumers, providing download-
able photos, video, documents
and graphics. Launched just over
a year ago, its the first time all
Cherokee Nation news has exist-
ed in one location, ranging from
government services to cultural
activities, to business news and
more. The site can be accessed at
www.Anadisgoi.com.
The Cherokee Nations
announcement of a more than
$100 million health care invest-
ment in tribal infrastructure is a
finalist in the Public/Governmen-
tal/Civic category. The live event
combined traditional media,
social media, graphics, and audio
and video elements to unveil the
details of a $100 million appro-
priation of funds from the tribes
casinos and other businesses to
revamp Cherokee Nations health
care system. Using infograph-
ics, patient testimonials and a
social media campaign, construc-
tion plans were revealed for four
new health centers and a new
hospital.
Construction is currently
underway at those facilities in
Jay, Sallisaw, Stilwell and Oche-
lata. Hospital construction in
Tahlequah is slated to begin
later this year. Other finalists
in the category include Dallas-
Fort Worth International Airport
and the New Jersey Development
Authority.
Winners will be announced
within the next two weeks. The
Cherokee Nation has one previ-
ous PR Daily win under its belt.
Where the Casino Money Goes
received top honors for External
Publication in 2012. Cherokee
Nation is the first and only tribe
to ever receive such an honor.

AT&T names Steve
Hahn president of
AT&T Oklahoma
AT&T this week announced that Steve Hahn
has been named president of AT&T Oklahoma.
Hahn most recently served as president of
AT&T Kansas.
As president of AT&T Oklahoma, Hahn will
oversee the companys local, state and federal
government relations efforts in the state, in
addition to working closely with community
and business leaders, elected officials and oth-
ers at AT&T to continue to bring advanced
communications technologies, including 4G
LTE and other broadband services, to consum-
ers and businesses.
I am honored to join a tremendous AT&T
team here in the Sooner State, said Hahn. I
look forward to helping continue our legacy of
investment, job creation, innovation and com-
munity engagement across Oklahoma.
Hahn has held numerous, key leadership
positions at AT&T. Prior to serving in his
most recent role as president of AT&T Kan-
sas, he served as Director of External Affairs
at AT&Ts corporate headquarters in Dallas
where he played a key role in the deployment of
AT&Ts award-winning U-verse TV service in 22
states. Prior to that assignment, Hahn led the
3-Screen Operations team in AT&T Entertain-
ment Services where he directed the first initia-
tives to deliver on the companys commitment
to offer compelling content across 3 screens
televisions, computers and wireless devices.
Hahn is a graduate of University of Texas at
Austin and earned his M.B.A. from Texas A&M
University. He is married to Julie Hahn and
they have three sons. He is an avid outdoors-
man and enjoys golf, soccer, tennis, hunting
and fishing. Hahns appointment is effective
immediately and he will have an office in Okla-
homa City.
Consumer spending falls for 1st time
in a year as income growth slows
WASHINGTON Americans
surprisingly spent less in April,
the first monthly drop in a year
and a potentially worrisome sign
for an economic rebound after a
slow winter.
Consumer spending was down
$8.1 billion, or 0.1 percent, last
month, the Commerce Depart-
ment said Friday.
The decrease came after strong
spending growth in March,
revised up slightly Friday to a 1
percent gain. That was the best
performance since August 2009.
Economists did not expect
consumers to keep up the March
pace. But forecasts still called for
spending to grow by 0.2 percent
last month.
Part of the reason for the
decline, the first since a 0.2 per-
cent drop in April 2013, could
be that personal income growth
was down. Incomes rose 0.3 per-
cent compared to a 0.5 percent
increase in March.
While consumers spent less in
April, they saved more. The sav-
ings rate increased to 4 percent
from 3.6 percent in March.
A key measure of inflation
showed prices rose 0.2 per-
cent last month, the same as in
March. But for the previous 12
months, the measure was up 1.6
percent, the most since Novem-
ber 2012.
The annual figure is nearing
the Federal Reserves target for 2
percent price growth.
Consumer spending accounts
for about 2/3 of U.S. econom-
ic activity. And despite severe
weather in much of the country,
consumers mostly kept opening
their wallets during the winter.
Spending increased 3.1 per-
cent from January through
March, down from 3.3 percent in
the fourth quarter.
