Introduction7
The compan$ which we choose for our ,omputer Applications for .usiness / is
FedEx. Reason behind it was that, it is a (ultinational ,orporation, doing business overall the
globe. And it has implemented the ERP !Read% Enterprise Recourse Planning# in the mid0123s
FedEx Corporation originall$ known as F'4 ,orporation is a logistics services compan$,
based in the 5nited "tates with head6uarters in (emphis, Tennessee. The name 7FedEx7 is a
s$llabic abbreviation of the name of the compan$8s original air division, Federal Express, which
was used from /19: until ;222
Enterprise Recourse Planning (ERP) s$stem is an integrated computer0based application used
to manage internal and external resources. <ts main purpose is to regulate the flow of information
between all the business functions inside the organi)ation and manage a stable connection with
the outside stakeholders. ERP is built on a centrali)ed database and normall$ utili)ing a common
computing platform, ERP s$stems consolidate all business operations into a uniform and
enterprise0wide s$stem environment. ERP is an amalgamation of three most important
components= Business Management Practices, Information Technolog and !pecific
Business "#$ecti%es&
!ed"x7 'he start2
As FedEx is a logistic service compan$, it thinks highl$ about its costumers !individual
and businesses# and wishes to give them the maximum satisfaction through their services. FedEx
provides its worldwide costumers with a wide portfolio of transportation, e0commerce and
business services. .efore implementing the ERP s$stem, it was extremel$ hard as well as timel$
and costl$, as the$ had to track the documents ! or an$thing# through keeping in touch with
FA4, telephone calls, etc. but since the implementation of ERP s$stem , all this was done in an
easier wa$, and their services were improved at an extreme length.
Federal Express reali)ed earl$ on that for a speed0hungr$ world, information about
package deliver$ was as important as the deliver$ itself. "o, it pioneered the use of bar0code
technolog$, put computers in deliver$ vans and shared its software with customers. <n doing so,
the compan$ turned package tracking into a high art and gave new meaning to the term
7customer service7 b$ empowering customers to serve themselves. -iving customers access to
FedEx information s$stems raised performance and lowered costs on both sides.

8ow !ed"x introduced erp +sap.
Federal Express sees its biggest e0commerce opportunit$ in linking its shipping software
to corporate enterprise resource planning >ERP? s$stems, rather than in delivering documents
electronicall$. FedEx announced an upgrade to its @eb site which lets customers themselves
arrange to ship packages online in AB nations instead of Cust shipping within the 5nited "tates.
FedEx has enabled online tracking for some time. The site lets customers conduct business in
four different languages, which mainl$ include *apanese, "panish, French, or English.
FedEx has now imposed technolog$ with its logistics and services which has given them
an upper hand in the competitive market. FedEx has announced agreements with ERP giant "AP
and e0commerce vendor <nterworld to build links to its online tracking site into their software.
As a part of this alliance, FedEx is delivering a new shipping and tracking application designed
specificall$ to provide RD: users with real time package lifec$cle information. "AP has worked
closel$ with FedEx to develop a certified interface providing "AP and FedEx customer with a
full$ integrated suppl$ chain solution.
The compan$ hopes that through both its @eb site and proprietar$ P, software for customers, it
will be able to move all order0taking and tracking online, reducing the compan$8s costs.
FedEx still delivers a lot of documents, however, and has been slow to move into electronic
deliver$, as compared to its competitor !5P"# , but once it started it didn3t take them much long
to get back in the race.
!ed"x tracking system7
FedEx implemented its tracking service with which the costumers can locate the position
of their document at their own convenience. This is done b$ logging onto the website and
entering the code ! which is actuall$ the receipt number given to the costumer#, through which
the$ can easil$ locate their document, etc that from where have the$ left, at what location the$
are, and at what time it reaches to the end person. @ith FedEx Tracking, the costumers have
maximum visibilit$ into their shipments3 status. The$ can customi)e their tracking results page,
organi)e their shipments in the wa$ the$ want, easil$ send and receive e0mail notifications, and
even save time with the streamlined "ignature Proof of 'eliver$ re6uest process. FedEx
Tracking can remember the tracking numbers $ou3ve entered, so it3s even easier and faster to
look them up.
8ow does it help the costumers7
