Why u want to work for suncorp?

This is not only an exceptional opportunity that the Suncorp systems engineering graduate
program is offering, but this company is a place where my qualifications and skills gained
from university can really make a difference for the company and hopefully the world. I have
heard that Suncorps information technology engineering division are really passionate in
their line of work, I absolutely strongly believe that I also belong there and ultimately will
make an impact.
Why Systems Engineering?
Ive always liked computers ever since the age of !" where Ive received my first computer.
Therefore I am completely cra#y about computers thus I found myself studying information
technology in high school. It surprisingly became my favourite sub$ect since I found myself
to start the assignment right away and its priority ahead of my other high school sub$ects.
Then when i finished high school it wasnt a hard decision at all that I found myself to be
studying computer systems engineering. In university Ive always been concerned about the
big picture of pro$ects along with making sure that the technical aspects of the pro$ect were
up to par along with the requirements, this is why systems engineering position is the perfect
fit for me, Im surprised I wasnt born with a keyboard in my hand %&%.
Have you applied anywhere else?
'onestly I have, I have applied to a software engineering position at (eppesen )ustralia and
I*+. )lthough honestly this systems engineering position is my absolute first preference
due to the location and what Suncorp is looking for in a graduate systems engineer.
What is suncorp looking for then?
)ccording to the $ob description an individual with excellent communication and
interpersonal skills, a progressive attitude, and a strong customer focus. )lso will need have
excellent analytical and research skills and pro$ect skills which I have gained from my
computer security ,-. pro$ect and obviously an individual that absolutely loves I.T along
with the rest of the suncorp team.
Describe a time when one of ur group members was not doing his/her share and what
did u do?
This is during one of my /
rd
year pro$ects, where a specific member in my team did not
perform as was requested by myself and the rest of the group. I immediately sat down with
him to address as to why he wasnt handing in a satisfactory amount of work by this time
frame, he then stated that he wasnt clear on what was needed. Thus a couple of members
and myself sat down with him and helped him through the process of his duties, he then was
thankful for our time and his level of understanding increased significantly. )fter that I found
that he became more enthusiastic about his work and had met future deadlines with ease,
my technique here is to address the issue immediately to allow adequate time to properly
diagnose the issue when it comes to team work.
describe a time when u came up with an innovative solution to a problem?
.uring my computer security pro$ect, I had noticed that there was a flaw in the algorithm
within the computer security system. The flaw was a repetition of patterns within the system,
the solution that I came up with was to send the hacker running around in circles by making
the hacker think there was a pattern, while in reality the pattern would solve no purpose for
the hacker. The approach I used was to think really low level and think what I would look for
if i was a hacker.
what is your ideal work environment like?
I do en$oy a quiet period to myself from time to time along with an office with open doors,
which allows me to get constant feedback from other members and lots of energy and
activity. It helps me work more productively when I sense how busy everyone else is too.
what is ur biggest strength?
+y biggest strength would have to be interpersonal skills, I found that I have a gift when it
comes to communicating and getting along with other team members and generally other
people regardless of culture, background and interests. I tend to encourage them when
theyre having trouble with their work and try to bring out the absolute best in them. Thus a
$ob description that requires heavy corporation within a team environment definitely suits this
strength trait that I possess.
what are your short term and long term goals?
I hope to be working with an employer in a position that has more responsibility, which
enables me to utili#e my talents and work closely with my teammates in solving important
issues and problems. I see myself as taking on new exciting challenges in a friendly
environment and hopefully this will be with Suncorp.
what skills you want to improve at suncorp?
The skills that I see will definitely improve at Suncorp would be pretty much the experience
and exposure to industry pro$ect work. The entire software development process and along
with technologies and platforms which Suncorp will be giving me an exposure to a lot more
programming languages, research and analytical skills and of course the big picture and
technical aspects of the pro$ect along with even better team work communication skills.
Describe a situation where you had to use team leadership skills to address a conflict.
.uring my professional gaming days, there was a time in the semi finals where there would
be a conflict between two members out of a total of five members. The conflict would
involve two individuals presenting as to why their strategy would be better at this stage and
point in time. )s team leader it was my obligation to ultimately make a decision. +y solution
was to allow both people to present their cases as to why their strategy was better than the
other then myself and the remaining members in my team would choose the appropriate
action needed to be taken. &riginally tho myself and the other remaining members would be
in favour of person )s strategy, however I have let both parties presented their cases and
surprisingly in the end we went along with person *s strategy. 0e had overlooked the
hidden strength behind person *s strategy, thus i was convinced I had made the right
decision in letting both parties plead their case. I strongly believe this was the right move
because doing it this way allows us to see the hidden strength and weaknesses that has yet
to be discovered, which evidentially was the case in this situation.
echnical Skills
1, 122, 1Sharp, (ava, 3*, S4%. 3arious program implementations on microcontrollers
utilising the linux platform. 3ery familiar and in favour of utili#ing agile methods in pro$ects. I
also have various industry teamwork skills and have an idea on how certain pro$ect stages
work in industry such as the design and planning stages, testing stages and presentation
stages.
describe a time when you were doing something and had to change your line of work
and how did u cope with it
5irst of all I start by trying to imagine the worst possible outcome6 then I back up and identify
precautions I can take to avoid that scenario.
)lthough there was a time when I had allowed myself sufficient amount of time to complete
only my own work but that changed real fast when I had discovered my teammate 7group of
89 was involved in a horrific car accident. Thus I had to change my line of work to
accommodate his as well as my own. I coped by taking the liberty to step up to the plate
and was prepared to take on the additional work. The reason why I did this was cause I am
!::; sure that he would have done the same for me.
There would be a scenario where during my computer security pro$ect, we had went about in
designing the algorithm all wrong thus set us back in cost due to time and resources already
allocated to us. I had coped by working overtime by addressing this issue along with my
teammates doing more solid research and testing to ensure that this mishap would not
happen again.
