She was the second daughter of Mr. Bennet, and also his favourite daughter. She was the
most intelligent and sensible of the five Bennet sisters. She was clever at using words and
enjoyed studying peoples character. At first she really disliked Darcy, but she eventually fell
in love with him.

Fitzwilliam Darcy
He was a tall, handsome man with a noble appearance. He was intelligent, generous,
thoughtful, and honest, but his excess of pride caused him to look down on his poor
neighbours. At the end, he reduced his high-pride then started to fall in love with Elizabeth.

Charles Bingley
He was a wealthy man, who purchased an estate in Netherfield, and later fell in love with
Jane Bennet. He had an agreeable expression and easy, natural friendliness. He was easily
influenced by others, especially his bet-friend, Darcy.

Jane Bennet
She was the oldest and the most beautiful Bennet sisters. She was gentle and kind-hearted
that Elizabeth trust and love her so much. She was a kind of young woman who was not able to
easily reveal her feeling, which made some difficulty in her relationship with Bingley.

Mr. Bennet
He was the patriarch of the Bennets family. He was unhappily married that he was being
sarcastic toward her wife. He had failed to provide a secure financial future for his wife and
daughters.

Mrs. Bennet
She was a foolish, noisy woman who was obsessed with finding wealthy husbands for her
daughters.

Lydia Bennet
She was the youngest Bennet sisters. She was gossipy, immature, and irresponsible. She
flung herself into romance and ended up running off with Wickham.

George Wickham
He was a handsome and personable fortune hunter, whose charm attracted Elizabeth. He lied
about his past to everyone, including Elizabeth, and he told her that Darcy made him lack of
money.

Miss Bingley
She was Bingleys sister. She was shallow and slick. She didnt want Jane became a wife for
Bingley because of her mother's lower status. She attempted to attract Darcys attention and
was jealous to Elizabeth.



Mr. Collins
Mr. Bennets cousin, who would inherit Longburn after Mr. Bennets death. He wanted to
marry one of Mr. Bennets daughters. He was a clergyman who worked for Lady Catherine de
Bourgh.

Charlotte Lucas
She was Elizabeths close friend. She was interested in having a comfortable home because
she realized about her condition. So, when Mr. Collin proposed her, she accepted.

Lady Catherine de Bourogh
She was Darcys aunt, who wanted him to marry her daughter. She was bossy and dominated
toward Mr. Collins.

Mr. and Mrs. Hurst
They were Bingleys sister and brother-in-law.

Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner
They were Elizabeth kind uncle and aunt. They were very concern to their relatives.


Setting : Setting of time : The story begins in the autumn of 1811
Setting of place : Netherfield and Longburn, a rural area of
Hertfordshire; Rosins, Kent; and London.


Plot Summary :

The Netehrfield estate was purchased by Charles Bingley, and it made the neighbourhood
were so excited, especially Mrs. Bennet. She hoped that one of her daughters could marry him. Mr.
Bingley then arranged a ball so that he could introduce himself and his family, Miss Bennet, Mr. and
Mrs. Hurst, and Mr. Darcy, his best-friend. At the ball the neighbours were impresses by Mr.
Bingleys easy-going personality, but they were less impressed by Mr. Darcy. Mr. Bingley danced all
night, and seemed to get attached to each other.

Unfortunately, Mr. Bingley and Janes relationship was opposed by Miss Bingley and Darcy.
Darcy believed that Jane wasnt interested to Bingley. At the same time, Darcy found himself
attracted to Elizabeth. He was drawn to Elizabeths wit and expressive eyes, and Caroline Bingleys
jealous criticism of her could do nothing to reduce Darcys admiration.
When Darcy secretly got more interested with Elizabeth, Elizabeth kept despised him.
Instead, she was attracted to George Wickham. Wickham told Elizabeth that his father worked for
Darcys father and that he and Darcy grew up together. Wickham claimed that Darcy disobeyed his
fathers last will and testament to support Wickhams life. Wickhams story made Darcy looked
worse in Elizabeths point of view.

One day, the Bennets were visited by Mr. Bennets cousin, William Collins. He informed the
Bennets that Lady Catherine had instructed him to marry, and he planned to choose a wife from the
Bennet daughters. He chose Elizabeth, but he was shocked and offended when she refused him. He
quickly turned his attention to Elizabeths friend, Charlote Lucas, who wanted to marry for security
rather than love. The two were soon engaged and married.

At the same time, Jane was disappointed to find out that Bingley and his family had
unexpectedly left for London. Caroline Bingley wrote to Jane that they didnt intend to return, and
she predicted a match between Bingley and Darcys sister, Georgiana. Elizabeth was angry for her
sister and suspected that Bingleys sister and Darcy were trying to separate him and Jane.

Elizabeth visited Charlotte at her new home in Rosings, Kent and met Mr. Collins patroness,
who was also Darcys aunt, Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Soon after Elizabeths arrival in Kent, Darcy
visited his aunt with his cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam. Darcy puzzled Elizabeth with his behaviour,
Darcy seemed to seek out her company, but she never said much, remembering what he had done to
her sister. One day he surprisingly proposed Elizabeth, but she refused him because she believed that
Darcy was responsible for Bingleys separation from Jane and for Wickhams misfortune. The next
day, Darcy gave her a letter explaining his part in influencing Bingley to leave Jane and the details
facts of Wickhams situation. After read the letter, Elizabeth realized that she was wrong and
ashamed of herself, who didnt try to find the reason first before judging Darcy.

After returning home for a month, Elizabeth went on a trip with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and
Mrs. Gardiner to Derbyshire County. They visited Darcys estate of Pemberly, and unexpectedly met
him. They were all surprise at how kind and nice he treated them. He introduced Elizabeth to her
sister, and invited her to Pemberley for dinner. Darcy was still in love with Elizabeth, and Elizabeth
began to have similar feelings for him.

While she was still in her trip with the Gardiner, Elizabeth received letter from Jane telling
her that Lydia had elope with Wickham. They left for home immediately. Elizabeth afraid that Lydia
and the Bennets were disgraced and that her newly-discovered love for Darcy was hopeless. When
Lydia was found, surprisingly, she and Wickham marry. When the newly-wed couple came to the
Longburn, Elizabeth discovered that Darcy was the one who arranged the marriage, and saved her
familys reputation.

Bingley returned to Netherfield and soon asked Jane to marry him. Jane, of course, accepted
him. Elizabeth was visited by Lady Catherine de Bourgh, who had heard a rumour that Darcy and
Elizabeth were engaged, which they arent. She demanded her to promise not to accept any proposal
from Darcy, but Elizabeth refused. Lady Catherine told Darcy about her rude and not respectful
toward someone older and in a higher position than her. She scolded him about the rumour of their
engagement. Unexpectedly to Lady Catherine, her story about Elizabeths response to her gave
Darcy hope that Elizabeth had changed her heart. He proposed again and she happily accepted.
