DESCRIPTION

Mapeband accessories are exible, rubber-coated, polyester accessories for use with
various MAPEI liquid or cement applied waterproong membranes before installing
ceramic tile or stone. Sold separately, these convenient, labor-saving accessories
consist of a 3" (7,5 cm) wide cove roll; a 16.5" (42 cm) square drain ashing; and
seamless, pre-formed, ready-to-install inside and outside corners.

WHERE TO USE
A superior alternative to reinforcing fabric or fberglass mesh as used with
waterproong membranes on interior, exterior, residential and commercial
applications before installing ceramic tile or stone
Mapeband accessories are designed for use and compatible with MAPEIs
Mapelastic, Mapelastic AquaDefense, Mapelastic 400, Mapelastic 315,
Mapelastic HPG and Mapelastic Smart waterproong membranes.
Cove roll: Use at intersection of foors and walls or on vertical inside/outside
corners of walls. Also use as a exible waterproong material for expansion
joints.
Drain fashing: Use for sealing around drains in showers, bathrooms, decks and
balconies.
Inside/outside corners: Use in change-of-plane conditions (where horizontal
corners meet wall corners).

PRODUCT APPLICATION
An example of Mapeband waterproong a
corner between the bottom and a side of a bathtub
1. Apply a thin continuous layer of the selected MAPEI waterproong membrane
to an area slightly larger than the Mapeband accessory. Refer to the TDS of the
respective waterproong membrane for application instructions.

2. Place the Mapeband accessory into the fresh MAPEI waterproong product being
used.
3. Apply pressure to the face of the Mapeband accessory with the at side of
atrowel, forcing it into the MAPEI waterproofng product. Work out any air
bubbles and voids underneath.
4. Apply a thin, continuous layer of the MAPEI waterproong product at least 1/32"
(1 mm) in thickness over the top surface of the Mapeband accessory, covering it
completely.
5. Proceed to Completing the Waterproofng section.
EXPANSION AND CONTROL JOINTS
An example of waterproong a structural joint on a terrace
1. See the cross section illustrations below for proper use and installation of
Mapeband cove roll with all MAPEI waterproong products.
2. Position the Mapeband cove roll into the joint so it will form the shape of an
inverted omega shape (

) when complete.
3. Apply a thin continuous layer of the MAPEI waterproong product at least 1/32"
(1 mm) thick without voids to the substrate on both sides of the expansion joint.
Then fold the sides of the Mapeband cove roll into the MAPEI waterproong
product.
4. Using the trowels fat side, apply pressure to the face of Mapeband, forcing it into
the MAPEI waterproofng. Work out all air bubbles and voids beneath Mapeband.
5. Apply a thin continuous layer about 1/32" (1 mm) thick of MAPEI waterproofng
over the face of the Mapeband, covering it completely.
6. Proceed to Completing the Waterproofng section.
COMPLETING THE WATERPROOFING
MAPEIs Reinforcing Fabric or Fiberglass Mesh may be required (or optional) when
waterproofng the main area. Therefore, in order to fnish waterproofng the remaining
area (foors or walls), see instructions on packaging or TDS for the specifc type of
MAPEI waterproong being installed.
