Extra Credit Essay

Let Youself Feel
Why is it important for humans to believe? Not only in one, but many things.
People and experiences had taught to me how important it is to simply believe. Many
think that believing refers simply to religion, but that is not true. I trust that people need
somehow to believe in something, because when you stop believing there is no reason
to look up; to keep living and continue your life. Believing somehow gives you
strength. If you ever ask me what I believe in, Ill simply answer: I believe in love and
never giving up. Some people think its absurd to believe in something you cant see or
even proof it exists. I trust love exists and that it doesnt give up on humans, so why you
should give up on love. Never to give up is a tough thing to do at times, but if you trust
someone exists to take care of you at all times you should find strength in it and a
reason to dont give up.
Id rather not talk about this, but perhaps its time. Why does society believe
love is a union between a man and a woman? I simply believe love shouldnt be judged
upon gender. I state this for the simple reason that love is more complex and profound
than something as simple as being a boy or a girl marrying a girl or a boy accordingly. It
may be possible that if the God that hates gays exists, that Im going to hell. Although
there is also the possibility that it doesnt or that it isnt hateful and Ill be able to be
happy with whichever is the direction that I chose. I dont fall in love with a boy for him
being a boy, I fall in love with the person not the gender, so if the case might be, itll be
a she. If you are asking yourself the answer is yes, it has happened to me before. Falling
in love is not an option, it is one the things that just happens. It has always been hard
to articulate feelings, I guess there are some things that you just cant describe and all
that is left for yourself is to feel.
I guess the situation just angers me, because if it wasnt for the nefarious-close
minded society that I live in; I wouldnt have the necessity to hide. As far as I remember
being different was alright, but I guess it doesnt apply all the time. I give credence to
the fact that the society where I live in is as it is, because its almost entirely catholic.
Dont get me wrong, Im not saying its a bad thing, but it starts to be when same sex
love is defines as sacrilege. My mom sort of knows about my reality and tends to insult
gay couples; she probably doesnt realize how offensive it is. Although it may be tough
at times that is no reason to propound hate against those that do, because then the love
that you are fighting for, will make no sense. As human beings, we need to celebrate
love and spread it, because that is what defines our species: that we are able to feel and
love.
I have felt it in flesh and have been witness of love, and its the most strange and
beautiful invisible feeling I have ever experienced. Perhaps people get stuck in the
norms society has created for us all, and cant see the love behind a same sex couple.
There is no excuse to be intolerable, hateful or offensive. Those that do are just
poisoning their souls, but its not their fault, they are machines following a collective
thought.
I do know that the subject is delicate, but it is also necessary to talk and be
heard. Why hide behind a lie for the simple reason of being accepted by others? If
you do, youll never be able to be happy. Living a lie will just destroy you from the
inside out. You need to let yourself feel, and set aside those ideas placed in your head
by the myopic society. Think for yourself, feel for yourself, love for yourself.
