PART 2.00 – PRODUCTS:

2.01 MATERIALS:

A. Metallic Conduit and Tubing - Conduit shall be rigid, heavy wall, zinc-coated steel. Fittings for
conduit shall be the threaded type. Tubing shall be zinc-coated electric metallic tubing. Fittings
for tubing shall be type approved for installation in concrete and wet locations. Flexible conduit
shall be steel, galvanized inside and outside. Aluminum conduit is not acceptable. Conduits in
direct contact with earth shall be coated with an approved asphaltum paint.

B. Nonmetallic Conduit - Conduit shall be PVC, Schedule 40. Fittings for conduit shall be
non-metallic type approved for installation in concrete and wet locations. Non-metallic conduit
shall be used for all wiring under slabs. An equipment grounding conductor shall be used, sized
in accordance with Table 250-95 of the National Electrical Code.

C. Size - Rigid steel and non-metallic conduit, flexible conduit, and tubing shall be minimum
3/4-inch electrical trade size, and shall be increased in size as required by electrical codes to
accommodate the wiring to be installed.

D. Screw-type connectors are acceptable.

E. Surface Metal Raceway – Surface metal raceway shall be two piece construction conforming to
the requirements of NEC 352B and UL 97V-0 testing procedures. Surface metal raceway shall
have a zinc plated or galvanized steel base for screw mounting and steel cover with white baked
enamel finish. Surface metal raceway shall be Wiremold Co. Series 2000 or similar. Provide all
necessary boxes, fittings, accessories, supports, etc. required for the installation and intended
use shown. Finish shall match that of the raceway.

PART 3.00 – EXECUTION:

3.01 INSTALLATION:

A. Wherever feasible, all raceways shall be concealed above ceilings, in walls or furred spaces.
Exposed conduit shall run parallel or perpendicular to joists in a workmanlike manner. Exposed
raceways used in apartments shall be surface metal raceways. Exposed raceways shall be
installed parallel or perpendicular to walls.

 B. Termination of raceways to outlet boxes, and cabinets shall be accomplished by means of
lock-nuts and an insulating type bushing at each termination. Non-metallic raceways shall be
terminated with suitable listed components.

C. Motor connections shall be accomplished by use of flexible conduit having lengths as short as
possible, not exceeding 6-feet long. Use weathertight Greenfield and fittings.

D. Each entire conduit system shall be installed complete and then tested for obstructions,
omissions, and smooth joints, by fish wire before plastering and each end of conduit shall be
capped with removable caps to prevent moisture, plaster, or other debris from entering same.
Powdered soapstone shall be blown into conduit before drawing wires. Soap, grease, or other
substance shall not be used on wires.

E. All conduit must be thoroughly grounded as required by National Electrical Code. The
Contractor shall protect conduit from injury during building construction.

F. Homeruns for "House" lighting and power branch circuit wiring shall be electric metallic tubing
(EMT). Where raceways are concealed in accessible spaces or in masonry partitions, but not
buried in concrete slabs, EMT will be required. Wiring for lighting and power in accessible
ceilings and in partitions may be types MC or AC as permitted by code.

G. All conduits passing through concrete or masonry walls and partitions shall have the space
between the conduit and the sleeves packed to a depth of not less than 1 inch from one side or
the other with rock wool. Care shall be exercised to compact the rock wool fill, deep enough to
assure approved firestopping without interfering with conduit movement, after rock wool has
been installed around the perimeter of the conduit to insure tightness and prevent migration of
the rock wool.
