Start Comsol Multiphysics

In the model navigator, select the Incompressible Navier-Stokes application mode and click the
Multiphysics button











In the Multiphysics window click the Add button

Select the Convection and Conduction application mode then click the Add button again.

Select OK.








Go to the Options menu and select Constants




Define the following constants




Hold down the shift key and click the Rectangle/Square button




Define the rectangle as shown below




At the top of the screen, select the Zoom Extents button



The rectangle R1 appears

In the Multiphysics menu select Incompressible Navier-Stokes (chns)



In the Physics menu select Subdomain Settings



Under Subdomain selection select 1, enter the following Fluid properties and click OK.


In the Physics menu select Boundary Settings



Select each boundary and enter the corresponding boundary conditions









Select OK.
In the Multiphysics menu select Convection and Conduction (chcc)


In the Physics menu select Subdomain Settings


Under Subdomain selection select 1 and enter the following Thermal properties.

On the Init tab enter the following initial value


Click OK.


In the Physics menu select Boundary Settings


Select each boundary and enter the corresponding boundary conditions





Click OK.

Under the Mesh menu select Free Mesh Parameters



Under the Global tab select Extra fine for the Predefined mesh sizes and select OK.


At the top of the screen click the Initialize Mesh button




Then click the Refine Mesh button twice




At the bottom of the screen you should see



Click the solve button




For a larger image, Go to the Options menu and select Axes/Grid Settings




On the Axis tab

Clear the tick for Axis equal and set y min and y max as shown then Click OK.




Note the maximum velocity

In the Postprocessing menu, select Plot Parameters




Click the Surface tab

Under the Predefined quantities drop down menu, select Convection and Conduction (chcc) then select
Temperature

Click OK.






In the Postprocessing menu, select Cross-Section Plot Parameters




Click the Line/Extrusion tab.

Under the Predefined quantities drop down menu, select Convection and Conduction (chcc) then select
Temperature

On the x-axis data drop down menu select x.

Enter the Cross-section line data as shown below.

Set the Line resolution to 11.

Click Apply then click OK.











On Figure 1, click the Export Current Plot button and save the file as shown below




Open Microsoft Excel 2007 and select the office icon then Open



Select Text Files from the drop down menu.

Browse to the location that you saved the file and click on it then select Open.












Select Fixed width then select Finish.
