Artists:

Pavel Markelov (clarinetist, conductor, composer, arranger) holds a Ph.D.

in performance from the P. Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music in
Moscow. He is the first-prize winner of the Russian National Competition
in clarinet, and obtained a second prize in conducting.

A remarkably versatile musician, Pavel commands a vast repertoire

spanning the classical, folk, contemporary and jazz styles. His ten-year
concert career has taken him to the foremost venues of Western Europe,
Russia, Ukraine, Canada and Asia, in performances with renowned
symphony orchestras and chamber groups, including the legendary Borodin
Quartet. As an arranger, Pavel has enriched the standard clarinet repertoire through his
unique arrangements for clarinet and piano as well as for various ensembles, ranging
from the classical masterpieces to the more daring, innovative transcriptions of works by
American and Latin composers. He can be heard on the CD "Soul of Brazil."

Corey Lyle Gemmell (violinist) is a native of Hamilton, Ontario. He has

distinguished himself as a soloist and chamber musician with
performances in Canada, Germany, the United States and China. Concerto
appearances include performances of the Brahms Violin Concerto, the
Brahms Concerto for Violin and Cello, the Beethoven Violin Concerto
and Mozetich’s Affairs of the Heart for Violin and Orchestra. In the 2007-
2008 season Mr. Gemmell performed the Sibelius and Beethoven Violin
Concertos. He will be performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto with
Symphony Hamilton Orchestra as well as Vaughn Williams’ The Lark
Ascending with the York Symphony Orchestra in 2008-2009. He will be
concertmaster for The Sound of Music at the Princess of Wales opening
in fall 2008. As an active chamber musician Mr. Gemmell performs in numerous festivals
and recitals each season. At present Mr. Gemmell is concertmaster of Symphony
Hamilton Orchestra, the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra and associate
concertmaster of the Toronto Philharmonia. He is also associate concertmaster of the
Esprit Orchestra, and a member of the Mississauga Sinfonietta, toneART Ensemble, Ergo
Ensemble and the Elgin String Quartet. He also performs with the Toronto Symphony
Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra and the National Ballet Orchestra.
John Lettieri (accordionist) is a music educator and department head of arts
at St. Elizabeth Catholic High School, located in Thornhill, Ontario. In his
teaching, he has explored band music, vocal music and new technology
connections. His major instrument of choice is the accordion, however he
does play the piano and other musical instruments. In addition to teaching,
John is a very active musician. In March, 2004, John participated as a
performer in the Canadian Music Week. He has performed at the Beaches
International Jazz Festival held in Downtown Toronto, July 2005. In
August 2006, John was invited to perform in the Ashkenaz festival, held at
the Harbourfront Centre. In August 2007, John performed at the Niagara
International Chamber Festival. In September 2007, John was awarded first
place in the National Roland Digital Accordion festival, and as a result, in
November of the same year, represented Canada at the first International Roland Digital
festival held in Pessaro, Italy. In September 2008, John was invited to Montmagny,
Quebec to demonstrate for Roland Canada at the International Accordion Festival held
there each year. During his interesting career, John has performed music locally with
many talented artists such as Robert Michaels, Nick Cuda, and David Buchbinder, and at
a variety of celebrations and venues both as a soloist and in small ensemble musical
projects. Also, he has recorded with several artists on numerous compact disc recordings,
and has been invited to record music for film and television. John also plays the church
organ at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, Woodbridge, on Sunday mornings for the
past eight years.

Maria Dolnycky was born in Montreal, Quebec, where she graduated with Bachelor and
Master of Music degrees from McGill University in piano performance under the tutelage
of Ljerka Wollmarker-Blume. The recipient of a full scholarship from the Alban Berg
Foundation, she furthered her post-graduate studies in Vienna, Austria with Walter
Fleischmann at the Hochschule für Musik (State Academy of Music). Maria has also
studied under the guidance of André-Sébastien Savoie, Karl Engel, Karl-Ulrich Schnabel
and Janina Fialkowska. She is the winner of the Debut Young Concert Artists Series
competition and her recitals have been broadcast on CBC Radio Music from Montreal
and Radio-Canada Jeunes Artistes.

A dedicated teacher, Maria maintains a teaching studio in Toronto

and is also a member of the Royal Conservatory College of
Examiners. She performs regularly as soloist, chamber musician
and collaborative artist. CD recordings include Poetic Moods - a
collection of seven 20th Century composers from Ukraine, and
Lullaby For a Snowy Night - Holiday music from near and far. A
fascination with the visual arts led her to the launch of Music on
Canvas, a dynamic concert series in Toronto which aims to
present unique programs, occasionally blending live music with
artwork.
Program:

• Carnival of Venice (Jeanjean),

• Suite Italienne from "Pulcinella" (Stravinsky),
• La Danza (Rossini),
• Carnival Dance (Mignone) plus works by Vivaldi, Paganini, Piazzolla
and others.

Listeners will also be able to enjoy a unique journey through selected Italian
and world music performed on accordion.
