Airplane Watching with SWA
Southwest Airlines is con-
stantly seen coming and
going from Manchester-
Boston Regional Airport.
Their brilliant blue and red
Boeing 737 fleet is an inte-
gral part of the hustle and
bustle as commuters travel
to all kinds of destinations.
But did you know that
Southwest maintains a
number of airplanes that are
painted differently? Here
are two shots of the 737
that is painted with the Cali-
fornia state flag motif, a trib-
ute to that state.
Manchester has also been
visited by the Maryland 737,
with a colorful rendition of
the state flag of Maryland.
And recently the Seaworld
737 paid a visit to MHT.
Although most of the SWA
737 fleet is comprised of the
traditional blue/red color
scheme, there are two-tone
tan jets, and many specialty
airplanes like those shown
here. Have you seen oth-
ers? Do you have photos to
share with our readers?
Remember, they must be
Southwest Airline jets, and
they must be a Manchester-
Boston Regional Airport.

Happy airplane
watching!

With a 7:05 PM start, New
Hampshires own Fisher
Cats take on the Portland
Sea Dogs at the Delta Dental

will be a family fun event with
part of the proceeds going to
the museum.
Tickets are $14 each. Our
initial 100 tickets are almost
sold out, but we do have ac-
cess to a few additional
seats.
Call the museum 603-669-

serve a seat or two, or three,
or ten! We want to make this
a very special evening, fill
the stands with aviation peo-
ple and make a good show-
ing, so come along!

Volunteers
Needed
Visitors to the museum rare-
ly appreciate the amount of
efort that goes into what
they are seeing. Volunteers
are the backbone of the mu-
seum. It cant functon
without them. That is why
our volunteers are so im-
portant, and why the muse-
um is always seeking others
to help.
In additon to the docents,
there are many behind-the-
scenes volunteers that keep
the gears lubricated and the
wheels turning. As the old
saying goes, many hands
make light work. The mu-
seum needs lots of volun-
teers in order to ofer the
many programs in which
guests want to be involved.
If youve got a few hours per
week, weve got a place for
you.

tons Wendell Berthelsen at

Can You Help Solve
Historys Mysteries?
The above photograph is believed
to have been taken at Manchester
Airport, possibly prior to 1930. In
the photo are four men, one of
whom is David Lamontagne, for-
mer owner of the Red Arrow Din-
er in Manchester. Another man
pictured was his brother. The
other two men are a mystery.
The airplane in the background
we are fairly certain is a Curts
Robin. Can you identfy these
men?
The other queston well put to
you is much tougher. David
Lamontagne once accepted a ride
in an airplane with a prominent
politcal fgure in New Hampshire
(mayor, governor, what-have-
you). That ride ended in a crash
which both pilot and passenger
survived. Mr. Lamontagne was
very leery of fying afer that.
Can you tell us who that polit-
cian was, plus when and where
the crash occurred?
The photo and the questons are
courtesy of Mr. Lamontagnes
granddaughter, Cynthia Lamon-
tagne. If you have any infor-
maton that would be helpful in
unraveling these riddles, please
send an email to Editor Paul Bag-
ley at pbagley@nhahs.org. The
only reward will be enttlement
to bragging rights for knowing
the right answer.
We welcome questons such as
this from our readers and wed
like to make this column a regu-
lar feature in Blue Skies. If you
have an aged photo, or a piece of
memorabilia that is somehow
connected to the Granite
States aviaton history, let us
publish your queston to see if
we can solve the mystery. Tell
us what you do know and send
along photos of objects, air-
craf, or people and well see
what our readers can do to help
you solve Historys Mysteries!
