Students will organize images and videos effectively. Students will write clear and
grammatically correct descriptions and comments.
PREPARATION
In order to effectively help students create safe accounts for educational
purposes it is important to research privacy policies and tools available. Apps
consistently update and change features making it important to keep up to date with
the usability and safety of apps for use in the classroom.
The teacher should also prepare all teacher accounts so that students can
immediately follow Twitter and Pinterest boards. The teacher account will help link
students to classmates and troubleshooting help.
The class YouTube page should also be created so that students can subscribe
to the class page. Students should also be given the email upload link as soon as
possible so that students have YouTube as an upload option right away. By creating a
class YouTube page it will be easier to monitor YouTube activity and set privacy settings.
It will be important to consistently monitor the page to make sure privacy settings are
being kept up to date. Videos can be set to unlisted or private, if using private settings,
student emails will have to be added to YouTube account.
GUIDED INSTRUCTION STUDENT WORK
Begin by walking students through the
process of creating a Pinterest account.
Pinterest will serve as a portfolio for
student work in this unit. The teacher
should show students how to use
Pinterest on both a mobile and desktop
device.
Teach students how to create and edit
boards. The teacher will follow all
boards, allowing students the flexibility
to edit pins and boards.
Teach students how to find classmates
using email searches.
Students will be uploading original
content and repining from within the
Pinterest site or app so the Pin button
will not be necessary.
Next, help students create a Twitter
account that will also give them access to
Vine.
It is possible that many students will
already have accounts with both
Pinterest and Twitter. Set aside time to
discuss how to create second accounts
and manage them on their devices. One
way to solve this issue is by creating a
second user account on their device for
all school related needs.
Review rules of conduct when posting,
commenting and tagging. Students must
use academic writing when posting or
adding a description. Students must also
be careful to not divulge personal
information publically or post images, or
comments that are abusive or possibly
hurtful to others.
Students will also have the option of not
using their personal device by using
classroom computers. Direct students to
use incognito browsers in order to
Students should be urged to create
separate accounts for academic
purposes in order to prevent issues such
as bullying or personal information being
shared without permission.

Students should decide how may boards
they want to have and how they will
organize information. Students are free
to modify boards as they progress
through the unit.

Students should follow the teacher
accounts for homework. Providing them
links to classmates accounts.

Students will create Twitter accounts for
school use.

Students will need to have a plan for
managing multiple accounts. They
should not mix personal accounts with
academic accounts.

Students may ask questions regarding
appropriate content. (Such as posting a
picture with their face to the internet)

Students should know how to use
incognito or private windows to help
protect their accounts. Students who do
not want to use their own device should
protect their account information. Review
efficient ways of sending and uploading
pictures to accounts so that all students
may have access to classroom
computers.
Finally, provide the email students will
use to upload videos to the classroom
YouTube channel. This will also help
control privacy settings.
have a plan for accessing their content
such as flash drives or iCloud.

Students will not have to create
individual YouTube channels.
STUDENT PRODUCTS
Students should email the teacher the information necessary to find their Pinterest
and Twitter accounts. Students should write one tweet, this could be as simple as
saying hello to the rest of their classmates.
Students must also create one board and a pin. The pin can be an original picture or
an image from the Internet related to Geometry. Students should also begin
following their classmates and the teacher.
