The youth are our future leaders is a phrase that so many people use...but lets be
honest about it...the youth are our NOW!

This church has such a rich history of allowing our young people to step to the forefront of
everything that goes on in our church. Our children and youth lead programs and worship services
throughout the year, serve as Elders and on committees, making them an important part of this
church.
During my last 3 years here, I have continually been blown away by the support that the
children and youth programming receives. Not only do you give financially to make sure that our
youth are able to go to camp and do activities, but you give more richly through your presence in
their lives. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
On Sunday, June 15, you will have the opportunity to support them with your presence once
again! We will celebrate our youth by having our Chi-Rho and CYF lead our entire worship service,
with the help of our younger kids during childrens moment! We will also take a moment to
recognize and celebrate our 2014 graduates!
Our theme for this year is Rock Your Soul and we will be using a variety of music, some you
will know well, some may stretch you just a little bit. No matter what, we promise that you will have
fun and be moved by the Spirit of God!
Thank you again for all of your love and support of our youth program!

Grace and Peace,
Debra

CardsforKennyHarisis
One of our former youth, Kenny Harisis
will be going on a mission trip to East Asia for
a couple months with YWAM, the organization
of which he is a part, and will not have access
to communication. We would like for the
congregation to fill out cards with messages
that Kenny can carry in his backpack. When
he is feeling lonely or needs some
encouragement, he can take out a card and
read a message. You can either write a
message, a bible verse, a quote you like,
etc. Donna Woodbridge will be in the
Narthex on Sunday morning with cards for
you to fill out. She needs them by Tuesday
morning.
Thanks,
Donna W & Harisis Family

promoted by Bread for the World and an
activity in which we've participated for a
number of years, has been set for Sunday, June
29. Ben Stuart, who is coordinating this
activity on behalf of the Outreach Ministry,
will have more details about this activity in the
next few weeks. Look for that information and
plan to participate in the 2014 Offering of
Letters by signing and/or writing letters to
those who represent you in Congress.

FCCWorkDayWithHabitat
ForHumanity
On Saturday, June 28, there
will be a framing day for Habitat for Humanity
at the new La Habra site. We have been given
the opportunity to help with this project. We
are asked to be there by 7:30 A.M. and be
prepared to work until 3:00 P.M. We will be
framing the first floor of two homes. This will
complete the framing of the first floor of seven
new homes.
The first question that is asked by most
is, What do I need to know in order to frame
or help. If you know what end of a hammer to
grab onto, you are qualified. If you do not
know, there will be a 5 second lesson and the
rest of the knowledge will be given on the job
site. There will be supervisors and crew leaders
and Geezers to help and make sure we do the
job properly.
If you are willing to learn and have
some fun, tell Ed Linberg or Craig Wallace by
the 22
nd
of June. The site is located on La Habra
Blvd. across the street from Washington
Middle School. We really need the help.

ChapelonWheelsFundraiser
HealingTouchSpiritual
Workshop
On Sat. July 19 from 9:30 A.M. -12:30
P.M., First Christian Church Whittier will be
hosting an Introduction to Healing Touch
Spiritual Ministry: Using Your Hands to
Heaven
The Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry
program helps participants connect energy
healing with their faith, and with the history of
healing in the Church. This program is rooted
in both the Judeo-Christian perspective and
Eastern healing modalities. We recognize that
all healing comes from God, and that we can
be conduits of Gods healing compassion.
For churches, HTSM is an effective
addition to the work of the Elders, Stephen
Ministries and Pastoral Partners calling on
church members who are hospitalized or
homebound.
This workshop will explore many
healing stories in the Bible, discuss the healing
ministry of Jesus and his Disciples, and the
work of the early Church as it continued Jesus
call to heal and anoint. We will also consider
how science contributes to our understanding
of ancient techniques that come to us from
Eastern traditions. Finally, we introduce a
simple technique for the laying-on-of-hands
that can be used in nearly any setting.
Rev. Louise Sloan Goben is the
instructor. Louise is an ordained minister of
the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and
serves as Associate Minister at First Christian
Church, North Hollywood. She is also a
Certified Practitioner of Healing Touch
Spiritual Ministry and an instructor with the
Institute of Spiritual Healing & Aromatherapy.
There will be a $15 suggested donation for the
event. Register with Rev. Kel Henderson, (714-
465-6991) or with Donna in the church office.

PentecostOffering
ToDate
Last Sunday we received the first gifts for
the 2014 Pentecost Offering. The total received
was $180. Our goal is $750, so we are $670
short of that total going into Pentecost Sunday.
Since Pentecost celebrates the beginning of the
Church as the Holy Spirit empowered Jesus'
disciples to begin preaching the good news of
God's grace through Jesus' death and
resurrection, it is appropriate that the
Pentecost Offering is designated for starting
and supporting new churches representing our
denomination in communities across the U.S.
and Canada. Half of what we receive for the
Pentecost Offering will come back to our
Region to support new congregations here.
Your generous gifts will be appreciated. Please
use the special offering envelope to make your
gift and/or write Pentecost Offering in the
memo line on your check.

PeaceInTheMiddleEast
Wouldn't that be
wonderful? We are partnering
with the Congregational Church
(UCC) of Fullerton to meet with
representatives from Churches for Middle East
Peace on Tuesday, June 25 at 7 P.M. at the
Congregational Church located on Euclid in
Fullerton. Persons from both the Disciples and
the UCC will be updating us on the work that
our churches are doing to promote peace in the
Middle East. One of those persons will be
Nancy Fowler, who many of our congregation
know from past Regional Church events, and
who spoke to our Senior Adults about her
travels to Turkey with a group of Disciples'
church leaders a few years ago. Put this date in
your calendar and plan to attend this
important activity.
