Executive Summary
Introduction:
India was an agriculture-based country up until a few years ago.
Even the economy is based on agriculture. But, since the past few years, the trend
has started to deviate. Agriculture is no longer the dominant sector in the
country. The development of the industrial sector has, in a way, led to the
downfall of the agricultural sector. This might lead to a state of food insecurity in
India in the near future. If we are to survive, we need to produce. Without
production, there remains no question of survival. What is happening in our
country at present is that the agricultural sector, which we feel should still be
dominant, is becoming optional, and the other auxiliary sectors are looked upon
with much higher importance relatively.
Now we have a look as to why the agricultural sector has taken
the back seat since the past few years. In a market, profit is the key to existence.
The major reason for this situation is that even though the retail price for a
commodity is affordable, the producers at the grass root level do not have their
hand on the profit. The only explanation one can think of as to why this occurs is
that something happens in the time duration between when the commodity
reaches the retail market from the original producers.
Secondly, labor is a major contributor to this problem.
Manpower/Human resource is the backbone of any industry without which it
cannot prosper. The reason for the declining importance of the agricultural sector
may be attributed to the unavailability of the same.
Yet another thing of major concern is the lack of knowledge
prevalent among the farmers, especially those who hail from remote areas. They
are totally ignorant about the latest machinery, the latest available seeds et al.
They dont get to upgrade their knowledge on what is the best choice at a given

point of time. They might even lack the very thought that they need to upgrade
their knowledge on the same.
Company Overview and Business Concept:
ACOFAS, as the name suggests, is an Agricultural COnsultation and
FArming Solutions company. We are trying to redefine the concept of agricultural
consultancy. In a general sense, taking the example of a patient consulting a
doctor, the medicines are prescribed after the patient is diagnosed to find out the
exact nature of the disease and the medicines for that disease is prescribed. In
India, agricultural consultancies generally are restricted to giving information on
specific cultivation patterns (like horticulture) and what seeds to grow on them.
What we are trying to achieve is consultation beyond that limit. The ways to
tackle the aforementioned problems will be thoroughly discussed and the farmer
will be free of those barriers even before getting into the actual cultivation part.
The reason for such an idea is the very fact that we are all bound with social
commitment, being members of a society. And therefore, it is our duty, more
than our need to lift up the agricultural sector to paramount importance.
A non-profitable co-operative mentality, even though good, is
practical only up to a certain extent. On the other hand, a complete capitalist
mind will prove to have an ill effect as well. Hence, we try to imbibe the positive
essence of capitalism into a non-profitable co-operative mentality and thus the
formation of our company.

Novelty of the idea:
The very highlight of this concept is that it has never been tried
before and is sure to be a success. As of now, there are quite a few number of
agricultural consulting firms in our country. But they focus only on the specific
methods of cultivation. Taking the example of horticulture, the firms, upon

consultation from those concerned, provide information on the type of seeds that
are to be grown and the likewise. The major problem is beyond that. As we have
stated earlier, the barriers prevalent in the time period between when the
commodity reaches the retail market from the original producer need to be
broken down in order to attain proper development. Our consulting firm aims at
easing down those barriers and thus makes it easier for the original producers at
the grass root level to gain their deserved profit value. Furthermore, this would
result in a better magnitude of human resource which would ultimately result in
better production, and hence development.
When we take the case of farmers who live in remote areas, they are
ignorant about the new varieties of seeds, fertilizers and machinery available in
the current market that will enhance their productivity. They become incapable of
utilizing the available resources in the present market. At times, they even fail to
realize the very need of upgrading their knowledge on the subject and that it
would help them tremendously. And this is where we can step in. The farming
solutions wing of our company will see to it that the farmers are given proper lead
as to how prosperity can be achieved in their cultivation.

Market Strategy and Analysis:
As far as the present market scenario is concerned, the very meaning of
liberalization has changed dramatically. There remains no competency among the
products now. What we aim to achieve is to bring about a healthy competency in
the market, be it agriculture wise or food products wise. In this regard, we try to
enable each and every single cultivator to try and stand on their own and
compete with others for success. That is what liberalization originally meant.
In the initial stage, when we analyze as to what the size of the market
is, it will be limited to a finite number of cultivators. But, indirectly, it cannot be
shortened thus. The whole food and agriculture sector is involved. And the recent
technical advancements in agricultural equipments, soil technology and food

technology will prove to be a helping hand to the cause. The target customers are
chiefly cultivators.
We start this process applying it at the grass root level, i.e. at Panchayat. Then we
move on to a block, a district, a state and finally the whole nation.
