III. Small Group Bible Study
a. What is our goal/purpose?
1. Learn to apply Gods word to their lives. We
want them to develop a hunger, habit of turning
to God and His word for answers.
Romans 12:1-2 so that we will be transformed by
the renewing of our minds.
2. Foster authenticity and open sharing in order to
spur one another on to love and good deeds
(Hebrews 10:23-24).
2

3. All need to feel connected. Small groups allow us
to get connected to other people in a safe, small
environment.

b. Biblical Basis- Exodus Moses instructed to form
Small Groups, Acts: 1
st
Century Church-
Acts 2: 42-47 (KJ V)-
42
And they continued stedfastly
in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in
breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43
And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders
and signs were done by the apostles.
44
And all that believed were together, and had all
things common;
45
And sold their possessions and goods, and parted
them to all men, as every man had need.
46
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the
temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did
eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47
Praising God, and having favour with all the
people. And the Lord added to the church daily such
as should be saved.
Acts 2: 42-47 (NIV)-
42
They devoted themselves to the apostles
teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of
bread and to prayer.
43
Everyone was filled with awe
at the many wonders and signs performed by the
apostles.
44
All the believers were together and had
3

everything in common.
45
They sold property and
possessions to give to anyone who had need.
46
Every
day they continued to meet together in the temple
courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate
together with glad and sincere hearts, 47

praising
God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the
Lord added to their number daily those who were
being saved.

Acts 5:42 (NIV)-
42
Day after day, in the temple courts and from house
to house, they never stopped teaching and
proclaiming the good news that J esus is the Messiah.

Jesus started a Small Group Bible Study-
Small Groups are a key component to loving and
living like Jesus. Jesus formed a small group of 12
men. He loved them and taught them to love and
care for one another. He taught them and he gave
them opportunities to teach one another. He sent
them out in small groups to heal the sick, to teach,
and to do His work. Jesus' plan for reaching the
world with the Gospel started by forming a small
group!

Matthew 4:18-22(KJV)-
18
And J esus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two
brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his
brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were
fishers.
19
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I
will make you fishers of men.
20
And they straightway
left their nets, and followed him.
21
And going on
from thence, he saw other two brethren, J ames the
son of Zebedee, and J ohn his brother, in a ship with
Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he
called them.
22
And they immediately left the ship and
their father, and followed him.

Matthew 18:20(KJV)
20
For where two or three are
gathered together in my name, there am I in the
midst of them.
