The Monster In the Maze

MARTINA plays the violin. Stands up: First there was Chaos. From Chaos sprang Earth and
Heaven.
CHOIR (EUGENIA, NACHA AND PRISCILA)
When the earth was still flat,
And the clouds made of fire,
And mountains stretched up to the sky,
Sometimes higher,
Folks roamed the earth
Like big rolling kegs.
It was before the origin of love.

MARTINA: From them came the race of Titans. Zeus defeated them and took
power.
RAMIRO: Im Zeus, God of Gods. Ill divide up the world among my brothers.
Heaven is mine! (Sits on the throne)
MARTINA: To Hades went the realms of the dead.
BRIAN: Im Hades, God of the dead. I live in the depths of the universe. A ferocious
dog watches over my door. (Sits on the throne)
MARTINA: The seas and oceans went to mighty Poseidon.
JULIETA: Im Poseidon. With all my powers I take care of the waters and make the
tides come and go. (Sits on the throne)

They had two sets of arms.
They had two sets of legs.
They had two faces peering
Out of one giant head
So they could watch all around them
As they talked; while they read.
And they never knew nothing of love.

(MARTINA AND THE CHOIR LEAVE THE STAGE)
(ENTERS THEO)
THEO: The island of Crete in ancient times. In the great hall King Minos and his
Queen are seated on their thrones. (ENTER FACUNDO AND STEFFI) Theseus
bows before them. (ENTER FAUSTO AND BOWS)
(THEO LEAVES THE STAGE)
FACUNDO: Well, young man.
FAUSTO: Im Theseus, son of the King of Athens.
FACUNDO: I know your father well. I beat him in a war, hahaha! What are you here
for?
FAUSTO: I want my peoples freedom. Stop your cruelty!
STEFFI: You should listen to him, Minos.
FACUNDO: Dont be concerned with this, my queen.
FAUSTO: Ill find a way to stop you!
FACUNDO: Youre just a little man. I have all the power! Guards!
(VALENTINO, FRANCISCO AND SANTIAGO COME IN)
GUARDS: Yes, my lord?
FACUNDO: Take this man to the maze!
GUARDS: To the maze? Are you sure?
FACUNDO: Do it!
(THE GUARDS TAKE FAUSTO AWAY)
STEFFI: Oh, king! You should reconsider! Please!
FACUNDO: Ive won the war so people must do as I say.
STEFFI: Youre so cruel!
(STEFFI LEAVES THE STAGE IN ANGER, FACUNDO FOLLOWS HER)
JULIN AND JUANI: What a cruel king we have! What are we going to do? Poor
people of Crete! (THEY LEAVE THE STAGE)
(THEO AND MARA JESS ENTER THE STAGE): The hallway and entrance to
the maze. The Guards lead Theseus along. (THEY LEAVE THE STAGE)
IAN: Whats the maze?
GUARDS: Oh, its a terrible place! A terrible place!
IAN: What happens to the people there?
GUARDS: They never come out!
IAN: Why?
GUARDS: Theres a monster! A horrible beast!
IAN: Oh, thats awful!
GUARDS: Awful, awful, awful (GUARDS LEAVE THE STAGE)
IAN: What am I going to do?
(SOFI ENTERS THE STAGE)
SOFI: Theseus! Over here!
IAN: Who are you?
SOFI: Im Ariadne, King Minos daughter. Im here to help you.
IAN: But you dont know me.
SOFI: No, but Im tired of my father. Hes so bad to all people!
IAN: Theres a monster in the maze.
SOFI: Yes, so I brought you a sword to kill it. (SHE GIVES HIM THE SWORD)
IAN: What am I going to do if I get lost in the maze?
SOFI: Here. Use this string. Mark your way in the maze so you can come back.
IAN: Great! Thank you!
SOFI: Good luck!
(ENTER JULIN AND JUANI): We hope Theseus is lucky today! Hes our only
hope! Hes our hero! (LEAVE THE STAGE)
(MARA JESS ENTERS THE STAGE): In the maze Theseus comes and goes
several times. Its so difficult to find the way! But he must find the monster and kill it!
So the people of Crete can be finally free! (LEAVES THE STAGE)
TIAGO: This maze is so complicated! Luckily Ive got this string! But I havent seen
the monster yet. (SOUND OF MONSTER) Whats that noise?
(MONSTER ENTERS THE STAGE: DOLO, AGUS AND VALENTN): Who dares to
come into my home?!!!
TIAGO: Oh, its true! Its a monster!
MONSTER: To me, you are the monster!
TIAGO: My name is Theseus, Prince of Athens.
MONSTER: Ill enjoy eating a prince! Hahahaha!
TIAGO: No, you wont! (TIAGO PULLS OUT THE SWORD AND RUNS AGAINST
THE MONSTER.THE MONSTER FALLS DEAD ON THE FLOOR.)
(THEO AND MARA JESS COME IN): And so, Theseus killed the monster and
used Ariadnes string to go back home. The people of Crete were free at last!
(ALL THE STUDENTS ENTER THE STAGE TO SING)
