Lesson Idea
Students will acknowledge the main character of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, they will determine
five events that highlight the main characters development, they will select five different images that
illustrate these events, and they will explain their reasoning for selecting each image. Students will then
create a table in MS Word in which they can organize this information. Necessary student materials
include the following:

Objective
Identify main character in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer; describe main characters development
throughout the story using five different images and the rationale behind choosing each picture.
Problem Statement
As an aspiring artist, youve been commissioned to create a painting that depicts Mark Twains The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and your patron would like to see the most crucial scenes to the main
characters development represented in this painting. You must first select five images on which you
will base your work and discuss them with the client. Create a table in which you highlight five major
events for the main character, illustrate each event with an image to show the client, and describe your
reasoning for selecting the images.

Students success will be graded on proper grammar and spelling, correct identification of the main
character, correct identification of five separate events in the novel, and the proper utilization and
number (five) of images to illustrate each event. Three levels of quality will be below proficiency,
proficient, and advanced.
