Things to do before you leave your home country: 1. Contact with the Division of International Students as early as possible as and no later than Septmeber 4, 2013. a. Reconfirm your on-campus dormitory. b. Schedule the reception for your arrival at Kaohsiung International Airport (IATA Airport Code is KHH). You should arrive at Kaohsiung, Taiwan before September 4, 2013. Student will have to pay the transportation fee from airport to NPUST, so please prepare NT dollars, or arrive the airport early. c. Taxi fee from Kaohsiung Airport or Kaohsiung High Speed Train Station to NPUST: about 1,000NT/about 1 hour Website of High Speed Train Station: http://www.thsrc.com.tw Website of Kaohsiung Airport: http://www.kia.gov.tw d. Transportation from Taoyuan Airport: Take shuttle bus from Taoyuan Airport to Taoyuan High Speed Train Station, or take bus to Pingtung. 2. Complete your health exam according to the description in the application forms.
2/3 3. Apply authentication for the diploma of your highest degree. It can be applied through the Taiwan Embassy or equivalent agent in your country. If your diploma and transcript were given by university in Taiwan, they dont have to be authenticated by embassy. But the original diploma and transcript are needed, and photocopies are not accepted. 4. Apply your Foreign Student (FS) VISA or Resident VISA from the Taiwan Embassy or equivalent agent in your country. 5. Gather important addresses, records, and phone and fax numbers from home and bring them with you in case of an emergency. 24-hour service for foreigners online: 0800-024-111(in Taiwan) Website-Information for foreigners in Taiwan: http://iff.immigration.gov.tw 6. When you enter Taiwan, the medical and accident insurance for 6 months after entry is required. After 6 months, the students need to join the National Insurance. The monthly insurance fee will be about 749NT. We will help you to purchase these insurances. 7. Medical and injury insurance policies, which you purchased in foreign countries, covering a valid period of no less than 6 months starting from the day when you enter Taiwan. The foregoing insurance policies purchased in foreign countries must be authenticated by a Taiwan overseas representative office. 8. All fresher needs to join the health examination after registration. The fee will be about 1,300NT. Examination time and day: (1) From 12pm to 7pm, Thursday and Friday, on 12 September and 13 September 2012 (2) From 9am to 4pm, Saturday, on 14 September 2012 9. Returning students must attach one copy of Taiwan national health insurance card. 10. Registration online: The fresher needs to register online and upload your photo from August 10 to August 20. Website: http://140.127.4.133/stubasic. Your student ID number and password are needed when you login. Please check our website for your student ID number on August 10. 11. Courses Registration online: http://course.npust.edu.tw/course Registration duration: August 20 to August 22 12. Alliance of Residential Card (ARC) : International students need to apply to ARC. The fee: 1,000NT 13. If the fresher takes the visitor visa, he/she needs to take health examination in National hospital (Fee: about 2,500NT) and apply to resident visa (Fee: 3,000NT) in Kaohsiung. Then take the resident visa to apply ARC (Fee: 1,000NT).

Documents that you will have to bring to Taiwan: 1. Original acceptance letter issued by NPUST. 2. Original diploma of your highest degree. 3. At least one original authentication of diploma of your highest degree. 4. Passport with Foreign Student (FS) VISA or Resident VISA. 5. Official health examination report (the one when you apply to visa). 6. 4 copies of 3.8 x 2.9cm color photos 7. 4 copies of 4.5 x 3.5cm color photos (For ARC and national health insurance) (1) With a glossy finish and a white background (2) Taken within the past year. (3) With an image of the head between 3.2cm to 3.6cm sized from the top of the head to the chin. (4) Without wearing a hat or color glasses. (5) With clear, uncovered and identifiable facial features, and should not be modified or composed. 8. An orientation for the foreign students will be held on the first week of school semester. More details on living, health care, health insurance, traffic, banking, residential VISA, cultural and academic issues will be explained during the orientation. Date of Orientation: September 4 First day of 1 st semester of academic year 102(2013): September 9 9. Medical and injury insurance policies or one copy of Taiwan national health insurance card. 10. All new students need to stay in our dormitory in campus for international students. The date to check in: September 3 (Due to the maintenance of the dormitory building, there will be no room for students who coming before September 2. You might need to stay in the hotel and move in on September 3.) 11.
