LAKEWOOD The fear was traffic Armageddon. The result?

Meh.
In a place where traffic jams occur as regularly as the sun sets,
the call by some of the townships religious leaders for a two-morn-
ing boycott of school buses appears to have been taken seriously by
parents, township and county officials and various community
leaders on Wednesday.
Parents carpooled. Police officers were stationed at key inter-
sections. Ambulances were parked throughout town at strategic lo-
cations.
So even though it was hard to spot a school bus with a child sit-
ting inside, many observers said Wednesday mornings traffic was
not dramatically worse than any other weekday commute in Lake-
wood.
In some ways, we were a victim of our own success, said Rabbi
Moshe Zev Weisberg, one of the organizers. The question is how
sustainable this would be.
Weisberg and other community leaders called for the bus boy-
cott as a drill for what would happen in September should nearly
$4 million in courtesy busing end for students in grades four to 12
who live within 2.5 miles of their schools.
Lakewood eliminated the busing from the $151 million budget
for the 2014-15 school year as the district struggles to find the cash
to keep up with an exploding student population, particularly in

Heidi Markovitz: It usually takes
me 15 minutes to get to my destina-
tion, today took me 19 minutes! The
drill has demonstrated that par-
ents CAN drive their kids to school
without incidents.
Michael Edmonds: Hope Jackson
noticed, this is what Cross will look
like everyday next year. If they
approve the 400 student school it
gets worse. Wake up Jackson
Anthony Samuels: Rt 9 had its
usual congestion, nothing worse ... I
think this backfired and shows there
is actually LESS traffic with all the
buses not running.
Anita Doyle: I heard that school
buses were pretty empty. So, is it
possible that children were just kept
home today (so that they didnt
have to be forced to suffer sitting
with a carload of screaming kids in
gridlock for umpteen hours)?

AHolmdel doctor who claimed he was drugged and
ripped off at a New York City strip club claimed vindi-
cation Wednesday after four women were arrested and
charged with just that.
Arepresentative of Dr. Zyad K. Younan is pointing to
the arrests this week of four strippers, who are accused
of spiking the drinks of wealthy men and then running
up big tabs while their victims were too wasted to stop
them, as proof that he was taken advantage of.
New York tabloids broke the story in April of the
Bayshore Community Hospital cardiologist who was
being sued by Scores New York for racking up $135,000
in unpaid bills. According to the lawsuit, Younan disput-
ed the charges by saying he was drugged by plaintiffs
employees and thus did not authorize the charges a
claim that Scores says is contradicted by security video
showing him freely showing up there on four separate
occasions.

House of Representatives Majority Leader Eric
Cantors stunning primary loss in Virginia shows there
may be more room to the right of Gov. Chris Christie
and moderate Republicans than previously thought.
Cantor lost Tuesday to David Brat, a Tea Party-
backed economics professor, in the GOP primary in
Virginias 7th Congressional District.
The result is a taste of what awaits Christie and Jeb
Bush, should they pursue the partys 2016 presidential
nomination, said Barbara Gonzalez, head of the Bay-
shore Tea Party Group.
Gonzalez called Christie and Bush RINOs, or Re-
publicans in Name Only.
What happened in Virginia shows that Chris Chris-
tie is going to encounter a real huge problem if he runs
for president, Gonzalez said. Hes a fence-sitter.
There should be no question about him vetoing the bill
further restricting the permitted of ammunition maga-
zines. But hes sitting on the fence. Just the fact that he
has to think, it shows hes not committed to issues that
many people in our country care deeply about.
