The way we use solar impacts on the

planet we share
By:Jess Wong
Where does solar energy come from?
Solar energy comes from the suns light or suns heat. There is
a huge amount of hydrogen in the sun, these atoms stick
together and fuse into a helium atom. This energy is then
radiated out from the suns core and moves across the solar
system. This series of steps are called the proton-proton (P-P)
chain.
How is it transformed into solar energy
There are 2 types of solar panels, photovoltaic panels and thermal solar
panels. The light from the sun contains energy. When the light hits certain
material, the energy turns into an electric current. A photovoltaic cell is
essentially a thin layer of semiconductor , like silicon covered in glass and
plastic. A semiconductor is any substance through which an electric current
can pass with some effort. When sunlight hits the cells, it knocks electrons
loose from their actions as the electrons through the cell, they generate
energy like heat and electricity.
Is solar energy renewable?
Yes it is!!! It is definitely a renewable source of energy
because the sun comes out almost everyday, the sun
will be hear for a long long time. The sun will keep
giving us energy, solar energy is renewable, you will
keep recieving the suns energy.
positive and negative impacts of solar
energy
positive negative
Solar energy is renewable Solar panels are expensive
The process doesnt pollute the
environment or produce carbon
dioxide
Solar cells do not work well in warm
places
Once the solar panels are installed,
power is free
When there is no sun, solar panels
dont work
In sunny climate, you can get
enough power to run a 100W light
bulb from just 1 square of solar
panel
An average solar cell is only 15% to
20% efficent
It does not damage the Earth or the
atmosphere
Produces less than 1 of 10 in 10% of
global energy produced
reduces pollution Solar panels takes up a lot of space
Should we continue using solar?
I strongly believe that we should continue using solar energy, because
solar energy is now poised to play a larger role in the future thanks to
new developments that could result in over costs and improved
efficiently. In fact, the solar PV industry aims to provide half of all new
U.S electricity generation by 2025 . Solar energy is a fabulous source
of energy, However, making the solar pannels tinier and more efficent
would make the future of of solar energy better.
