How Competitive is Jamaica-Connectivity & Redundancy

Competition in Jamaica
Redundancy
Most operators utilizing other networks for total customer redundancy
Most operators share same customer base
Bundled fiber / wireless solutions or fiber / fiber solutions used as primary
redundancy topology. Pricing for this bundle is not typically discounted as a
redundant service. Used by Larger Enterprises
Frame Relay being replaced by Metro Ethernet and/or Wireless/Fiber options
Fixed wireless for redundancy gaining momentum due to improvements in
latency and capacity. Licensed spectrum a must when considering this option
for business applications
Cable HFC / Wired DSL also used as a redundancy application service for SMB
applications
3G / 4G used as low priority remote rural redundancy for internet applications in
home or SOHO use.
Bandwidth on Demand becoming popular with some business clients and has
many viable uses for redundancy or emergency purposes
Managed services on the rise for these redundancy solutions

How Can Alternate Operators Exploit Growth in JA

Alternate Operators Seeking Growth in Jamaica - Invest or Partner:
INVESTMENT
Pursue Investment in Jamaica that brings additional undersea fiber connecting
Jamaica to the USA and Caribbean initially. Interconnect all licensed operators.
Most operators will participate in such capacity when available
Pursue Investments to facilitate 10/100GB capacity across Jamaica &
interconnect all licensed local loop operators. A separate domestic fiber
backbone serving six (6) major towns in Jamaica will be utilized by most existing
operators.

OPERATOR PARTNER RELATIONS
Develop partner network relationships with local operators to pursue positive
private data growth dynamics occurring in the public sector (Government)
Develop partner network relationships with local operators to receive managed
service solutions for their multi-national customers in Jamaica and Caribbean.
Spend time evaluating operators whom focus allot of attention on solutions
(data/video/voice) that are secured by managed security. IP has changed our
world and IP-VPNs, CLOUD VPNs, VOICE in the CLOUD, and the access to
reliable and safe data is key to driving DATA MOBILITY growth in Jamaica and
around the world.
Understand which operators are becoming more IT centric. These operators will
provide experience and savvy smart hands on the ground for your customers
and meet the SLA requirements you seek. The line between telecom and IT is
slowly coming together .
