Static Structural Analysis of Connecting Rod by Finite

Element Analysis
Abstract
The connecting rod is an integral part of an IC
engine. In this work different stress analysis was
done by FEM on connecting rod. In order to calculate
stress in connecting rod, it was modeled, meshed and
loaded in A!"!, software.

INTRODUCTION
Connecting rod is an integral component of internal
combustion engine and it is classified under
functional component. It acts as a linkage between
piston and crank shaft. The main function of
connecting rod is to transmit the translational motion
of piston to rotational motion of crank shaft. The
function of the connecting rod also in#ol#es
transmitting the thrust of the piston to the connecting
rod. Connecting rod has three main $ones. The piston
pin end, the center shank and the big end. The piston
pin end is the small end, the crank end is the big end
and the center shank is of I cross section. Connecting
rod is a pin %ointed strut in which more weight is
concentrated towards the big end. &'(
OBECTI!E
In this paper, only the linear static structural analysis
of the connecting rod was performed. The aim of the
study is to determine the )on Misses stresses, !hear
stresses, Total *eformation.

CONC#USIONS
Through the simulation of the rod of steel, the
following conclusions are drawn;
The connecting rod is safe. There is no ma%or
deformation at '.7 M.a pressure.
