b) A single acting reciprocating pump has piston diameter of 0.15 m and stroke
length of 0.3 m. It discharges 300 lit/min of water at 60 rpm. The suction and
deliver heads are 5 m and 15 m respectively. Find the theoretical discharge,
coefficient of discharge and percentage slip of the pump. Also determine the

b) The ratio of lengths of a submarine and its model is 30:1. The speed of the
submarine (prototype) is 10 m/s. The model is to be tested in a wind tunnel.
Find the speed of air in the wind tunnel. Also determine the ratio of drag
(resistance) between the model and its proto-type. Take the value of kinematic
viscosities of sea water and air as 0.012 Stoke and 0.016 Stoke respectively.
The density of sea water and air is given as 1030 kg/m
