Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have. Security for their people has been
the main goal of most of the countries in the world. However, one of the most important assets of
security is health. Our duty as the CAMH is to preserve that health in the Arab world from every
danger, and there are plenty of them. With the widespread international interaction nowadays,
boosted by globalization, trans-border infectious diseases have become a real issue all around the
world, including the Kingdom of Morocco with the rate of emigration increasing and the high
amount of external trade we cannot neglect the present issue. But Morocco did not stand still
with the government striving to achieve a developed health care system accessible to all.
The health and welfare of citizens represent an investment for the community. It must be
directed to the most effective solutions so said the Moroccan minister of health Pr El Houssaine
Louardi shortly after his nomination. The Moroccan government has been trying actively to find
those solutions with many actions nationally speaking; with the national health conferences
being held nearly every year and advanced public health services at the disposal of all the
citizens, plus the interaction between the public and private sectors to achieve a better health
care. Moreover Morocco has strengthened its capabilities to cure by implementing new advanced
techniques especially during the 2010-2011 Northern Hemisphere influenza season. And finally,
Morocco plans to arm itself with the new high-tech city of hospitals in the project of the Eco-city
of Zenata. All those factors led to the excellent state of the Moroccan health in many of the
worldwide threatening diseases.
Broadly speaking, Morocco has not been inactive. Constant work with the CDC led to the
amelioration of the Moroccan health system drastically with the CDC presenting to the
Moroccan government the opportunity to reach new limits in the health department by helping
the government, through its Division of Public Health Systems and Workforce Development
(DPHSWD) to improve the Moroccan public health capacities. Moreover, Morocco hosted the
Mass Gathering Workshop in 2011 which gave the Arab society a big push in its race to obtain
health security.
Actions to tackle the issue should be taken rapidly with the increase of the regulations on trans-
border trading and human movement while sharing all the medical information available to any
country in a universal medical bloc frankly and also provide the necessary help financially and
non financially to the developing and poor countries so they are able to battle all the diseases.
And finally, propose a clear plan of action in case of a health disaster.
