Guadalupe Arizpe De La Vega isnt a celebrity,
but CNN named her one of their heroes in 2010.
The 74-year-old De La Vega started Hospital de la
Familia in Jurez, Mexico more than 30 years ago.
The hospital helps citizens of Jurez who live in
poverty. It treats about 900 patients each day,
with or without payment. De La Vega wanted to
improve the lives of poor women and children. Her
aim is to give the poorest people the best health
care. They need it and deserve it, says De La Vega.
Although the hospital charges the patients that can
aford it, the hospital doesnt make a proft.
It is supported by a nonprofit organization called
FEMAP-SADEC, also founded by De La Vega.
Hospital de la Familia is a sponsor of 7 hospitals and 32
FEMAP-SADEC clinics.
In 2010 it delivered its 100,000
th
baby. I just love it. Its my
life, its my passion. I get the privilege of experiencing the
magic moment of change from sickness to health; from
darkness to light, De La Vega says.

Hi Agusto,
After the pyramids, I took my friends to Xochimilco. They had a great time there, too. I wish you
could have joined us.
Take care,
I took them to see the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon in Teotihuacan. They were very impressed.
They thought the place was wonderful.
Write and tell me what you did this summer. I want to know all the details.
How have you been? I havent heard from you in a while. I have been busy with some visitors from
the United States.
